About Cindy Murphy

Together Cindy and Mark manage the details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 31 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from the federal government in the DC area in 1997. Cindy is a mother and published freelance writer. Bob is an avid reader, a history and plane buff, and a man of wit and charm. Mark is a super gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub!

Why Cindy Murphy chose Central Oregon

We love the shop, raising chickens for fresh eggs, garden beds, the sunlit atrium, vegetation in the yard, the wildlife, colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the incredible view!! We live in this neighborhood as well only 4 houses down the hill from the rental. We know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

What makes this house unique

We have the unique benefits of a majestic vista, out the back door hiking, and our open rural space. There is paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest. Again we remind people that this is a no smoking neighborhood and we monitor this extremely closely due the danger of fire. If you are tempted to smoke, please consider another property. We also have two resident shop cats who are our buddies and keep the area clean of ruralistic vermin. They are comfortable and totally at home in their h shop, but do not come into the rental house.

Exceptional views!

Owner's Response: We hear comments on these views all the time and it really is spectacular! From Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson to the craggy cliffs of Smith Rock State Park, it presents a breathtaking landscape laid out at your feet. Summer is in full swing and the roses are absolutely loaded this year. It seems that all the moisture we had this winter made them particularly happy! We are looking forward to all of our guests who will be visiting this year as well as the crazy solar eclipse right around the corner in August. Book some time with us in 2017 high on the hill overlooking the rural fields of Terrebonne!

Great for climbers!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here with a bunch of climber friends, and it's great! The location close to Smith Rock can't be beat - and you even have a view of it, including Monkey Face, from the living room. (OK, you need to use the telescope, included, to really see the monkey.) The large room with futons is excellent for a bunch of climbing bums to stay in and sort gear. :-) Nice kitchen and rear patio with grill are great for groups, too.

We have been here before and will be back again!

Owner's Response: We do live in such an interesting and fun area and part of what makes it that way is meeting all the climbers that come through. We have return visitors every year and we love welcoming them back. We are so grateful we will be seeing these folks back our way in the future. Spring is in full swing and the wildflowers are starting to pop! Life is returning to the countryside of Terrebonne after the long crazy winter we had. Visit us soon in the high desert of Central Oregon!

Big Win Super Bowl Weekend (and I'm not referring to the game)!

  • 5 of 5

Regardless of the super bowl results this Vacation Rental was a BIG Win for me and my family!!! What a spectacular vacation home. This place has it all and then some. We traveled from Meridian and met our son and his family for a family get together. I brought a cooler full of food and never had to leave the house once because the vacation rental was equipped with everything I needed to prepare meals. The open floor plan made visiting and entertaining so enjoyable. The views out the front bay window were absolutely fantastic and you could see for miles, and miles. I would Love to visit in the fall when all the colors are changing. Between all the board games, the snow hill for sleading, the old vintage pink record player with plenty of vynial to choose from, and gathering real chicken eggs from the coop each morning the grandkids never had an opportunity to get bored. We had a lot of fun and created many fun memories that will last forever. I highly recommend this vacation rental for any occasion.

Owner's Response: Yep....TV is really not our thing and this is the first winter we actually put some connections in the rental for the "sports season", football, and basketball specifically. It has been a big hit and this year marked our first reservation ever just based on the Super Bowl. If you are into that, then it is an awesome venue....if you are not.....still great views, open spaces.and good vibes. The Good Earth is a spectacular spot for watching.....or just a cozy home base for exploring the great outdoors! The snow is melting and climbing season is upon us!!! Onward 2017!

Winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

We came over with our boys and another family for a winter getaway. We had zero disappointments. The house was perfect, we had plenty of snow to play in and the view was amazing as always. They lit the hot tub every night and the sky is just amazing at night. There are a million stars and sitting in the hot tub star gazing is the best. We love using the house as a base camp to head back to sister's or to Bend and Redmond. The hospitality is always above and beyond and we look forward to coming back many more times.

Owner's Response: Even though this has been a crazy winter for the books, it has been amazingly beautiful too! Sledding, skiing, ice skating and star gazing are particularly breathtaking this year. As I write this tonight more snow is falling and COZY is the buzz word at the Good Earth!! Valentines Day is just around the corner and if you and your sweetie are looking for something a couple nights and star gaze from the wood fired hot tub overlooking the snowy fields of Terrebonne! Cheers!

Great place, better people

  • 5 of 5

I took my wrestling to the Oregon Wrestling Classic and we stayed here. The house was great. Lots of room and real comfortable. The views out the window are incredible. Mark and Cindy are terrific hosts. Our bus couldn't make it up the hill because of the snow so Mark picked us up when we got back and took us down the hill in the morning. During the stay Mark was checking in to see how wrestling went and to make sure we had all we needed at the house. I would recommend this place to anyone! The house is nice, views great, location is perfect, and the people are incredible. It's a must visit.

Owner's Response: We have been getting more teams stay with us every year, basketball, volleyball, and wrestling so far! Tournament season in the winter, and day camps in the summer. The coaches and their teams seem to really enjoy the accommodations and the close location to their event destination. This year the snow was an unusual challenge, but Mark made sure not only to shuttle everyone through the snow up and down the hill, but also pointed out the Space Station moving across the dark skies of Central Oregon. We receive regular text alerts when the station is visible in our area and where to look for it flickering among the stars. Waiting for the school bus at 6:30 am in the snowy darkness instantly became an on location mini space class! There are always unexpected extras at The Good Earth! We are deep into winter these days, but rest assured that we keep the roads clear and the fire crackling in the cedar wood hot tub for all of our guests. Ding text just in......Space Station visible again tonight!

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at The Good Earth over the New Year's weekend. We had a wedding to go to in Redmond on New Year's Eve and the location of The Good Earth was perfect distance-wise. Everything was fantastic and exceeded our expectations. The house is spacious, clean, comfortable and inviting. And the view is incredible. Wine on the counter upon our arrival was an extra-special touch! Also, when it came time to check out, we noticed that the owners had removed snow from our car and had also cleared a path from the front door to our car. Thank you so much Mark and Cindy! We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: The high desert is having a "real" winter this year and we certainly try to manage the results of snowy weather for our guests. Mark is the quiet hero with his 4-wheeler and blade. As the seasons change so do our chores, but Central Oregon is beautiful in winter, summer, spring or fall and that is why we love it here! It was a gorgeous holiday season at The Good Earth and now we turn to a new year ahead. Check us out for a few days of skiing, snowshoeing, or gliding on local ice rinks nearby. Cheers and blessings for 2017! Cindy and Mark

Welcome to The Good Earth! Our house is a charming super clean vacation rental with breathtaking views, located on the southern edge of Terrebonne Oregon. Our comfortable smoke free property offers all that you will need to relax and enjoy the beauty of the classic high desert. Just a note though.....if you are a smoker, PLEASE...seriously consider another property. Our entire neighborhood is non smoking due to the extreme fire danger that comes with the landscape here. Respect for our neighborhood and properties is important and we monitor this very closely. You are welcome in our home but if there is ANY sign of smoking in the area we will ask you to leave with no refund and extra charges. With that being said....expect to enjoy Mt. Hood Roasters coffee and fresh eggs from our chicken 'girls' housed on the property. We offer a three bedroom, two bath home with a very cool atrium full of plants. We are located on 2 acres high above our unique local town, and just minutes away from all types of outdoor recreation activities. 4 miles south on Hwy. 97 is Redmond with a great local vibe that includes lively bars, breweries, restaurants, and spot on coffee houses. 23 miles south is Bend, a mecca in the outdoor and beer scene, and 4.5 miles to the northeast Smith Rock State Park awaits your hiking boots to hit the trails beneath golden hued climbing walls. A complementary day use pass for all local Oregon State Parks is available for use during your stay. We are 40 minutes from the unique little community of Sisters at the base of the Cascades. Sisters is the home of towering pines, cool little boutiques, a killer quilt show, popular rodeo and a music filled fall folk festival. This is also the gateway to the magic that is the timeless Metolius River. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and boating are all within 15 minutes to an hour, as well as live theater, great wines, and over the top brewers. If you want to stay within a mile of home, Terrebonne has some awesome local spots that we visit often. Just ask us for our very local recommendations!! There are drop dead sunsets and soaking in the hot tub under brilliant stars. Come visit us and you will understand why we live here!
