2 Bed 2 Bath W/high Ceilings + Natural Daylight, Huge Back Deck, Dogs Welcome
About Dustin W.
I am from O-HHI-O and have been coming down since 1999. My best friends parents own a place down near South Beach and I have been down every Memorial Day for the past 12 years. I went to Ohio University and used to come down for Memorial Day weekends to both party and find a job for the summer. I lived in Shipyard one summer and worked at both Catch 22 (which is still there and delicious- Go tell Brian and Daisy Dustin sent you) and delivered Pizza's late night at Mojo Pie. (now gone, RIP) I sell phone systems for a living up in Lexington KY with my wife who is a Nurse at UK Hospital. Both my wife and two young daughters are hooked on Sea Pines thanks to daddy.
Dustin W. purchased this House in 2012
Why Dustin W. chose Sea Pines
Owning a place in Sea Pines has been a life goal for me. Our Memorial Day tradition at our friends place toward South Beach made buying a place in Sea Pines the only option. We honestly didn't even look at any other plantations. What's better than that, is that, we didn't even step foot inside of this place prior to putting in an offer. Yep- It was purchased completely site unseen. To be fair, I actually knew the Greenwood Forest area of Sea Pines extremely well. I dated a girl that college summer who rented a house with her friends on Wildwood Ct, one street over. Spending time over there and at the neighborhood pool gave me a good idea of what I was getting into. The truth is I would have fallen in love with the home had I seen it and paid too much. This took the emotion out of it. It was completely worth it. I stepped foot into the house the day I closed on October 12th. It exceeded my expectations. It was a very Zen couple of days down there. I was living in a house I had purchase site unseen, in an area I had always dreamed of.
What makes this House unique
The way the home sits so low under the canopy of the trees is what made it for us. It has that classic Sea Pines architecture. The deck built around the tree in the back is my favorite part of the outside. (though I also enjoy the landscaping I busted my butt doing my 1st weekend there) The big living area outback under the tree is where to be. I also like chilling out in our over sized chairs just outside the master bedroom. Having both the two bedrooms and family room all open up to the back is nice. The interior has great natural daylight in all rooms. We also love the big 16 feet tall ceilings though out. The kitchen needs updated but the layout is great. (wifes planning this) While the house isn't the biggest around, it doesn't feel small because of how open the floor plan is. You can see in the reviews how one of the previous owner guests commented on the size of the place as well.

Great House in Central Location!
This was our first trip (a family of 4 -- 2 adults with a 7 and 9 yr old) to HHI, and we were so happy with our decision to stay in this fun, centrally-located house! We were there for the week of July 4th, which is super busy and arguably the most crowded week of the year at the beach. It was so nice to be able to have a relaxing, quiet retreat away from it all in the Greenwood Forest neighborhood.
We loaded up and rode bikes to the beach every morning. Dustin gave us an excellent recommendation to try riding a little past the Beach Club to find a more secluded beach access. We tried a few and Access #42A was our favorite! We stayed there for at least 3 hours each day. Every morning, we saw a pod of 8 dolphins swim by. If you time it right and are there during low tide, you may luck out and have tidal pools to play in! We did and the kids loved playing in them! After the beach, we would ride back to the house, make lunch, and then chill out at the neighborhood pool. One of our favorite early-evening activities was to ride bikes to the Sea Pines Center then take the trolley to South Beach. Ride the trolley back to Sea Pines Center, then bike to Harbour Town. The kids loved this adventure!
Friends of ours were staying in HHI at Coligny Beach the same week we were there. We left Sea Pines a couple of times to venture out to go visit them at their condo. It was a completely different world! Fun and exciting for a little bit, but we were so thankful to come back "home" to our happy house away from all the hub-bub.
We will absolutely stay at this house again! It has everything you need for a relaxing beach week in Sea Pines. We made breakfast and lunch at the house each day and went out to dinner 3 of the 6 nights we were there. We went to the grocery store twice (there are 2 great ones right outside the gate - Harris Teeter and Publix), go first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds!
We loved our stay, were sad to leave, and hope to be back very soon!
Thank you Dustin for your willingness to provide us HHI rookies with some great recommendations!
Great for family
Very nice home. Bigger than expected. Located right near bike trails which are a must do. Community pool was very nice. You can always find a little shade. Very beautiful area.
Worst experience ever on HHI
This would not be posted had the owner done what he was supposed to do. We arrived to a very rundown property. There was actually mold spores on the ceiling in the living room and black mold coming from the vents. My 79 year old father stepped through the decking on the back of the house as it was rotten. We moved the next day ASAP. Trying to get a full refund was a joke. I do not recommend this property. It needs to be shut down.
Future potential renters please note the reviews AFTER this review. WE DO WHAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. THE DAY I heard that you were unhappy with the place I IMMEDIATELY refunded HALF of your money on the spot. NOTE: I also had my own mother come over to the place and try to confirm what you claimed. (She owns VRBO # 466117 in Shipyard) She told me it wasn't anything that couldn't easily be made right, and that is was worth perhaps a 1 night comp. We had 5 days of rain prior and YES, there were some spots of the registers. Despite my own mother telling me NOT to refund you anything more than a day I refunded HALF THAT VERY DAY. The rest to come after a 3rd party looked at it. (Which I still think is fair.)
Never the less you insisted on a FULL Refund- Instantly, which I was still willing to do (and did) AFTER I got an independent 3rd party to validate or disprove your claim of mold. I hired Ansley with MicroClean Systems. YEP- There was a bit of mold on the registers. He then preformed the following:. MicroClean Technology provided the following services for this property:
Clean, seal & sanitize one HVAC system
Clean & seal all returns
Clean return ducts
Clean & seal all supply boots
Seal all accessible main trunk duct connections
Clean HVAC coils
Install new, pleated 1” filter: 20x22
Replace damaged registers as necessary: 2 14x6, 6 12x6, 10x6, 3 8x6
Remediate all organic growth
Clean & shorten dryer line
No one had mentioned any of this to me prior so I had no way of knowing it was an issue.
Yep- after a professional opinion was acquired, you were right, and I agreed to send you a check for the remaining balance. (which I sent 6-20, and you cashed) I even refunded you the night you were there which was BEYOND what you agreed to.
Here is what I have come to learn in the 7 years of owning a home with 30 renters a year. There is always going to be someone who is unhappy no matter what you do. We have had over 200 renters. The odds are there will be someone unhappy. ( I'm ok with less than 2%)
I should have gone with my gut and not rented to you all in the first place. When you couldn't even sign the renters agreement, claiming "We don't have an iphone to send pics with" then the pics of the place show up...sent from an iphone.
Again- We do and DID what was right. I am sorry you had "the worst experience ever" even though you got refunded more than you agreed to on the phone.
I have full documentation of this if anyone would like to know more. We aren't perfect, but we are good people, with a good property with hundreds of happy renters and we do what is right.
Great location and easy access to every outdoor activity in Sea Pines!
Beach get away among the pines...
Amazing place nestled in Sea Pines. Perfect for a family of 4 or 6. Great location biking distance to all Sea Pines has to offer. Enjoyed every minute, the owner was very attentive to questions we had about the stay and the area. Highly recommend, will stay here again!
Thanks Shannon, We hope to get you down again for the month like we talked about :)
Not such a DEAL
Stayed here for the month of Mar/19. Property failed to live up to the listing and expectations in most respects. Multiple maintenance/repair issues inside and outside Tired house in need of some serious attention by the owner. Would benefit from some owner investment and a local property manager to deal with the problems. Would not consider staying here again. Regrettable first time experience. Learned from neighbors and locals that there are much better alternatives in the area for much better pricing. Friends rented VRBO #1007065 in the neighborhood for the same period and approx same price. Check that out to compare. Giving this property 1 star for location only.
FUTURE POTENTIAL RENTERS- Please read both UNSOLICITED reviews RIGHT BEFORE and AFTER this individual stayed at our home. I have learned in the 7 years of owning our home that "You can't be all things to all people." This renter fails to mention anything in detail in this review. (One item being a small part for the top rack of our dishwasher that was broken while still totally functional and they said not to worry about it.) They also fail to mention that as soon as any issue was mentioned it was handled- QUICKLY. (I bought and had rush shipped 2 NEW Roll away beds when they told me the one had a broken leg on it...which arrived before their children came.) I would also like to point out that I should have gone with my gut and not rented to these folks early on based on our conversations and them not disclosing their pet initially. I also didn't charge them for the comforter that their dog ruined and left for our next renters. I am not perfect, our house is not perfect but we do what is right. We also don't wait until 2:02 AM a week later to leave or respond to reviews :) We have about 7 couples and families who rent from us on a yearly bases so it must not be that bad. Going forward, I'd be happy to discuss this situation with any future renters.
Miles of easy bike trails in the shade. Miles of sandy beaches in the sun. Great ponds everywhere for fishing. Awesome wildlife with alligators and blue herons all over. Dolphins at the beach like clockwork in the evenings. Stunning golf courses. Every where you look is green and lush. In sea pines, the trees come first which is why the roads are so curvy. The roads were originally designed from above with a helicopter to not disrupt the ponds and trees. Great family vacation for all ages of kids. Harbor town and south beach are super kid friendly. Both with live music where the entertainers play to the kids and parents. Let your kids go dance with the others while you have a drink and enjoy the great ocean views. Oh, and the restaurants are great as well. Before dinner you can ride to anywhere in sea pines. There is a nature preserve with an ancient Indian shells circle in the middle of the woods, there is also the remains of a huge civil war home called Baynard ruins. You have to try fishing in many of the ponds all over the place or just plop down on one of the many benches around these ponds and soak it in. We go to the grocery store first thing and load up the kitchen then hardly use our car or leave the plantation the rest of the week.
