Crescent City Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom cabin with mountain views (sleeps 6-7)

Thirty minutes from Crescent City, this charming, hand-built, off-the-grid cabin on the South Fork of the Smith River is the perfect blend of funky/rustic and cozy/comfy. In the winter, curl up in a rocking chair and enjoy a roaring fire in the cast iron woodstove. In the summer, open up the windows and let the forest breezes refresh you. Three large bedrooms sleeps up to 7 comfortably. The master bedroom upstairs opens onto an enormous deck perfect for yoga or enjoying your morning coffee while planning your days on the river or coast. Cook up the fresh fish you catch on the world-class Smith River or buy from the fishing boats in the Crescent City harbor in the well-appointed kitchen. Enjoy your meals on the wrap-around deck, under the shade of the dogwood tree. Help yourself to apples, Asian pears and figs from our home orchard in season. Spend your evenings outside listening to the river around the fire circle, or watching a DVD from our eclectic video library.

A short trail thru the woods takes you down to the River, where you can spend the day reading a book borrowed from our extensive in-house library, or kayaking, rafting or swimming in the cool waters of the river or sunning on the flat, warm boulders at the water’s edge.

Adjacent to the National Forest, our cabin is in the heart of the Six Rivers National Recreation Area; a hiker’s Paradise. The historic Kelsey Trail is literally steps away. This recently rediscovered trail was the original route from Fort Jones to Crescent City, and has just been rebuilt with the help of the California Conservation Corps. The southern trailhead is a 5-minute walk from the cabin, and hikers can walk upriver up to 8 miles along the trail as it follows the South Fork and beyond. Or just go far enough to take advantage of some of the emerald green swimming holes less than a mile away.

We don’t have satellite or cable television, cell phone service or wireless internet access, AND WE LIKE IT THAT WAY! We invite you to unplug, unwind, put the screens away, and experience the truly interactive worldwide web of life. See Nature: the original 3D…Cell phone service is available from a number of spots along South Fork road and Highway 199, and Crescent City has all the modern conveniences, including internet coffee shops.

If you appreciate solitude, privacy, wildlife, birdsong, and the music of the river that runs through it, we look forward to sharing our “Bliss Place” with you.

About Beth Moore

We live in the San Joaquin Valley and both work in environmental careers where we can exercise our shared passion of saving the planet. Spending time here on the Smith River is a way for us to recharge our souls and reconnect with the natural world we cherish. We call this cabin our 'Bliss Place' in honor of our beloved friend, mentor and poet-jester Peter Douglas, who followed his bliss all the way to the South Fork, and then brought us along for the ride. We hope it inspires you to protect something you love.

Bliss pleasure

  • 5 of 5

Cabin (house) was exactly as advertised...beautiful, clean, remote, well-supplied and completely off the grid and cell network. When its cold be prepared to feed the stove. Well situated among many trails and points of interest. Beth is most pleasant as other reviews note. Delightful getaway...thanks.

It doesn't get any better than this!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I have decided that this was by far our favorite trip together. Bliss Place was perfect. We loved waking up to the sun shining on the trees, through the many wonderfully placed windows in the cabin. The hummingbirds zipping around the back deck and coming to the feeder for "nectar" was truly very cool, I think I watched them every morning. The house was well stocked all around. The kitchen was full of spices and cooking supplies, and even a a few goodies like apples (thank you Beth!). The DVD collection was current and diverse, I think we watched a movie every night after dinner. The solar power kept us mindful of our energy consumption, which was refreshing and habit forming! The trail from the house down to the river made it easy to enjoy the peace and quiet of the area and the wonder of the Smith River.

We saw the resident bear enjoying the apples from the tree next to the deck while we were watching a movie, which was an absolute treat. There are so many things to do in the area if you love nature and don't mind a GORGEOUS drive. We did so much while at Bliss Place. Visiting all of the redwood state parks was fantastic, we saw a huge herd of elk, visited Fern Canyon (Jurassic Park II was filmed there!) and Gold Bluffs Beach, hiked down to Enderts Beach, visited the Trees of Mystery, the list goes on... The possibilities in the area are endless and we will definitely be returning in future for the wonderful location, home and hospitality. A big shout out to Beth (property manager) who made our trip even better by being quick to respond to my many emails and a doll to work with.

As a young couple in our twenties, we LOVED this place. It was romantic, secluded and quiet. It doesn't get any better than Bliss Place!

A Blissful Visit

  • 5 of 5

This remote and superbly maintained property provided us with a very fascinating experience in the California forest. Fairly remote, quiet, and very comfortable, our stay was great, as was Beth, our hostess.

Perfection everywhere.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin, the river, the towering redwoods... Everything was perfect. I've never seen a more glorious River than the Smith. The cabin was truly blissful, and the peace and quite abundant. Super comfy beds, fantastic book shelf, and a fully equipped kitchen. It was wonderful to wake up to a sunny California mountain morning and sip coffee on the top deck. Thank you for this Bliss Place!

True bliss!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was lovely. Everyday we went out on a day trip And our kids (10 and 13) asked to come back to the cabin to play in the river and lounge around! The river was crystal clear and refreshing in the mid day heat. The house had everything we could ask for. The reading library was a treat! I spent every evening on the wonderful second story deck waiting for stars and listening to the lovely wind chimes. The hummingbirds put in a fabulous show! We will be back. Next time for a full week.
