About Bob Gilbert
Bob Gilbert grew up on this property, in the adjacent family home. In the summer of 2012 Bob and his wife Cindy put NorthShore, their vacation home, in its place down by the lake shore. Building the 12 x 40 foot deck (33' screened) took a lot of Bob's time that summer, getting it ready for the next year, when others might enjoy it, too. Bob winters in Florida (he is Registrar at Florida Bible College of Tampa), but enjoys the gorgeous summers in northern lower Michigan. His wife Cindy retired from a career of 30+ years teaching, and they together enjoy their children and their children' families.
Bob Gilbert purchased this House in 2012
Why Bob Gilbert chose Frederic
NorthShore is accessible (in the summer) - just 5 miles off I-75 (at exit 270), yet wonderfully private. The lake is pristine, with a sandy bottom, perfect for wading and swimming, even with young children (a lovely big sand-bar goes out from the swimming beach), and also for fishing for large- and small- mouth bass, perch, bluegills, northern pike . . . other water sports are also permitted. There is a public boat landing at the southeast end of the lake, if you desire to bring your own boat, or rent one locally. Bob has available a 14' canoe and/or a 14' rowboat for a small additional charge, by the day or by the week.
What makes this House unique
The views from the living room, the dining room, the master bedroom (with places to stretch out and read or nap, when you can take your eyes away from the view!) The quiet; the animals; hiking in the woods or on the trails. Sitting on the dock; by the lake in the glider . . . Cooking out on the grill; the great porch-deck. Sleeping outside in the cool, if you want to.

Clean. Tidy. Excellent condition.
The house was great. Nice and tidy. We enjoyed our time there. Water is very clear. The boys got a kick out of the noises created by the planes.
Secluded, beautiful lake
Robert's lake house was perfect for our party of 8: 6 adults, a child and a baby.
Robert was especially welcoming, making sure everything was perfectly set up, including verifying that the size of the crib was good (it was)!
The lake is the most beautiful lake in the area. The netted, covered, porch was wonderful for each and every meal we had. We didn't rent the pontoon boat, but we regret not doing so. Instead, we used the fishing boat, and it was great!! The lake was calm and clean; we got in for a swim and had a great time.
There were several national guard training flights during the day, and, while they were loud, WE LOVED IT. They were in a reasonable time during the day, and were an amazing photography challenge.
Great place for a family gathering!!
The screened patio was a great place to relax and eat with the family. The house had plenty of room for all of us. We brought our kayaks and the kids had great time on the lake. I was amazed on how clear the water was. We tried fishing but had no luck. We did have a minor issue but Bob was able to get it correctly quickly and did not affect our trip.
Great place to get away, both quiet and comfortable
The cottage was very comfortable and clean. It seems the owners went out of their way to make sure you had everything that you needed. Open floor plan so everyone could be together while doing different activities. Fishing was good with both large mouth and small mouth bass being plentiful. We saw the deer watching us from the woods on several evenings. There was some activity with jets and helicopters flying overhead but it was minimal and we really enjoyed watching it.
Relaxing times on Guthrie Lake
My family of five had a good time at the Guthrie Lake home. House is secluded and we felt the quiet and calm of nature around us. The house is very spacious and comfortable. The screened porch was wonderful and we spent a lot of time there in the mornings and evenings, bug-free. We rented the pontoon for the week and cruised the lake every day, and the canoe and fishing boat were an added bonus. Fishing not so good...Have to be a true fisherman to enjoy the waiting game for even a nibble. Some might not enjoy the air show of jets and helicopters, but we didn't mind at all, except for the one night at close to midnight. House is close enough to travel around if you want to see other sights and explore. Overall a good week at a reasonable cost.
Thank you for the good review. The fish will have to respond for themselves!
Great time with the family!
We had such a wonderful time with the family and friends that gathered. Thanks for letting us come and use your nice little place. It was just perfect for us. We used the boat and the canoe, and it was a great time. Thanks!
We are very glad you had a good stay.
Gaylord is a golf mecca, with many attractions and amenities. Grayling is a center of canoeing and fly-fishing on the Au Sable River and its branches. Guthrie Lake (on site) is a mile long, sand-bottom, clean, clear water, excellent for swimming, wading, bass fishing, other water sports . . . Nearby is Hartwick Pines State Park, a stand of virgin pine forest, preserved from the lumbering days, as well as a lumbering museum. Also nearby is Otsego Lake State Park, on the 5-mile long Otsego Lake. Gaylord has the 'Call of the Wild' museum, a zoo of preserved Michigan animals; adjoining that is a mini-golf course and go-karting. Grayling has an interesting state fish hatchery.
