Beautiful light filled brown shingle Arts and Crafts house located in one of Berkeley’s most elegant neighborhoods behind The Claremont Hotel and Spa. A five minute walk takes you to shops a great local restaurant, fresh coffee store, wine store, art gallery, and a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere.
This area is wonderful for walking, bird watching, enjoying the magnificent houses, plants, flowers and mature trees. We are an enjoyable fifteen minute walk to the University of California campus. A twenty minute walk to downtown Berkeley and BART subway station. We have a collection of books about Berkeley and the history of the area.
Our home was built in 1912. We have installed all new plumbing, forced air heating, electrical, gas, water, WIFI, foundation and much more. It is rustic and a brown shingle style.
This private home Does Not have a driveway and you must walk up and down a city stairway and paved trail. It is recommended for people who like to walk, enjoy nature and open to a unique experience. Parking is on the street and we walk up about 3/4 of a block to the house.
A game table is set up in the living room for your enjoyment and there is firewood set in the fireplace ready for lighting, remember to open the flue.
The living room has a comfortable new queen sofa with Amish made coffee table and a large stone fireplace. Original woodwork and windows face West to enjoy the Golden Gate Bridge and Sunset views. There are glass pocket doors between the dining room and living rooms for privacy.
Kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances with granite counter tops, cherry wood cabinets, hardwood floor, recessed lighting, bay window with orchids and a South facing view of the back yard.
All cooking and baking items are at hand as well as spices and teas. There is a small breakfast table which overlooks to the back yard and the bird bath.
Dining room has a table with two leaves to enlarge for 8 people. The hutch is original with built in glass doors and drawers. A window seat faces South and is a perfect place to curl up to read a great book, watch birds or day dream. The view of Mount Tamalpais is the best from this room as you sip coffee in the mornings.
Master Bedroom is very large with a queen size bed, vaulted ceiling, lots of light, windows facing South and East with a view of a well tended garden next door. We have two sitting chairs and coffee table for relaxing and viewing the 42' HDTV and DVD player.
Second bedroom is furnished with antiques. A full bed, marble top dresser, inlaid night table, full length mirror, curio cabinet and working treadle sewing machine create a cozy relaxed feeling.
The third bedroom is currently being used as an office with two wooden desks, comfortable leather chairs, lots of books and windows facing North and East. There is currently one single bed soon to be replaced by two singles / trundle bed. Great for kids.
Bathroom is in an Art Deco style with original Deco bathtub, pedestal sink and toilet set. Marble tiles surround the bathtub and floor with granite boarders. The floor is heated and the hardware fixtures are in polished nickle.
Front Porch faces West with stunning views of The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Marin Mountains, Angle Island, Alcatraz Island and beautiful ever changing water, sailboats and sunsets.
There is a stainless steel propane BBQ grill with tools for outdoor cooking.
We rent the top two floors and live downstairs with a separate entrance. We share the washer/dryer which is downstairs in our unit.
Enjoy the private yard with a wooden swing, bird bath, wind chimes, filtered views and lovely ambiance.
There is a local market/deli and large supermarket Safeway close by. Elmwood and Rockridge shopping districts are a quick drive or a nice long walk.

Private location and fantastic views. It's like being in the country in the city with all the amenities. Lots of trees and birds. Five minute walk to Peets coffee, Rick & Anns Restaurant, Bakery, shops and Claremont Resort & Spa.
I highly recommend Scott's home. We felt so fortunate that our other accommodations fell through and at the last minute we found this wonderful place to stay in the Berkeley Hills. The house was spotless, had a very well-appointed kitchen (my husband is an excellent cook and remarked that everything was top notch), the beds were comfortable--we enjoyed sleeping with the windows open to the cool night air while warm under the comforter-and overall there was plenty of living space for a family of five. And Scott has thought of everything, from lists of favorite restaurants and sites to visit to providing small flashlights to take for nighttime returns. The steps to get to the property are part of its charm-especially if you enjoy a bit of a work out- and the peaceful setting well worth the climb; with wonderful smells, birdsong and the sounds of other animals in the background, and Simone, the neighbor's friendly black cat, sunning in the side yard. And, of course, the expansive view of the Bay, with its ever-changing light, enjoyed at all hours, from morning coffee to watching the sun set with evening cocktails, was a constant source of wonder. Scott's house was a huge factor in making our vacation truly memorable.
I spent a little over a week in this house and really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful place, in a gorgeous location. I already miss the view from the living room and deck. It immediately felt like home, not just a place to stay.
We enjoyed our extended stay in this beautifully renovated, spacious home in a terrific Berkeley Hills location with a panoramic view of the Bay and the famous Claremont Hotel below . It was a pleasure to prepare meals in the spotless, well-designed, superbly equipped kitchen, and the master bedroom was a comfortable spot to retire at night with cool breezes and a warm comforter. Scott warmly welcomed us, explaining at length the history of the home and the area, provided many very useful suggestions and directions for walks and hikes, shopping, places to visit, and maps/brochures of the area which helped us greatly in our explorations. We are active, fit seniors, so we capably managed the stairs from the street above and the street below, and wandered all over the hills and into the town below. A memorable stay for us.
Wonderful views but yet an extremely peaceful escape from the city. The home is perfect for a larger family of 5 - 7 people. Scott has preserved the craftsmanship of this historic home while bringing in all the modern conveniences. We loved hearing a history of the home and the area when Scott met us to give a tour of the house. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and resides in a lovely neighborhood. Scott had everything we needed for an 8 day stay and we are hoping to return. Be sure that you are comfortable with stair climbing as there is an elevation change of about 100 feet from the street below. We found it well worth the climb!
Rent this for the spectacular view! ... and well-appointed kitchen, and cozy beds, and the short walk to Peet's Coffee and Fournée Bakery. Scott is a terrific host, ready to do whatever is needed to make it a great stay for his guests. We had a wonderful time.
Wir haben hier als Familie mit 3 Teenagern 11 wunderbare Tage verbracht. Für die vielen Treppenstufen, die man anfangs einmal mit Sack und Pack hinauf muss, wurden wir reichlich belohnt: Das Haus in den Berkeley Hills bietet eine sensationelle Sicht auf die Bucht von San Francisco mit der Stadt und Golden Gate- Bridge im Hintergrund. Es ist eine wunderbare Rückzugsstation nach Ausflügen in die nähere und weitere Umgebung, im Grünen, umgeben von herrlichen Gärten, duftenden Blumen und Eucalyptusbäumen, ruhig und trotzdem nur ca. 10 Minuten entfernt von Universität, Geschäften und super Restaurants. Ein ganz besonderes Wohngefühl.
Es ist geschmackvoll mit viel Persönlichkeit eingerichtet. Das Licht im Haus ist etwas sehr besonderes, leuchtend, frisch und klar, durch die exponierte Lage und die vielen Bäume um das Haus. Die Küche ist perfekt ausgestattet, und verführt dazu, auch selber zu kochen und das umfangreiche Angebot der lokalen (Super-) Märkte zu nutzen.
Scott ist ein sehr engagierter, großzügiger Gastgeber, der immer ansprechbar war und uns viele gute Tipps für Unternehmungen, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten etc. gegeben hat. Nach einer langen Reise wurden wir mit Obst und einer guten Flasche Sekt begrüßt, wirklich sehr nett.
To summarize it: we had a fabulous stay here. We enjoyed every moment, the lovely, well equipped house, the quiet after coming back from our field trips, the wonderful iew, the delicious smell of flowers and eucalyptus!
