About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Fenced Yard, Front And Rear Decks

Happy Trails has The Location--location--location--if you're into hiking, mountain biking, walking with your dog, visiting the town center, or just enjoying all the surrounding forest has to offer, Happy Trails Cabin with its western-themed ambiance is the place to be. Literally steps (about 20, to be exact) to two main trail heads, just park your car at the cabin, and you're off! Not into hiking? A short half-mile stroll puts you in the center of Idyllwild and its shops, galleries, restaurants, and activities (check out Idyll-a-while Wine Tasting--a favorite hangout--and they even let cowboys in). You'll enjoy a king-sized bed in the master, 4 bunkbeds in the second bedroom, a full bath, living room with cozy fireplace, and a real cook's kitchen. Step outside the french doors to a rear spacious deck, overlooking a completely privacy-fenced yard for your kids and pets. Out front you'll find a second gated deck where you'll relax under even more towering cedars. The adjacent county park is a fabulous place to visit and your stay at Happy Trails includes a free park pass, so you pay no fees to use park amenities. It's a favorite place with locals to walk their dogs or take a bike ride. The huge park meadow is viewable from your kitchen window and offers magnificent views of Idyllwild's iconic Lilly rock. Enter further into the park and you'll find Indian petraglyphs preserved and protected by the park. In winter, the sledding and toboggan runs of the park are an easy walk from your temporary home--no need to drive anywhere. Hit the trail in another direction and you'll arrive at Idyllwild's Nature Center--a fun place for both kids and adults to learn about Idyllwild. Your park pass gives you free admission to the Center plus a discount in their gift shop. When your day of enjoying the outdoors is over, you'll relax in a home that features his and hers leather recliners, bar height seating between kitchen and living room in addition to sit-down kitchen table seating, and a comfortable couch that also makes up into a bed. There's a flat screen TV and DVD player over the fireplace, another in the master and second bedroom, and free WiFi for those who just have to check their email. If you like to cook, we've got you covered -- the beautiful kitchen is completely stocked with small appliances, dishes, utensils, spices, staples, etc.

Happy Trails is owned by a cowboy and his favorite gal, but even if you're a total city-slicker, we aim to make all our guests feel completely at home and comfortable with our warm western decor and hospitality...Here's wishing you all many happy trails!

About Kathy Styles

We live on a small horse ranch in Fallbrook and enjoy the company of a dog, a cat, chickens, and horses. Idyllwild is a great, close-by getaway for us and we love to visit our home often.

Kathy Styles purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Kathy Styles chose Idyllwild

We bought our first cabin in Idyllwild in 2003. We added Happy Trails just recently, as a way of offering a different experience to our guests. White Horse Cabin is the horse-lovers' dream. Happy Trails is the hikers' dream. Both great places, just different appeal.

What makes this cabin unique

This home's proximity to trails is unbeatable--no driving necessary. Easy/medium/difficult hikes, all just steps from the deck, and yet a walk to town is only a half-mile stroll. The County Park proximity is fabulous--lots of open space, history, the expertise of the rangers, and the Nature Center close by; the park is utilized almost exclusively by tent campers -- very few motor homes, and the campsites are all out of site of our home; so our neighbors are people who appreciate nature as much as you do.--love that!

5 stars for service

  • 5 of 5

I did not actually stay at this home, because I realized after I had already made the reservation that it might be a bit cosy for my party of 5. This was however after several emails back and forth with the owner Kathy, who was super responsive and so lovely when I finally decided I would like something a little larger. I would recommend this home based on friendliness alone. Thanks again Kathy!

A Great Cabin in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything that it said it would be in the description. The appliances and internet worked very well. The County Park which can easily be seen from the front porch exceeded my expectations. The county park has miles of hiking trails where you can spend hours, not minutes exploring. The town center with shops and restaurants is an easy walk. This cabin is perfect for a smaller group.

The owners were very hospitable and quickly answered all of our questions.

The location is either a long walk or short drive to the major trail-heads in the area. There had been a bit of snow prior to our visit so we did most of our hiking and biking at lower elevations. Idyllwild seems like a friendly town.

Great Mountain Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I am so glad we chose the Happy Trails Cabin! It's cute, cozy and clean! The location is great - the walking/hiking trails are so close and you are walking distance in to town. We took our fur baby and she had just a fun time. There is an enclosed yard and she was able to run around freely. I am so glad that this place is dog-friendly. We would love to stay again - maybe summertime! We REALLY enjoyed our stay.

Lovely cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just as advertised. Nice, homey living space and a full kitchen with everything we needed. There were only two of us, so we didn't need the second bedroom, but it could easily handle 6 people. Very close to hiking trails and to downtown. We will stay there again, next time we are in Idyllwild!!

Fantastic - Location, Location, Location

  • 5 of 5

Steps away from a great walking park and pretty much smack in the middle of Idyllwild - perfect for a mellow, quiet yet close to the action in town. The place was very clean, had all the amenities I could need. Very comfortable. Thank you for letting me stay at your place.

Comfortable mountain get away

  • 4 of 5

Great home to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We loved the location next to the county park and hiking trails. The property is well-maintained with a clean kitchen and big back yard deck. The enclosed yard made it safe for our dog. One thing to consider is the lack of AC. It does get very warm for a few hours in the afternoon. I do recommend Happy Trails Cabin to friends, and we plan to return. The owner was accommodating and prompt.
