Fire Update!!: As some of you may know, the Cranston Fire threatened Idyllwild for about a week starting 07/25. We are so happy to report the fire danger is gone and once again, our first responders saved out town, its homes and businesses, and lovely surroundings. The Air is clear, roads are reopened, there is no visible fire damage when standing downtown in Idyllwild's protected "bowl," and Idyllwild Arts will continue with its traditional Jazz Festival this coming weekend!

Important to know: If you bring dogs, we have a pet fee of $50, which covers a maximum of 2 dogs allowed. We operate legally--Riverside County Tax of 10% must be added to your stay.

Now for the good part:

Happy Trails has The Location--location--location--if you're into hiking, mountain biking, walking with your dog, visiting the town center, or just enjoying all the surrounding forest has to offer, Happy Trails Cabin with its western-themed ambiance is the place to be. Literally steps (about 20, to be exact) to two main trail heads, just park your car at the cabin, and you're off! Not into hiking? A short half-mile stroll puts you in the center of Idyllwild and its shops, galleries, restaurants, and activities (check out Idyll-a-while Wine Tasting--a favorite hangout--and they even let cowboys in). You'll enjoy a king-sized bed in the master, 4 bunkbeds in the second bedroom, a full bath, living room with cozy fireplace, and a real cook's kitchen. Step outside the french doors to a rear spacious deck, overlooking a completely privacy-fenced yard for your kids and pets. Out front you'll find a second gated deck where you'll relax under even more towering cedars. The adjacent county park is a favorite place with locals to walk their dogs or take a bike ride (Note: Day use fees may apply). The huge park meadow is viewable from your kitchen window and offers magnificent views of Idyllwild's iconic Lilly rock. Enter further into the park and you'll find Indian petraglyphs preserved and protected by the park. In winter, the sledding and toboggan runs of the park are an easy walk from your temporary home--no need to drive anywhere. Hit the trail in another direction and you'll arrive at Idyllwild's Nature Center--a fun place for both kids and adults to learn about Idyllwild. The Nature Center pass you will find in the cabin gives you free admission to the Center, all of their hiking trails, plus a discount in their gift shop. When your day of enjoying the outdoors is over, you'll relax in a home that features his and hers leather recliners, bar height seating between kitchen and living room in addition to sit-down kitchen table seating, and a comfortable couch that also makes up into a bed. There's a flat screen TV and DVD player over the fireplace, another in the master and free WiFi for those who just have to check their email. If you like to cook, we've got you covered -- the beautiful kitchen is completely stocked with small appliances, dishes, utensils, spices, staples, etc.

Happy Trails is owned by a cowboy and his favorite gal, but even if you're a total city-slicker, we aim to make all our guests feel completely at home and comfortable with our warm western decor and hospitality...Here's wishing you all many happy trails!

About Kathy Styles

We live on a small horse ranch in Fallbrook and enjoy the company of a dog, a cat, chickens, and horses. Idyllwild is a great, close-by getaway for us and we love to visit our home often.

Kathy Styles purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Kathy Styles chose Idyllwild

We bought our first cabin in Idyllwild in 2003. We added Happy Trails just recently, as a way of offering a different experience to our guests. White Horse Cabin is the horse-lovers' dream. Happy Trails is the hikers' dream. Both great places, just different appeal.

What makes this cabin unique

This home's proximity to trails is unbeatable--no driving necessary. Easy/medium/difficult hikes, all just steps from the deck, and yet a walk to town is only a half-mile stroll. The County Park proximity is fabulous--lots of open space, history, the expertise of the rangers, and the Nature Center close by; the park is utilized almost exclusively by tent campers -- very few motor homes, and the campsites are all out of site of our home; so our neighbors are people who appreciate nature as much as you do.--love that!

Sweet Serenity!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect cottage for a relaxing weekend in the mountains! We were able to walk into town to enjoy the shops and dining. It was also a short drive to the nature center. For moderate hikers such as myself and my husband, I highly recommend the Deer Springs trail to Suicide Rock. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and the smell of the neighboring camp fires. The bed was cozy, towels soft, and all the amenities you need. Even though we came to have a “kid free” weekend, I think we will bring our kids next time!

Happy Trails cabin in Idyllwild

  • 5 of 5

Great property right next to a big park! The cabin was charming, clean and cozy. Loved having the fireplace. The heater was excellent and warmed up the house quickly. Our 2 small dogs loved the fenced yard and fenced porch! We would definitely rent this cabin again.

Great place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Happy Trails Cabin. It was very quiet and relaxing. Our dog loved the backyard and having trails right outside was great too. Idyllwild was within walking distance. We loved the small town feel of Idyllwild. We will look to rent this cabin on our next visit to Idyllwild.

Great location, hiking or shopping very convenient

  • 5 of 5

Of all the cabins we've rented, this one has the closest access to hiking trails - literally right outside the door. Park ranger is a moment's walk away and very friendly. The cabin is not necessarily large, but never felt small to our family of four. Maybe it's the high ceilings. Water gets hot promptly in the shower/sink. There was almost no noise from the road. Host was always responsive, and we'd certainly come here again.
