About Amy Thompson

We bought our lake house as a retreat for us and our family and friends, many of whom live in nearby Boston, New York and Hartford. It's a great gathering spot and we have already made lasting memories in this special spot.

Amy Thompson purchased this house in 2012

Why Amy Thompson chose Berkshires

We've always loved vacationing in the Berkshires, with its cultural attractions, natural beauty and varied recreational activities.

What makes this house unique

The best parts: the lake just steps from the door, lunch on the screened in porch, beautiful views, the family of ducklings gliding by early in the morning, snowy walks on bright winter mornings.

Perfect location, very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable house; warm lake; relaxing rides on a boat; large enough lawn to play mini-soccer and badminton. Amy was very nice and accommodating.

Quiet lakefront house accessible to Berkshire activities

  • 5 of 5

This is a comfortable lakeside home. Some amenities we appreciated include: canoe, screened in porch with dining table, washer and dryer, basic supplies provided. The house offers a quiet respite in the country, away from the crowds of Lenox and Stockbridge but still easily accessible.

Amy is a responsible and responsive host. She was in regular communication with us to ensure that we had a good vacation.

Owner's Response: We really enjoyed having Nancy, Mark and their friends at the lake house. They stayed in touch with us, were flexible when our workperson needed to stop by to check on a couple of things and, most importantly, they seemed to have a great time taking advantage of the beautiful Berkshires! They even texted me from their symphony date at Tanglewood to report a fantastic concert experience and beautiful weather.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have Susan and her family stay at our place. They took full advantage of all our amenities, including even our bicycles, and were in touch throughout their stay to let us know how things were going. They were quite familiar with all the Berkshires has to offer so we are honored that they want to return with more family members next summer!

Great lakeside cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week at this very nice clean lakeside cottage. The house was just the right size for us and the screen porch was perfect. We had all of our meals there! It was great to be so close to Great Barrington which was full of restaurants, a movie theater, and our new favorite, SoCo ice cream!

Our one wish was that the house had a longer dock and a floating dock anchored out further in the lake. Closer to the shore, the lake is very weedy. Our kids are definitely lake swimmers but had to go pretty far out in the water to get away from the weeds. There may be restrictions on what can be built in the lake that prevented the owners from doing this? We did take advantage one day of the campground across the lake that had a great waterslide and swimming area - plus pool tables and kayaks for renting!

That said, we used the canoe at the house daily, the lake was quiet and peaceful - and we made friends with a mother duck and her 6 babies who came up and rested on the front lawn under the bushes every day. :-) It was a wonderful place to stay and the owners were very helpful.

Owner's Response: Gwynne and her family were excellent guests. Ours is a small lake and the lake association is indeed very careful about the environmental impact of weed control. We will definitely look into making it possible to float our dock further out into the water. We hope they will come back to visit again.

Charming lakefront summer getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely retreat tucked away on a small, placid lake. And it was one of the most well-stocked homes we have rented. Nearly everything is provided for, except for food and other consumables. We spent most evenings enjoying the fire pit by the lake, fueled by the ample wood supply. We spent the afternoons on the lake in the canoe and fished. We explored the surrounding towns and never had a bad meal. Great location! Amy was a gracious host and very communicative. Highly recommended.
