About C. Owens

A licensed real estate agent, I love everything to do with homes. My family built this home in 2012 to be close to the beach as we absolutely love being close to the water. We especially love cycling, fishing, the great outdoors, outdoor concerts and the like. Come share our '"close" to the beach cottage and explore Virginia Beach for yourself.

C. Owens purchased this house in 2012

Why C. Owens chose Virginia Beach

This parcel of land has been in our family for generations. We finally had the opportunity to build here in 2011-2012. Ground was broken for this cottage in October 2011.

We decided to build in 2012 in order to get exactly what we wanted and this is the perfect fit for us.

The name Hughes-Mitchell is our mother's surname. We have another street in the neighborhood named 'Hughes'. So as you can see this land and area is strong and rich with our family heritage and history.

What makes this house unique

Access to all of the beach activities and just a short bike ride away. There are several bike rental establishments in this area. Bike riding is a very popular way to get around at the Oceanfront. Traffic is often busy and finding parking can be hectic as well as expensive. This home is a vacation place, but located in the midst of a residential area, thus offering ultimate privacy and relaxation. This home can not be used as a party house! Large porch and outside deck with sitting area. There is a recreation center within a short walk away that has an indoor pool and fitness center for use at a minimal fee.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great house, great host, great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 9 guys had a terrific stay in Virginia Beach. From the moment we arrived at the house, the host was eager to make sure we were pleased. The house is located far enough from the beach to avoid the busy streets, yet it is still an easy walk away; it is in the perfect location. Additionally, it was so nice having a driveway with free, easy parking.

As for the house itself, our only critique is that there was limited kitchen cabinet space, as most of the cabinets were taken already. This made it hard to store some groceries. However, other than this minor imperfection, we were thoroughly impressed with the amount of space in the rooms as well as the great design of the interior. We were able to sleep 9 comfortably. We also appreciated the number of bathrooms and the outdoor grill. If you have the opportunity to rent this property, do not hesitate! The town of Virginia Beach left our group with so many memories (I certainly recommend Bay Venture Boat Rentals & Topgolf), but this house made it even better.

Owner's Response: It was indeed a pleasure to host this group of young men. Admittedly we were reluctant due to the fact that they all were young and single! They proved that you can't paint all individuals with similar characteristics with the same "brush". They followed house rules and left the house clean and tidy. We make every attempt to provide our guest with plenty of dishes, serving platters and the like. The bottom cabinets are also filled with blender, toaster, coffee makers, etc. maybe we can store some of these items elsewhere and allow more storage cabinet space; a thought. Nonetheless this young group was a remarkable group to host.

Wedding / Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here when my son (in the Navy) was married. it was perfect for the 9 of us! Two of the upstairs bedrooms are slightly larger then they appear in the pictures. (the small room however, is big enough for a queen bed and a luggage rack - which was perfect for my mother who had her own room) This was so much more affordable than 4 hotel rooms for 4 nights - especially when one night was part of Memorial Day weekend. We found the place to be clean, well kept, and convenient. There is a grocery store nearby and the beach is only a few minutes away. Thank you for being part of this amazing time!

Very clean and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

House was very clean, nicely decorated and beds were comfortable. We had eight adult sized people, so trying to get together to play games was a tight squeeze. Close to a large grocery store and several restaurants. Convenient location to the beach, which was just a few minutes drive away.

We had two families, so it was very helpful to have two bathrooms with showers ANd a half bath!

We utilized the kitchen quite a bit. I do a fair amount of cooking and baking, even while on vacation...so it's always a little challenging to cook in somewhere else. It would have been nice to have sharper knives, measuring cups and measuring spoons. Cooking pans are not non-stick, so bring plenty of cooking spray or butter. Bring your own ziplocks, foil or plastic wrap for leftovers.

There's a cute little backyard with a fire pit, but we were unable to use it as it was too rainy. Would have been fun...

Owner was very easy to contact and wonderful to work with. We would love to come back sometime when it's not an expensive Memorial Day weekend.

Lovely Well-decorated House with Lots of Sleeping Space

  • 5 of 5

This house was lovely. It’s has great layout for a group with a kitchen that opens into common space and lots of bedrooms. I particularly liked some of the furniture choices (really cool glass bathroom sink and some funky tiny desks.) There were quite a few bonus sleeping-spaces (convertible sofas) and blanket/linens to go with them.

The only drawbacks were that the host was a little slow to respond to my first email (about the address, which wasn’t posted with the listing). But after I sent a second, Chris was very responsive, helpful, and flexible. The house is also a ways from the beach (30 minute walk) but there is a nice walk/bike trail to follow. And Lyfts are readily available. (was about $7 one-way)

I would stay again. Thanks Chris!
