Welcome to the Retreat at Insmont.

NOW ACCEPTING Pay Pal

Our 128 year old historic retreat is located approximately 45 miles from Denver via Hwy 285. Our1700sf retreat was originally built in 1898 and its history served as the Insmont General Store and Post Office, Depot for the Colorado Southern and Pacific Railroad,, painters studio and now our family mountain retreat.

The retreat is a truly inspirational "RUSTIC" home situated a stones throw from the North Fork of the South Platte River and nestled in the solitude of the Pike National Forest. The sound of the river rapids are heard year round and sweeping views of the river and mountains to the west make for some of the best sunsets in the area. It is understandable why our retreat is the perfect location for writers, artists, lovers, hikers, anglers, and all those who seek intimate sanctuary and solitude from city life. You will be surrounded by nature, tall pines, firs, wildflowers, deer, elk, wild turkeys, small mammals, fox, a variety of native birds and the picturesque beauty of a meandering river below a mountainside backdrop.

Over the past 7 years we completed the preservation of our historic retreat. Although it’s not a true “historic preservation”; painstaking efforts were taken to preserve the property the best we could, yet incorporate some modern comfort conveniences too. If you are looking for the quality of a luxury hotel, the retreat is probably not for you as it is still rustic! The Retreat is ideal for enjoying the view while soaking up the morning sun over a cup of coffee. The large fireplace perfect for sipping brandy in the evenings or reading a new novel. The main eating area is grounded by a large historic 12 foot farm table and chairs which is perfect for hosting large group dinners or crafting your favorite art project. Off of the main living room is the entryway and reading room with two cozy reading chairs, vaulted ceiling and an amazing view of the river and the mountains to the west. It is common to view Elk, deer and other wildlife in the meadow from this room.

NOTE: Due to the historic nature of our property, and to limit physical impact to the property; we do not typically accept reservations for guests wanting to host large gatherings, special events, weddings or social events.

Mountain Activities near the Retreat include:

• Jeeping Grants Pass, Hall Valley, Redcone Peak, Guanella Pass and others.

• Hike the nearby Colorado Trail, South Twin Cone Peaks, Platte Peak, Payne Benchmark.

• Fishing our stretch of river regularly produces native and raised trout in excess of 20”

• Additional fishing can be done at Wellington Reservoir, Anglers can fish in the river below or go to Boxwood Gulch, Cheesman Reservoir, Blue River, Long Meadow, or along the South Platte and along Bear Creek.

• Drink a morning coffee riverside outside of the retreat!

• Stargazing is some of the best in the area!!

PLEASE NOTE: Pets are allowed by exception only at the Retreat and must be approved by the owner prior to booking your reservation. This is strictly a non-smoking property. We do allow campfires in our designated fire pit when burn restrictions are not enforced.

Must be at least 25 to rent and photo ID such as Driver's License or Passport may be required. Our on sight property manager is responsible for monitoring access to the facility which is strictly enforced. About The Retreat at Insmont

As life long Colorado natives, we take full advantage of our little retreat in Bailey to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We originally purchased the retreat in 2007 after a searching the state for a perfect mountain property that was close to Denver, had mountain views, was located in a National Forest and most importantly, was located on a river or lake. As you can imagine, those properties are rare and expensive to say the least!

The Retreat at Insmont purchased this cabin in 2007

Why The Retreat at Insmont chose South Central

The Retreat is one of the most intimate, charming rare one-of-a-kind, historic homes in the Bailey area. It has it all, mountains, solitude, history, waterfront, National Forest and clean mountain air. If the 3 bears really did have a home.... this storybook property would be it!!

What makes this cabin unique

You would never know you are only 60 minutes from Denver!

Off the grid, rustic, yet comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 traveled from Ohio to stay here 3 nights. We loved the retreat! The sound of the river and crisp mountain/forest air was awesome. Saw a fox, rabbits, various birds, beautiful sunsets and starry sky at night. The retreat itself was well stocked and comfortable with very good cell reception - no issues for those who need to stay connected back home, etc. (We have Verizon.) With two teenagers - didn't turn the tv on once - they had a fantastic time! Had fires outside (need to call each day to Park Service for ok - don't want any forest fires) and inside the home. House is rich in history - be sure to read the black book on history of ownership and talented Artist who did so many things to the home. Also the big book on Colorado depicts comparison photos from early 1900's to now. Saw a concert at Red Rocks Ampitheater 35 minutes away - phenomenonal venue. Crow Hill Cafe was our favorite nearby diner. Cabins/neighbors were closer than anticipated, but didn't impede our stay. Great location - close to Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs - all of which we visited. Would stay here again!

My family had a great time at this house. The Property and house was beautiful. Landed one 20" rainbow and hooked into a couple others I'm not use to fishing the swift water.

Character, Comfort, History, and Beauty

  • 5 of 5

The drive into quaint Bailey, from Frisco was beautiful, and arriving at the Retreat was everything we hoped. This historical cabin welcomed us with it's class and artistic style immediately. The kids bunk room was perfect for our son, the kitchen was rustic yet highly functional and, like the rest of the house, oozing with character. The bedrooms were cozy, lux and artfully decorated. I just say enough good things about the Retreat. I'll just let the awe inspiring property speak for itself when you visit...assuming we haven't booked every available weekend ;)

PS fly fisherman enjoy...caught a 15" brown...amazing!

Everything we hoped for our family get away!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a gem! We love that it's so close to Denver. The cabin is the epitome of nostalgia. We all loved the stone fireplace. There was a open fire ban when we were there so we didn't get to use the outdoor fire pit. =( Still... The property is gorgeous and well stocked. It's so close to our Wellington Lake - our family favorite place to hike and relax. We will be back to this cabin without a doubt. The only thing for a wish list would be a shower of some sort... ;)

First, I want to let all of our renters know that we recently received notification from VRBO and Homeaway that they are now charging a "service Fee" to all renters for the "privilege" of reserving a property through one of these associated sites. Please understand this is a fee that goes directly to VRBO and Homeaway and not the property owners in any way. It is very disappointing that VRBO is now charging these fees to our renters, as well as charging the owners, us, an additional transaction fee for the "privilege" of having our property listed on their site too! OH forgot to mention the annual hosting fees they get also for each property!! if you are also concerned about these additional fees, please leave feedback on their site to communicate them. We are also accepting PayPal as a payment option so assist in saving our great clients this "privileged" rental overhead!!!!

As our guest at the Retreat, please understand that the Retreat is not an event or social party hosting venue and is not to be used as such. All social events in excess of those identified in the rental request must be approved in advance due to the impact on our historic property. Please refer to our rental agreement for details regarding hosting of unapproved events and socials and on sight property management rental termination policy!
