It has been recently renovated to provide all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. High-speed Internet (WiFi) is also provided at no extra cost. Enjoy the designated work/study space that has a built-in desk and overhead lighting for your laptop.
The large kitchen is in a separate room. It has a full-size gas range and refrigerator, microwave oven (with popcorn) and dining table that can comfortably seat four. You’ll have a coffeepot (with fresh regular or decaf coffee ground to your taste), teapot (with a selection of teas), toaster and all the pots, pans, dishes, glassware and utensils you might need. We also provide an ironing board, iron, hair dryer and even a couple of umbrellas should you get an opportunity to experience Seattle’s liquid sunshine.
The bathroom has a full-size tub with a shower and a ceiling heater for added comfort. All the necessary towels and linens are included.
As a matter of information the apartment is in the basement of the house that was constructed in 1907, thus the ceiling height and door openings are a bit lower than normal. And there is one step up to the house from the driveway and then five steps down to the apartment that persons with physical limitations could find challenging.
We have designed our backyard to provide a great place to relax and entertain. There’s plenty of seating area, a BBQ, large table with an umbrella and a big fish pond with a water feature to provide a peaceful ambience. A table-top propane heater is available for chilly evenings.
While on-street parking is generally available, our driveway will easily accommodate your car at no additional cost. A private side entrance with a keypad lock affords easy access and security. A few stairs take you to the actual entrance of the apartment with its own entry door. With respect to security, we have a centrally monitored security and fire detection system.
Public transportation is one block away. The #49 Metro bus will take you to the Capitol Hill business and entertainment district, to downtown Seattle and north to the University of Washington. This bus also connects you to nearly all parts of Seattle’s metropolitan area and even to the airport via our new light rail “Link” system. If you are flying into Seattle, the Link and the Metro bus provide door-to-door service to the Brass Bed Guestroom. Walking, biking and maybe one of the many daily rentable cars are other good transportation options. And how about a water taxi to West Seattle for fish and chips and a volleyball game on the beach, or a ferry ride to Vashon Island or to the San Juan Islands, or even an overnight getaway to Victoria in British Columbia?
We are Larry and Suzi Hettick. We're both from Oregon and have lived in and traveled to many US and overseas locations. We moved to Seattle in 1992 to make this our forever home. Restoring it to its original condition while remodeling and upgrading it to accommodate modern features has been our passion. Our lower-level basement was our latest project – over a year in the making, we have transformed over 525 square feet of space into an apartment that provides all the comforts of home.
We selected this location for its historical heritage, convenient access to all Seattle has to offer, and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. You will definitely feel welcome here.
we have good experience and knowledge with most of the things to do and see in Seattle, and we always like to share such information with other people. There's so many things to do and so little time to do them so we are always available to help you plan and then enjoy your Seattle trip. Hospitality is what we are all about -- that's our story and we are sticking to it! We truly look forward to meeting you.

It’s all possible and we will do everything we can to meet your needs.
Seattle really is a “take-advantage-of-it” kind of city. The Brass Bed Guestroom gives you the base from which to enjoy your time here. We have one real goal – to give you the space, tools and comforts of a home-style environment to maximize your visit to our city. We are in an ideal location; it’s safe, secure and private, and in a residential neighborhood that welcomes visitors – and yet just a stone’s throw away from whatever might interest you. It’s perfect for both business and vacation travelers.
From the first communication until the end of my visit, Larry and Suzi went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Even better, they treated me like family. Their unit is in wonderful condition and includes everything one needs for two nights or two weeks. Clean, comfortable, cozy and close to the delightful downtown Capitol Hill main street. The kitchen has all the items required for staying in and their "coffee service" even includes a decaf option. Since they'd had their fill of tomatoes, they even provided fresh produce from their garden. It doesn't get much better than this!
Larry and Suzi were the perfect hosts, their Guest Cottage was delightful, well situated in the city, on a lovely residential street. Close to all that was needed; food, transportation, views! We couldn't have asked for a better place; we'll definitely be going back!
We enjoyed our stay at the Brass Bed Guestroom. The location was great and the apartment had everything we could possibly need. We were very comfortable there. The owners are very nice to work with and we plan to come back soon!
We found the apartment to be quiet, comfortable, and close to the bus line, which could take us to the U district and downtown. It is just a short walk to Volunteer Park (conservatory and Asian Art Museum) and to Capitol Hill restaurants. We hope to return soon!
We were visiting Seattle for the first time and didn't really have a game plan, except we wanted to see EVERYTHING. We had a list of about 5 surrounding cities that we wanted to visit, due to potential business opportunities. But as far as the touristy stuff, we had a general idea, but nothing concrete. Larry was a VERY big help! Upon arrival, he had a map of Seattle with a list of things to do and see. He was very knowledgeable of the city and filled us in with plenty of insightful information.
The room itself was more than sufficient for the two of us. It had all the essentials and was spacious enough for 6 days worth of clothing/luggage. And to make things easier, Larry sent us detailed instructions ahead of time.
I HIGHLY recommend staying here. Great location, good size, awesome owners. Thanks again for everything!
As I rebook this wonderful place, I just want to say that Larry and Suzi are the perfect hosts. The apartment is well appointed, well located and just perfect for a comfortable stay. Larry accommodated my paranoia need to have my racing bike inside after my two other racing bikes were stolen a week earlier. Thank you Larry for that. Now we are booking again so that we can go to the opera in Seattle and wonder around as we are want to do. This time though without the bike and the paranoia. We love this cozy place. Thank you again.
