We are located in a quiet residential neighborhood. We want (and encourage) you to enjoy yourselves but this is not a party house.
Our property, which fronts an ocean side canal, has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, all quite nice and very comfortable. There is a huge master bedroom suite, with its own large bathroom, walk-in closet, independent central A/C unit, small refrigerator (in the closet) and direct access both to the canal side terrace and the rest of the unit through separate doors. Aside from the master suite we also have a second master suite (queen-size bed and private bathroom) and a 3rd bedroom with 2 twin beds. The 3rd bathroom is located just outside the door to that bedroom in the hallway. PLEASE....THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE WILL ACCOMMODATE, INCLUDING CHILDREN, IS SIX (6). There is a clause in our agreement strictly limiting the number of guests allowed.
There is a fully equipped kitchen with wood cabinets and granite counter top, a living area with very comfortable furniture and a nice dining area. It is an open floor plan with 9’ ceilings (and ceiling fans) throughout which add to the feeling of spaciousness. Large flat screen high definition TV’s with premium cable and DVR are installed in the living area and both master suites. All living areas are located on the level above ground floor with a staircase to the front door and another in the back (again, canal side) going up to the terrace. The terrace itself is open to the prevailing warm summer breezes coming from the South.
To top it off, we have a very inviting pool downstairs and a chickee hut (native structure) for shade.
There is ample covered parking for two under the house.
For you boaters, Port Largo is known not only as a beautiful residential area but also for its canals. They are 80’ wide and 20’ deep. You can carry a 4’ foot draft in and out of the canal even at extreme low tide. The property is 75’ wide and there is a dock running the entire width. Although I do keep our boat there on a boatlift, there is ample space to tie up a 30’ boat in the remaining space. I believe we are the deepest water canals between the famed Ocean Reef Club in north Key Largo and the marinas in the Marathon area, so don’t be afraid to come on down by boat or trailer one down. The main entrance to Port Largo canal (unobstructed by bridges) opens up directly into the waters of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, both of which were at the vanguard of marine ecosystem conservation programs at the state wide and national levels. Molasses Reef, one of the most dived areas in the world, yet still a wonder to behold, is right at your back door.
If you decide to stay with us I would be happy to recommend local restaurants and watering holes, for those inclined to go out and not cook. They are too numerous to mention and several within walking distance. The quality of the local seafood and specialty preparations is excellent.
There is a community park within walking distance with a vita course, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, volleyball courts, handball courts and an Olympic pool and diving area where world class college swim teams train in the winter. The pool area there also has a children's pool and water park that can keep the kiddies quite entertained for several days if the pool at home does not hold their attention.
Our place is a legal duplex located in one of the most desirable areas in Key Largo called Port Largo. The community is made up of beautiful single-family homes with a few duplexes like ours interspersed among them. The street side unit is a 1-bedroom which has been rented full time by a local fishing guide for about 10 years. He is very easy to get along with and helps us maintain the property. The rental unit you will occupy is totally separate from the front unit and completely private.
If you have any questions or would like more pictures of the area and neighborhood besides the posted ones, let me know. I'd be happy to send them to you via e-mail.
My name is Emilio. I was born in Cuba but left there, along with my family, when I was a young man of 9. We lived in Chicago for a number of years before my parents decided to move to South Florida. I came down with them, went to the University of Florida in Gainesville but ended up back in the South Miami area. A friend took me his family place in Key Largo and the rest is history. Never have been able to get away from the area. I split my time between South Miami, where I live, and this place in Key Largo where I fish, dive, take pictures, watch the birds soaring or the manatees that sometimes come into our canals, play tennis and relax with friends as often as I can. It takes me just less than an hour to get from one place to the other, so it's easy.
I've been coming down to the Keys since 1967 (yes, I was just a kid!) I immediately fell in love with the area. 20 years later my family and I managed to scrape together the money to buy this property and build a weekend getaway. Been enjoying it ever since.
I am partial to the Ocean side of the keys because of the clear blue water, reefs, game (and meat) fishing and scuba diving. The easy accessibility to these areas by boat is what makes it so special to me. The Florida Bay side, though, more than holds its own in terms of natural beauty and you can boat (or drive, even walk) to that side. It's the whole package that attracts me.
I was visiting Key Largo with my wife and 9 year old son. This holiday home was perfect for us. The complete kitchen was excellent for those meals at home, and when we chose to dine out it was close to everything. We drove around and looked at other residential areas and Port Largo is definitely the best. Wide canals, upscale homes, and safe and quiet. Our son was in the pool constantly. 10" of snow back home. Lots of jealous friends this past week!
My family stayed here for a week this summer. This house is an incredible vacation spot. We spent much of our time in the awesome Tiki Hut listening to music. The house is immaculate and modern. Everything a family needs is provided. Additionally, the pool is open and shallow throughout. My boys stayed in the pool for hours each day. Every night we made dinner and sat outside enjoying the view.
Cooking is simple because the kitchen has everything. The owner is extremely helpful and personable. Access to the ocean is minutes away. Indeed, we did not want to leave. We will return.
I can't stay enough about this nice vacation house. The location is great, the neatness and decoration are perfect,I will recommend it to all my friends and family who are looking for a fun and relaxing place to vacation at the Upper Keys.
We spent a long weekend last summer at this property with two families. We brought our boat, it was easy to dock boat in canal on property. Kids had a great time fishing off the dock and enjoying the pool, as well as swimming in the canal. Kitchen is well equipped, all we brought were groceries. Publix grocery store is right around the corner. House is clean and well maintained with a real keys feel. Balcony is a perfect space to relax, read a book, and enjoy a cocktail. Snorkeling was only a 20 minute boat ride to one of the most beautiful reefs we have seen! This is a repeat for us, we can't wait to return this summer for anohter family adventure!
Key Largo, and Port Largo specifically, are only one hour yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of Miami and other larger cities. If you like the ocean and all related activities you will love it here. The ocean side of the keys, just outside our canal, offers reefs, wrecks, drop-offs, sand and grass flats, small islands and a very well developed infrastructure. The Florida Bay side, which you can also get to easily by boat (or you can walk across US 1) from our place gives you the Back Country of shallow water, tranquility, game fish of all shapes and sizes and gorgeous sunsets.
