Cozy, Rustic A Frame on Big Creek Sleeping 8-10 Guests
Built in 1977, this cabin has served as a retreat for three generations of our family. Since 2006, its classic a-frame design, locally sourced wood and stone has invited guests to enjoy a cozy, outdoors getaway here on Norris Lake. We hope we can welcome you into our little slice of heaven.
Over the years we listened to every piece of feedback and advice our guests had. That’s why, in 2017, we underwent a substantial renovation to meet those demands and keep up with the growing popularity of the area.
This three bed, two bath boasts an open floor plan downstairs and two large porches, both overlooking the lake. Downstairs, you will find the fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a master bedroom featuring classic, rustic cabin furnishings, a smart tv and a queen size bed, a newly renovated master bath with an oversized bath/shower combo and the great room. The great room includes upgraded DirectTV entertainment on a 55 inch flat-screen TV, a blue tooth sound bar as well as a sectional sofa, recliner and a love seat. Additional kitchen appliances can be found below.
Upstairs we have two bedrooms and a newly-renovated bathroom. The loft bedroom overlooking the great room sleeps 2 in a queen bed while the back bedroom sleeps 4 with two double beds. Both bedrooms are connected to the upstairs porch which includes seating. For your comfort, a window mounted air conditioner has been added to our upstairs double room.
Our cabin is centrally located so it's really easy to get where you need to go by water! Sequoyah Marina is one of the largest marinas on the lake, and you're just a 10 minute (speed) boat ride away! Sequoyah is a full-service marina offering WaveRunners and Pontoon boat rentals. They start off all their weekends on Friday night with their famous "Wing Night" serving the best wings and coldest Corona on Norris Lake!
Also, just a 10 minute (speed) boat ride away, is Whitman Hollow. Whitman is a smaller dock, but don't let that fool you. Froggies is Whitman's bar that prides itself on great music, delicious food, friendly staff and their high rise dining deck.
For all your land traveling needs, we're really in that happy medium of just close enough in case you need anything and far enough out to not be bothered by the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You'll be in town in about 20-25 minutes and there you'll find an array of food, grocery shopping, gas stations etc.
Unlike most rentals on Norris Lake, we’re from this area and we'd like to think that gives us a little more appreciation and love for this amazing lake. Here, you're not just a tenant, you're a guest in our 3rd generation family home. Come stay with us, and see for yourself why life is always better at the lake.

We love this property. This is our second stay at this precious cabin and we’ve already booked our next trip to stay. This year the cabin was even more comfortable than last year. The property manager and owner are very attentive and responsive.
Had a great time at norris beautiful property. Needs some minor things a few light plate covers were missing but overall we had a fantastic time. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Hi Andrew! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We took your comments into consideration and fixed these issues. Take care and be well, Greg and Mary Dee Bruce
The cottage was very charming. The location was great and the weather was even better.
The deck and steps need a little attention. The one thing I wish for would be to thin the trees out so you could see more of the lake and especially between the cottage and the dock as you can’t see the dock from the cottage.
The house was exactly as described. Our only issue was with meal times. There is no light over the dining table and only 4 chairs. We utilized the stools, but they are really too high for the table.
There was plenty of room to park the car and truck and trailer. The access to the lake and dock was manageable.
We had a great time!

Norris Lake Stay
Very difficult identification of property (I suggest adding property number to home- less than $20). Code given by VRBO was inaccurate. Causing several issues which were resolved by property owner. Overall great place for our weekend. Catfish from the dock. Might be an internal leak, kitchen had running water noises.
Great family cabin. Love seeing the family photos on the walls that were taken on the lake Cabin is clean, linens were provided with extra blankets and such. Bring beach towels as they do not have any at the house. AC works great as we were there on a week of 90* all week. Any kitchen item you need was in the cabinet. Extremely nice to have a washer and dryer right by the main level. A few notes for future renters: the stairs to the 2nd floor are very narrow (I’d recommend kids upstairs), the property is on a pointe so boats do cruise around the corner fast creating wake (our boat was fine but bring extra fenders to use), we brought a folding wagon to use to haul items up and down the hill to the boat dock (the walk up the hill is not bad, much preferred over 100+ steps).
Cabin is comfortable and cozy with a well-appointed kitchen. Nice decks with views of the lake. Enjoyed the fire pit close to the lake. Dock was adequate for the pontoon boat we rented from Whitman Hollow Marina but a bit of a docking challenge due to boat traffic (cabin is on the main channel) and crosswinds. Grade from the lake to the cabin was fairly easy to manage for someone of average fitness. There was a local power outage on our second day there, contacted the property manager and the power company had power back on within a few hours. Check-out instructions easy to comply with. Thanks for the thoughtful welcome bottle of wine and the Goldfish crackers which we enjoyed! This was a relaxing week for us and our dog.

Good location. place was pretty clean.Deck looking at the water. Had a ant problem in the the kitchen. We sprayed they just kept coming back. They need to have a slip type dock,so you could tie off both side of the boat to keep it from rubbing or scratching the boat. There is a lot of boat traffic and wake boarders .and the waves it really rock the dock and your boat, I had 5 bumpers on my 18-0 boat .No scratches but dulled the finish in one place.

Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for your review! We have since gotten a new dock and hired a pest control company! Hope to accommodate you in the future!
Front steps are difficult for elderly and handicapped. No guardrail and high. Inside of cabin is beautiful. Propane grill was nasty, glad we brought grill matts. Ran out of propane after one use. Oven inside dirty and bottom drawer extremely hard to open and close. Toilet in bathroom is very low to floor and hard for elderly to use. Stairs of back deck need alot of repair and no gate as pictured. Definitely not a good cabin for elderly or handicapped.
House review
The cabin had everything we needed for a fun yet peaceful week on the lake. Internet worked great as well as satellite TV. Loved the iron skillets. Even with temps in the mid-80’s, the back deck stays cool with shade and a constant breeze. There’s also a sunny area for tanning. We rented a pontoon boat from a local Marina for a day and had no trouble tying up at the dock for an hour or two. There is a ladder for getting back on the dock after a nice swim. The water was wonderful!! Yes, coming up the hill from the fire pit and/or dock is exhausting. Firewood was provided as well as kindling. Comfy beds and awesome decks as described. Spent most time on the decks and dock or on the grass under the shade tree near the dock.

Hi Janet! We're so happy you enjoyed your stay. Come back and see us soon! Take care and be well, Greg and Mary Dee Bruce
This cabin has an old charm feel, and we felt very much at home. We stayed with our family and friends. We had a total of 5 adults, 3 children, and an infant. It fit us all comfortably, anymore people than that it would not have accommodated well. The adult and child sleeping in the loft did not have much privacy and it was somewhat difficult in the morning to not wake them. But the outside deck accommodated us quite well until they were ready to wake up. The lake is breathtaking. The dock was so much fun for the kids to jump off and swim. Downsides include the dock not having a ladder, the massive hill from the lake to the house, and the fire pit is kind of at an awkward spot. But overall the home was very clean and we loved having a private dock. I would highly recommend this property! We will definitely be staying again!

bad news
Nice place but could use a lot of cleaning and a little repair would go a long way. Found mouse feces in a few places, dried food on the kitchen counter, broken recliner and recliner sofa, opened the fuse box to reset a breaker and the inner panel fell out and nearly hit me on the head. Tie down cleats on the dock were broken. But worst of all my wife and I who slept in the first floor bedroom ended up with bites on our bodies. No one else had any bite marks. Really disappointed.

Unfortunately, the week of this family's stay was when we were away on vacation ourselves. Normally, we personally clean our cabin and have had nothing but praise on the cleanliness. We always appreciate feedback about our hired help and will take this into consideration in future. When we cleaned and inspected prior to our vacation the cleats on the dock were intact. They have since been replaced. We have also replaced the recliner (we had plans to do that anyway and had been looking at new ones; actually the only thing broken was a piece of the handle. the recliner still works perfectly. It's just a bit old). As for the sofa, we will address that issue this week. It does not appear to be broken and we have had no other complaints. On Saturday, we will inspect that, as well. The breaker box has been repaired. I have seen absolutely no mouse droppings, and we routinely have pest control service at our cabin. We do, as does everyone at the lake, have a problem with lady bugs. Perhaps the visitors mistook those for mouse droppings. I sweep them out every time I clean, and the substitute cleaner obviously did not. As for bug bites, we sent our exterminator out today to double check, but we have never had a problem or complaint. Again, we appreciate all feedback as we strive to provide a wonderful experience for all of our guests. We also encourage our renters to call us if there are problems such as these so that we can address them immediately.

Very cozy.
This home is adorable!!! The loft bedroom was a hit with our oldest. The walk to the lake is very challenging. Huge hill to navigate. It was quite exhausting. Once on the lake it is gorgeous especially at night. There is a lot of boat traffic all week. Not good for fishing. There is a floating dock if you want to try fishing & it is deep enough to jump off of. Had fun floating especially with the waves but we didn't catch anything. Neighbors are close but there wasn't anyone there during our stay. It was nice to be able to bring our dogs. Now the not so good stuff... The house needs some minor repairs. The door handle to the upper deck from the loft bedroom was very loose & difficult to lock/unlock. The faucet in the upstairs bathroom was broke. The "bar" for the shelves in the fridge were duct taped to hold food in which did not work. Food fell out if you put it in the door. Freezer was the same way. The ant problem was not so bad. The owner did what they could to prevent it but you're in the woods on a lake. There will be bugs but it wasn't bad. There are not many TV channels to view. However we weren't there to watch TV. We ran out of propane for the grill but the owners responded promptly! Overall it was a good stay. If the minor repairs were taken care of I would give this a 4-5 star rating.

Hi Becky,
Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention! Since your review, we are happy to say that our property has undergone a complete renovation, tackling your concerns and more! We hope we get to accommodate you in the future! Take care.
Nice quiet spot to relax. Would be a great spot to bring a boat and cruise the lake all day and chill there. I would stay again we had a Great time. Thanks Jewel
We had a nice time at Norris Lake. The property is set up for a young family. Beware of the outside stairs and the steep hill to the lake. Ground is uneven on path going down and a twisted ankle is likely if you are not constantly aware. The kitchen has everything you need. A little on the expensive side but overall nice. (Cleaning crew should have cleaned air vent and swept deck.) But the view was great.
We rented this house and I was very happy with it. My only issues are the steps could use some TLC, and the walk to the dock is much steeper than it seems in the pictures. The house was clean and enjoyable. The lake was pristine and we had a great time. We had one heck of a storm one night and lost power, it was up and running in no time, quicker than at my own house.
This home was a perfect vacation. Super close to the water, kitchen is catered for families, and even the internet was great for Norris, ha! We would love to return to this lovely home.
We enjoyed our stay at the A-frame on the lake. We arrived with surprise goodies waiting, which was so sweet. The dock was large but in two sections with plastic flooring and tape covering the gap and was difficult to get onto. A guy came by and said someone would pull it out further into the lake but never did. The decks were large with ample picnic tables and a good grill. One of the three plastic chairs was broken. The rock and concrete stairs are broken as well as dangerous. It was cute inside but rustic. Thank you for the use of your vacation home.
We had six adults and four kids (8-11 years old) at the Norris Jewell and enjoyed the stay tremendously. The house was just the right size for us. Of course a little more space would have been nice, but this house was very cute and cozy for us. We really enjoyed the access to the lake, dock and very peaceful mornings. As other reviewers have mentioned, it’s a pretty long drive to any stores, gas stations and restaurants (about 20 minutes) so make sure you have what you need when you get to the house. Also, if you fill the refrigerator the first day don’t be shocked if the temp goes up and takes a while to cool back down. It will, just be patient. Overall, we loved the place. The kids asked if we could come back next year. 😊
We stayed at the Jewel and enjoyed our time there. Getting to and from the cabin can be a challenge so you'll want to bring as many supplies as possible with you to avoid trips back and forth. It was early in the season but we were able to rent a boat and enjoy the lake and surrounding area. The owners were excellent with communication and accommodations. We had an issue with the dock and there was someone there to fix it same day. Thank you!

My wife and I live about 15 minutes from the property, making it easy to assist guests during their stay. We are very familiar with the area and always happy to offer suggestions about local entertainment and events!
Why they chose this property
We bought this property from parent's estate. Home was built by my wife's father. One of the choice lots in Big Creek one. He was the second person to buy property here and got what is considered the best two lots on the Big Creek site. Sits on a point about midway between Point 7 and 5. 10 minutes by boat from Norris Dam. 7 minutes by boat from Sequoyah Marina, Home of Fire on the Water 4th of July weekend fireworks extravaganza. Convenient to several Marinas, including Sequoyah, Whitman Hollow, and Shanghai. Drive times are Cincinnati 4 hours, Dayton 5 hours, Atlanta 4 hours,
What makes this property unique
Centrally located so it's easy to get to any area of the lake by boat in a reasonable amount of time. Secluded with only three homes on a cul-de-sac. We're the last house at the end of the road. The way the house is situated you can't see any other homes from the upper or lower deck.
