Horse drawn sleigh rides and a snow play area are right here in Fish Camp. Married for 20 years, we have two grown children. Over the years our family and friends have enjoyed everything from holidays to retreats, large celebrations to small quiet getaways in this lovely home. We have busy lives and always enjoy escaping to The Laughing Bear for time away from day to day pressures.

We love the crisp, fresh air of the mountains and sitting out under the trees with morning coffee. Swimming in a crystal clear river on a hot day can't be beat - our favorite swimming hole is about 20 minutes from Fish Camp. Hiking throughout Yosemite is simply fantastic...meadows, wildflowers, waterfalls, wildlife, sunshine - there's nothing like it!
Our home is nestled among tall sequoia trees and whispering pines. In the heat of summer, Fish Camp stays about 10 degrees cooler than the lower elevations - such a relief! The porches and decks expand right out into the yard, There are forest views from every window in the house. Welcome to our extended family - make yourselves at home in our home!
We had a nice stay at the Laughing Bear. The cabin was very comfortable and accommodated 2 families of 4. It was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked for everything we needed to make all of our meals. The decor is adorable and we enjoyed the books and local information that was available. However, we rented this cabin because of its location in reference to the NP and because we were looking for a private and quiet experience away from the crowds. The cabin isn't exactly "nestled in the woods" as described on VRBO. What the description and pictures don't reflect is that it's approx 30-50 feet from the main highway leading to the south Yosemite entrance. Behind the tree line in the picture is the highway! We were looking forward to afternoons/evening being outside and the sound of the traffic was constant, therefore making it a disappointing experience. Sleeping in the upstairs bedroom with the window open was noisy as well. I live in the suburbs of Houston and my own backyard provides more quiet then this cabin. If the proximity of the NP is your priority, then this is a great cabin, but if you are looking for tranquility this cabin isn't really a good choice. Other than the location, we had no other issues.
Had the great pleasure of staying at this residence with a handful of friends this past weekend. In all the trips we have made to the valley, this trip was the best yet! It doesn't get more Yosemite than cooking burgers on the deck while your closest friends cheers and visit around the fire. We took full advantage of the kitchen and all of the utensils it had to offer by cooking dinner every night. The rooms were spacious and cozy_ each with it's own uniqueness. Bits of Yosemite history are peppered throughout the house by way of books, pictures, paintings, and décor to give whoever stays there the full Yosemite experience. Luxury almost does not cut it, this house offers so much to the casual hiker, the avid hiker, or the first timer! The location was perfect. It was only 15 minutes away from Mariposa Grove, and 20 minutes from Oakhurst. With a snow park down the street, and wilderness on all side, there were ample activities for our young group. The parking lot has ample room for 4-5 cars along with additional parking in front of the house. Staying at this beautiful mountain home nestled amongst the pines, with some of my closest friends was one of the more memorable experiences yet. I highly recommend giving this house a stay... it will change the way you look at Yosemite.
I stayed with a party of 9 for 5 nights and we were very comfortable in this beautiful home. The kitchen had every cooking and serving implement that we needed, and we cooked most of our meals on the grill out on the deck. The dining room table was large enough for our entire group to eat together. We enjoyed beautiful evenings on the deck each night after hiking.
This property provided an excellent home base for exploring Yosemite. There is no avoiding the fact that driving in national parks takes time, so we appreciated the fact that we were close to an entrance. We enjoyed the proximity to the Mariposa Grove and its incredible giant redwoods.
As far as the property managers, they were top notch! We noticed that the propane for the grill was low and with a single phone call the propane was replaced the same day. In addition, we appreciated having a brief list of clean-up tasks instead of the usual list of 100 things that are easily overlooked. Finally, our request that the reservation be shortened by a day to allow a side trip in another part of the state was accommodated cheerfully. Thank you so much!
There were plenty of towels, bed linens, soaps and shampoo for everyone. There are even small backpacks and hip packs available for guests, which was very thoughtful.
The only small negatives about this place: 1) there are no bathrooms that aren't accessed via a bedroom. 2) there is a bit of road noise if the windows are open
This property exceeded my expectations and in addition, was an incredible bargain compared to the hotels and other accommodations in the area, especially those in the Yosemite Valley. I would definitely stay again!
My husband and I have rented Laughing Bear with a group of friends on two occasions, once in late summer, another time in early fall. Both times, we had a great experience at the house and also with all of the fun adventures we were able to do from such a comfortable "home base!" Hiking from Glacier Point was incredible...just a short drive away and no traffic jams to contend with...even in August! Fish Camp is a cute town with several places to eat, and there are vintage and antique shops to browse in nearby towns.
The bedrooms at Laughing Bear are very cozy with comfortable beds and linens. It seems as if a lot of attention was paid to every detail considering the in-room stove heaters, private bathrooms, etc. The outdoor decks made for some great "after" parties, with everyone relaxing and sharing their day's adventures. I also was able to gather many beautiful Sugar Pinecones to take home and enjoy during the holiday season; they are just everywhere in the fall.
I would definitely recommend this house for a great get-away and easy access to the majesty of Yosemite! It was a stress-free drive from the central coast of California, through beautiful scenery, and then when the delicious scent of the trees is almost too much to take while trapped in your car, there you are! Laughing Bear is nestled among some of the most beautiful forests the Sierras have to offer. We would love to rent this home again.
This house was an excellent place to enjoy the whole Yosemite experience. We loved sitting out on the decks in the evening under the trees. It was great to be able to borrow a backpack for our little Yosemite walkabout and listening to the "Rat Pack" while cooking dinner was fantastic. Thanks for such a wonderful getaway - we'll certainly be back!
This was the most comfortable "away from home" lodging experience I have ever had. It is elegant without being ostentatious, and truly has a mountain feel. They have everything you could possibly need except for food and personal items (though they provided quite a few of those as well!). We were fortunate to draw straws and get the room with the log bed... though all of the rooms are gorgeous. For this price, I cannot imagine getting anything even close to this level of luxury.
I loved the decks and hanging out in the evening; citronella candles were on hand, so there was no problem with bugs, which in the mountains is saying a lot. And the inside porch is a cozy place to sit and watch the birds and squirrels as well; the evenings can get cool.
The kitchen is open and user-friendly, there are plenty of dishes and pots, glasses, cookware, etc. No need to bring ice, as the fridge has an ice maker.
It is close enough to the Valley floor and Glacier Point that we were able to do hikes at both places (in our two days there) and still come "home" and make a nice dinner... I swear this house is a find!
I will definitely be returning to this mountain paradise; it was very hard to leave!
The south gate of Yosemite National Park is 5 minutes from the front door of our home - this fabulous park is a must see and probably why you are here in the first place. On your way to Yosemite Valley, you should stop in at Wawona. Wawona was a stage coach stop for travelers 'back in the day' and is just 15 minutes from our home - visit the pioneer village and covered bridge! The Mariposa Grove of Big Trees is also about 15 minutes away - these giant trees are some of the oldest living things on our planet.
But that's not all that awaits you here. Fish Camp is also close to the Bass Lake recreation area, Chuckchansi Casino, historic old west towns on Hwy. 49, horseback riding, Sugar Pine Railroad, offroad vehicle trails, antique stores, and museums.
