About Eugenia "Gene" Thornton
We are a retired couple who retired from the military after almost three decades of traveling around the world and living all over the United States. I, Gene, grew up outside Middletown DE, attended Washington College in Chestertown MD before entering the Army in 1973. I did personnel and public affairs. My husband, Don, was a Jersey boy who attended West Point and served in the Infantry with an alternate of Operations and Training. We volunteer for the American Heart Association, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, belong to several philanthropic, veterans, and conservations organizations. My mom passed on in February 2016 (she was on the dance floor of a cruise ship at age 99 when it happened). She wanted me to "make a little rental unit" over my garage to share our property with others. You will be using her dining room table, bed, secretary, and three chairs when you stay with us. You will be honoring her request and I hope you love it here as much as she did!
Eugenia "Gene" Thornton purchased this Studio in 2000
Why Eugenia "Gene" Thornton chose Frederica
We fell in love with our house the moment we saw it because the view of the lake reminded us of the State of Washington where we had once been assigned, yet we were close to our East Coast family. We entertained our mothers, our sisters and their families quite a bit when we first moved here. We spent a lot of love and labor improving the property. But now, the moms have passed on, the sisters have moved on and their families are having families of their own and none of them are nearby. We want to continue sharing our quiet location and beautiful lake with others.
What makes this Studio unique
We were stationed in the Pacific Northwest, as well as New York, DC, Kansas, Germany, Korea and the middle east during Operation Desert Storm. One of our favorite things to do when in the Pacific Northwest was to drive up Mt Rainier or into the Cascade Mountains for a hike. We saw many homes dotted along elevated lakes and always wished we could live in one of those. Then we took a wrong turn while house hunting in Delaware post retirement and put an offer on this house as soon as we saw the lake view. We redid the electric, rebuilt septic, rebuilt the dock, added a deck out back and relandscaped the entryway. In 2015 we rebuilt the garage and added storage in 2016, we converted the storage to the studio we are sharing with you. Sadly, you cannot see but a glimpse of the lake from the unit, but you will be welcome to use the outside of the home as if it were yours and I hope you will join us in celebration of birds, ducks, geese, frogs and if you are lucky, you might see a beaver or an otter while you are here.

Beautiful Relaxing Welcoming
We had such a nice time. Perfect place for my husband and I. Centrally located for numerous activities. Gene is very helpful. Would highly recommend. We hated to leave.
Quiet, peaceful and relaxing!
Gene and Don have a beautiful home and I'm very grateful for their kind hospitality. Our stay was delightful, amazing, and perfect! The studio apartment was the perfect size for my daughter and I, it was so quiet and peaceful. I felt very pampered with the large walk in shower and the fluffy towels. They were so soft. We will definitely be back!
Little slice of heaven!
We truly enjoyed this secluded, very quiet, taken care of and incredibly relaxing hideaway in Frederica! It's tucked in the woods with a beautiful area down by the lake to relax. The charming accommodations are perfect for a couples getaway or for a single person to get away as well. We didn't need to cook while we were there, so not having a stove was not an issue for us. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom is impeccable and the view of the woods is awesome (the fireflies at night were pretty cool as well). If we're ever out that way another time, we would love to stay there again!
Loved it! Quiet and Clean!
My wife and I both loved this place. Very clean and a beautiful quiet location. Communication with the property owner was quick and clear. Highly recommend this place, we would certainly come again. Thank you!
I did not meet this couple in person, but they left some biographical information behind for me which was very nice. Also, my cleaning team RAVED about how clean they left the space.
A classy little number on the lake
If you wanted one word to describe the experience you will have at this residence, it would be CLASS! From the top end furnishings and design of the apartment, to the welcome you'll receive from Jean, it was all high quality. The setting on the lake is second to none and the sleeping experience (very quiet) was the best. We would recommend it highly to anyone who is considering this property. You will be made to feel at home and given generous access to much of the exterior "hardware". We took advantage of the paddle board and canoe every day; just sitting on the dock every day was treat enough. There are many little extra touches that truly make you feel at home. Don't expect to do much cooking as there is only a microwave and refrigerator, but there are dozens of restaurants within 20 minutes or so. Very comfortable beds, great cell/cable service, well equipped (there was even a first aid kit), you really can't go wrong with his one!!
Air Mobility Museum nearby as are many museums and art gallaries in Dover and Historic Homes in Dover and Milford. We have a small Amish community nearby as well. More exciting...NASCAR, Harness Racing, and casinos north and south of us. Famous Ocean Beaches within 45 minutes. Many festivals such as FireFly, Pagan, Beer and Wine Fests. Two breweries within 15 minutes, wineries within an hour. Day trips to Philly, DC, Annapolis, Baltimore very doable. Amish Country bike tour, etc.
