About Eugenia "Gene" Thornton
We are a retired couple who retired from the military after almost three decades of traveling around the world and living all over the United States. I, Gene, grew up outside Middletown DE, attended Washington College in Chestertown MD before entering the Army in 1973. I did personnel and public affairs. My husband, Don, was a Jersey boy who attended West Point and served in the Infantry with an alternate of Operations and Training. We volunteer for the American Heart Association, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, belong to several philanthropic, veterans, and conservations organizations. My mom passed on in February 2016 (she was on the dance floor of a cruise ship at age 99 when it happened). She wanted me to "make a little rental unit" over my garage to share our property with others. You will be using her dining room table, bed, secretary, and three chairs when you stay with us. You will be honoring her request and I hope you love it here as much as she did!
Eugenia "Gene" Thornton purchased this Studio in 2000
Why Eugenia "Gene" Thornton chose Frederica
We fell in love with our house the moment we saw it because the view of the lake reminded us of the State of Washington where we had once been assigned, yet we were close to our East Coast family. We entertained our mothers, our sisters and their families quite a bit when we first moved here. We spent a lot of love and labor improving the property. But now, the moms have passed on, the sisters have moved on and their families are having families of their own and none of them are nearby. We want to continue sharing our quiet location and beautiful lake with others.
What makes this Studio unique
We were stationed in the Pacific Northwest, as well as New York, DC, Kansas, Germany, Korea and the middle east during Operation Desert Storm. One of our favorite things to do when in the Pacific Northwest was to drive up Mt Rainier or into the Cascade Mountains for a hike. We saw many homes dotted along elevated lakes and always wished we could live in one of those. Then we took a wrong turn while house hunting in Delaware post retirement and put an offer on this house as soon as we saw the lake view. We redid the electric, rebuilt septic, rebuilt the dock, added a deck out back and relandscaped the entryway. In 2015 we rebuilt the garage and added storage in 2016, we converted the storage to the studio we are sharing with you. Sadly, you cannot see but a glimpse of the lake from the unit, but you will be welcome to use the outside of the home as if it were yours and I hope you will join us in celebration of birds, ducks, geese, frogs and if you are lucky, you might see a beaver or an otter while you are here.

Piece de resistance!
A lovely getaway nestled in a natural setting under the trees. A path walk away from the blissful lake. I would highly recommend this location for a quiet retreat for singles or couples.
Wish we had more time to enjoy this beautiful place. An extraordinarly peaceful energy here to renew your soul. Everything was sparkling clean and as described. Gene, our host was so helpful from the moment we booked and stopped by for a moment for a brief introduction. Her lovable dog dolly who accompanied her for the brief intro was the perfect "greeter" to welcome our stay. Would definitely recommend.
Hope you can stay longer next visit!
We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Gene was an excellent host and went above and beyond to make sure we had all that we needed. We were sad we didn't get to meet her personally. The studio was immaculate, comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need. The lake was beautiful, peaceful and perfect to relax on after a long day of exploring. We look forward to returning in the next few years and would highly recommend!
beautiful, quiet and a great place to stay.
Clean, quiet, safe and a great lake to use, weather permitting
Lovely Grounds, Owner, & Pets!
Eugenia and the adorable pets were very friendly and welcoming and the room was very comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed swimming (especially our lab) though this time of year the water is a bit overwhelmed with algae. All in all a great stay for my daughter, doggie and me!
Quite impressed with the beauty.
Uugenia was a great host, offering nice places to eat in the area. Our puppy Sophia has a great time playing with Dolley. The furnishings were perfect and comfortable. I would rate this 5/5. We made use of the canoe, paddle board and fishing from the very nice lower deck. It's close enough to drive to the beautiful Delaware beaches without the crowds.

Air Mobility Museum nearby as are many museums and art gallaries in Dover and Historic Homes in Dover and Milford. We have a small Amish community nearby as well. More exciting...NASCAR, Harness Racing, and casinos north and south of us. Famous Ocean Beaches within 45 minutes. Many festivals such as FireFly, Pagan, Beer and Wine Fests. Two breweries within 15 minutes, wineries within an hour. Day trips to Philly, DC, Annapolis, Baltimore very doable. Amish Country bike tour, etc.
