About Robert Heinrich
I am the Caretaker of this very special home. My Daughter and I run the fun here.
Robert Heinrich purchased this Castle in 1995
Why Robert Heinrich chose Gilford
This property is a well kept secret. The original home was built in 1897 as a Grand Victorian Cottage by AV Lincoln, the largest property owner in Charlestown,MA which was at the time the epicenter of Boston. Mr. Lincoln was the real-estate consultant for the railroad, which was booming at the time. Mr Lincoln sighted the home perfectly in such a way that it always is sunlit with the undisputed best view of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee mountains found anywhere.
What makes this Castle unique
Every day is beautiful from The Lincoln Cottage, rain or shine. Watching a weather event from here is alost as good as a sunny day. Everything you need for a home away from home is here at the Lincoln Cottage.

Looking for a magical place? This is it!!
We stayed in this charming home for five nights. The views of the lake are breathtaking and the fireplace was a nice addition to the warmth of this historic home.
The living areas are comfortable and the beds offer a great nights sleep with nice linens and plenty of warm blankets for the cool nights.
The kitchen is just spectacular if you like to cook and comes well equipped with everything you need including a wine chiller, two dishwashers and great lighting as well as a beautiful view of the sky and trees above looking up through the glass ceiling.
The two most spectacular spaces in the house are the wrap around front porch and the game room on the third floor which offers everything from chess to billiards to a run on the drum set and some cords on the electric guitar.... the view from this level will just stop you in your tracks and make you want to step out into the landing forever!!
There are a few large soaking tubs so a bath is a must!!! There is also a large walk-in tiled shower which was a nice experience as well.
This is a home to relax in, enjoy good food with friends and family and a great place to laugh, rest, read or listen to the birds and watch the boats go by or the fog lift off the lake in the morning.
The sunsets were colorful and morning walks are at your fingertips....
We can’t thank Robert, the owner enough for this magical experience. He is the nicest guy who is available at any time should you have a question, want to hear a good story about the history of the house or just want to have a laugh....
We highly recommend this home for your next getaway, wether you are local or traveling to the area... you will definitely not be disappointed!!!
I don't think I've ever had a more thoughtful review. I really enjoyed having this family at my home. The only thing I'd like to note is that both "soaking tubs" are equipped with elaborate hand and onlverhead showers for full functionality.
Thank you once again for coming to stay at the Lincoln Cottage.
Wonderful House and Helpful Host!
We had a wonderful weekend in New Hampshire! The house was fantastic and had everything we needed to enjoy the weekend. Robert was extremely helpful and a great host. Highly recommend!
Huge lake front home - perfect for families!
Roberts property was lovely, it had everything we needed in the huge chefs kitchen. All linens and towels were included, which made travel easier with our family of 14. The boat house (down steep slate steps and across a street) was perfect for our rented boat. You are able to swim at the shore but you enter via the rocks. We didn’t utilize the fire pit although there was plenty of seating and wood available. We needed something during the week and Bob replied quickly and solved our problem. We traveled with 3 children and two teens, the top floor game room made for a perfect place for the family to gather. Close to stores and restaurants and parking for several cars (we had 5.) We had a great week!
Excellent, I'm so glad these folks had a great time. I would however like to clarify that the laterfront lake entrance is over a gently sloping granite ledge with no rocks to avoid or trip over. This is why my lake entrance has been a favorite spot to enjoy access to the lake for over100 years. I have also provided a stiff broom in the event that the gently sloping granite ledge is at all slippery. I just want my future guests to be assured they have a smooth and safe entrance to the lake unlike the jagged rocks I pictured when reading this review. Thanks so much for the 5-Star review, I really appreciate it and look forward to your return next year.
Incredible Property in an incredible area. It’s hard to pick where to start but the view is unbelievable. From the wrap around porch accompanied by rocking chairs and an hammock to the crows-nest look-out at the top of this mansion, you have spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The details in every inch of this property are astounding. The woodwork in every room has enough detail to keep your attention for your entire stay. Details like the trim, the furnishings, the light switches and the fixtures make this property even more special. Upstairs there were two French doors that open up to show off that incredible view with plenty of games to hold your attention once you’re done looking out over the water. The chess table was great, we played on the pool table and had a small kitchen to keep snacks going all night. There was even space to stay the night up there and the favorite bathroom in the house. It had a great open shower and a neat pocket door. One floor lower had a ton of bedrooms and beds, too many to count! Plenty of space for everyone, everywhere! The bathrooms were incredible with claw foot tubs and exposed piping. On the main floor, the kitchen was an all-star with a subzero fridge and full line of professional appliances making it an easy decision to stay in for dinner. When the water calls you’re only feet from the boathouse with enough space to store a couple boats and a bunch of kayaks. There’s also a great sitting area down by the water next to the boathouse. Weirs Beach is right down the street and there’s a ton to do everywhere along the lake. Robert was fantastic and we are already planning our next trip back to this gem on Lake Winnipesaukee!!
Spectacular views, fine Victorian furnishings
We had 4 families stay in the Lincoln Cottage for a week. Wonderful time--enjoyed the front porch, boat house (we rented a pontoon boat) and game room. The kitchen was incredible. Our only issues were the outdoor grill that needs replacing and only one suitable shower on the third floor. The clawfoot tubs make for challenging showers. Robert was a very gracious and helpful host.
Ouch!! I never thought of my home as a “B” Rated home, and I still don’t.
I’m sad that John didn’t mention that one of the two gas grilles provided needed new grilling bars until he had left. Once I was made aware it, it was repaired within 30 minutes. All it took was a quick trip to Lowes for new stainless grilling bars. I wish John had notified me early in his stay.
With respect to the showers; it’s easy to see how my Rain Forest shower makes all others pale by comparison. When restoring a period home it is difficult to find a balance between period charm and modern amenities. Overall, I think I have done a fine job. I get many compliments about how authentic or “real” my home is. Many customers have told me how happy they were to share my home with their children so that they could see the superior craftsmanship and period features of The Lincoln Cottage.
I also get a lot of positive personal compliments noting how much the ladies enjoy soaking in the cast Iron slipper tub. Top quality overhead showers and hand showers are fitted to both claw-foot tubs for modern convenience. These features were a conscious election, not an afterthought. Thanks for reading and letting me respond.
Excellent host, excellent location.
Robert was a prompt host, he gave an thorough tour and offered many amenities. After he checked us in, he gave us our space and we had a great weekend! Recommended the location to my parents who will also be looking into a weekend here.
The third floor game room offered an amazing view of the lake, I cannot even imagine how perfect it would be for the summer with the large double doors that open and allow the air to come in.
I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking.
Wow, I only wish all my guests were so neat. These finevyoung men even cleaned the ashes out of the fireplace. That is a first. I would be elated if either they or their families wish to enjoy my home, The Lincoln Cottage.
