Warm and inviting

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway. It rained the whole time we were there so we didn't really get to do all the outdoors stuff we wanted to do. That was fine by us though, I got the fire roaring the entirety of our stay. We just sat around relaxing all weekend. We really loved the feel of the living room with its giant windows overlooking the river. It was very peaceful. The all wood interior really makes for a great relaxing atmosphere. It was very inviting.

Great getaway and conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 adults stay comfortably with one each on air mattresses (8 can fit on the beds). William was a great host, very prompt with responses and allowed a small dog to come as well. It was cozy and had a great view of the river. The firepit was amazing and there were enough chairs. They supplied firewood and we made smores; it was a very relaxing night with the river next to us and the firepit. The grill was also great too and we enjoyed grilling for dinner one night. The kitchen is well equipped! One night we pitched a tent along the river and by the firepit; it was a nice with the flowing water in the background and a few stars above that weren't covered by clouds.

The cabin is also conveniently located - about a half hour drive to Mackinaw City and the Headlands International Dark Sky Park. We were hoping to catch the meteor showers but it was raining/too cloudy both days. There is also a fun putt putt golf just north in town near the I-75 310 exit.

The cabin was really damp the first day since it was raining, really humid and the windows were open when we arrived. The carpet and even the bedsheets were wet but once we turned on the heat before going to bed it became comfortable to sleep in. Wifi is weak and I did not have service from Verizon at the cabin, so expect to use this as a getaway and not be connected.

We would be happy to return again if the cabin is available, and would recommend it to others!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review. Unfortunately our internet choices are limited to satellite due to the remote location. I hear rumors that our road will be wired in the next couple years, so everyone is looking forward to that. We've contacted Verizon about the poor reception. They claimed it's due to "line of sight" and therefore are unable to improve it. However, we did get a regular telephone hooked up just this week. The dampness is really unavoidable this time of year because we're located in the woods and down in a river valley. Our cleaning lady opens the windows when a guest is arriving just to air out the stuffiness. We're considering getting air conditioning which should improve it. Thanks again for staying!

we survived the sturgeon

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the chalet. It was so charming with a vintage style. The knotting wood in the home was gorgeous. It was so clean and cozy. The river was beautiful. We floated and fished every day. We took our golden retriever and he loved it as well. The owner was very prompt at getting in touch with us. Our family needed this hideaway. We will be back. The hammock.. Oh the hammock.... Richard, Michelle, Cameron and Drew Thompson. Birch Run, Mi.

survived the sturgeon

  • 5 of 5

It was absolutely beautiful. The cabin was clean and cozy. We tubed down the river and fished. We had our golden and he loved swimming. Watching the canoers etc while sitting on patio or couch and firepit was so neat. The inside was retro so that was neat, but with a nice flat screen and a sweet updated shower head. We will miss the mighty sturgeon and thank you to the owner. We will be back!!
