Seven Oaks Retreat is much more than a vacation rental, it is our dream home in Santa Barbara that we love to share with our special guests.
Isa Hendry-Eaton purchased this house in 2012
Our home has been completely remodeled in 2012, is ultra-private, yet only minutes away from downtown and the beach. We keep our property sparkling clean and impeccably maintained, employing weekly gardeners and a professional housekeeping crew.
"We had an amazing stay at Seven Oaks and were very happy with the house. We have been traveling and renting houses in the US now for many years and never had found such a beautiful and tastefully furnished and decorated place. The colors and pictures are so beautiful. The garden and the magic trees were worth a stay by themselves. The level at which the house is appointed is such a pleasure. From the sharp knives and the entire cooking equipment in the kitchen, to the quality of the towels and linens, the amazing choice of nice toys for the children and the number of the beach toys, the access to the washer and dryer. We also found the beds very comfortable. There was even a nice welcome bag left for us. We all agreed that we would move into this house immediately!
The location of the house is a big plus, since the nights there a incredibly quiet, that the proximity to the canyon gives you warm evenings that you can spend on the terrace or in the garden to do star gazing (we saw some incredible shooting stars) and makes for sunnier and warmer days. Also the architecture of the house with its large windows, the green surroundings combined with your decor and furnishing and the weather create such a light filled, calming and cheerfully welcoming atmosphere that everybody in our party felt immediately at ease and on vacation upon entering the house. I would say it was one of the nicest vacations we have had in the past years and the house and location played a big part in that."
This lovely home is nestled among herbal gardens and towering trees. The home's four bedrooms and two gathering areas can accommodate a large family. The harvest table easily sits 10 people for dining. There is a warm and comfortable atmosphere that permeates each room. Our family had the perfect reunion here as were gathered together from around the country. It truly felt like "home"!!
My family still talks about what a wonderful, unique house this is! We rented it for the week around our daughter's graduation from UCSB in June, wanting a place that would allow us to all stay together, have a graduation party and be in a great location. Seven Oaks exceeded our expectations. The beautiful setting feels serene and secluded, yet it's just minutes away from downtown Santa Barbara and only about 20 minutes to the campus. The numbers in our group ranged from just my husband and I, to 13 on the night of the graduation barbecue. The house easily accommodated that number and parking was not a problem, fitting eight vehicles that evening. The house itself is absolutely gorgeous, the attention to detail amazing, yet I never worried about the children in out group breaking things as it is a very kid friendly home. The "great room" upstairs and the kitchen/dining/fireplace room downstairs were perfect gather spots for everyone. The kitchen is large and stocked with everything needed for large gathering with a great BarBQ outside, off the laundry room. My two favorite areas were what I called the daybed deck and "fishbowl/fern room". The daybed deck was where I found myself the most often; enjoying a book, napping and recharging. (Gotta admit, we jokingly tried to figure out a way to get that beautifully unique daybed home with us!). The cozy "fishbowl" room (so-called, because of the two glass walls, that at night allow everyone to see in and in the daytime makes one feel like you're in the middle of a fern grotto), is such a beautiful, comfortable area that I frequently found everyone perched on every available surface. I just realized I hadn't mentioned the outdoors! What a magical setting! From the small, intimate seating areas that were just like little vignettes, the larger seating areas, the trampoline, tire swing, garden, lush landscaping...wow, what a paradise!
This was a special time for us and I'm so glad we got to experience it while staying at Seven Oaks Retreat. Our memories of that time will always be colored by what a truly welcoming, beautiful home we were lucky to have found. I would definitely recommend this wonderful oasis to anyone! Thank you Isa!
We echo everything shared by other reviewers. Secluded from the city yet right on top of it at the same time. 5 minutes from an amazing hike, only 10 minutes from the ocean. Lovely home only matched by how pretty the outdoor setting and amenities were. We were a family of six - two kids (ages 2 and 9), two 40 something's and two 60 something's - and all of us felt comfortable never leaving the property on certain days. Darryl and Isa made themselves very available by phone / text and made excellent recommendations for our time in Santa Barbara.
We rented this property July 9-15, 2016. We were on a family vacation and had two families. The house has two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs, which worked well for each family to have their own space. The kitchen is beautiful and big enough for several people to cook together. The outside is very pretty and so peaceful to sit out on the patio in the morning with your coffee. My grandsons loved the trampoline and the zip line. The home was very clean and well stocked with towels soap, shampoo and other necessities. The kitchen is also well stocked with utensils, although we could have used a few more steak knives. My children enjoyed the nearby hiking, and the beach is a very close drive. The upstairs playroom was great for the kids. The owners were very accommodating and easy to work with. We had a lovely stay and look forward to coming back. My only suggestion would be that a high chair and pack and play for babies would be very nice. Thank you for sharing your lovely home!
We spent the perfect week long summer vacation at Isa's amazing home! We are a group of 10 with children ages 2-7. No time to be bored with all the amenities. Absolutely perfect home for a relaxing, family-friendly vacation! Close to everything Santa Barbara has to offer but with the best rural feel. We hope to be back year after year!!
I meant to leave a review a LONG time ago...better late than never ;) Our family of 7 stayed here last summer, which included kids ages 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. Upon arrival, everything was perfectly clean and stocked. Lots of basic necessities, plenty of clean towels and sheets, even coolers and chairs for the beach. My kids would run upstairs and play in the great room for a while, and then take off outside to play in the grassy yard or take turns on the swing and trampoline. They were never bored! We went to the beach a couple of times which was a short drive away, as well as the zoo. And the garden area was so lovely! The only suggestion I would make would be to include curtains on all the bedroom windows for more privacy. Other than that, the place was perfect. Definitely straight out of a magazine. We would stay again if we have the chance. Thank you!
Mission Canyon is rich in Santa Barbara history, and a section of the century-old Mission aqueduct still exists on the property. You can also catch a glimpse of Cathedral Peak from the lawn - looking up one of the most dramatic canyons in the Santa Ynez mountains. Hikers will love the easy access to some of the best trails the area has to offer, including Rattlesnake, Seven Falls, and Inspiration Point trails. Cyclists might try the nearby famous Gibraltar Climb, called the 'Alp d'Huez of North America' by some, or can choose easier routes along Mountain Drive - complete with Channel Island views. Naturalists will enjoy a quick walk through the Botanic Gardens nearby. City and beach goers will appreciate that this seclusion is only minutes from downtown and some of the beast beaches and surf spots in the world. While there is a bus going to the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens on the weekend, you will need a car during the week. There are parking spots for up to four cars. This is also bike-able location - only 15 minutes to and from downtown.
