About Doug Calvey

My wife and I are both from large families that annually get together for family vacations. We designed High Peaks House with group entertainment and flexible sleeping to create a fun and comfortable reunion experiences. We enjoy skiing, hiking, kayaking and love the High Peak scenery.

Doug Calvey purchased this house in 2013

Why Doug Calvey chose Lake Placid

Hillcrest is a quaint old-fashioned neighborhood in downtown Lake Placid. You can walk to the Olympic Arena, the public beach on Mirror Lake. Kids as well as adults can walk downtown to shop, walk around Mirror Lake or go to the Palace movie theater. There are lovely views of the mountains and glimpses of Mirror Lake.

What makes this house unique

Large groups and family can celebrate anniversaries, birthdays and special occasions dining together with seating for over 24.

The kitchen is set up to feed a crowd with two ovens, two dishwashers and servingware for 24.

Family and friends can play volley ball, pool, poker, ping pong or just relax around fireplace.

Gorgeous home, extremely well kept, walking distance from town.

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting homes for the holidays for over 18 years, our children and grandchildren spend Christmas and New year with us, the High Peaks house has been by far the best home we ever rented, our family is growing and it has the space for the adults and for the children, not only beautifully decorated with refined taste, but also impeccably clean, very well maintained and with everything a large family needs, the kitchen has every appliance and gadget, pot or pan that you can dream of to prepare meals for a large crowd, two ovens and two dishwashers making cooking and cleaning up much easier. The house has all the amenities , pool table, ping-pong table, cards table, sleds for the children, nice quiet spaces for the ones that want to relax or read, The location is perfect, walking distance from the beautiful town, a shuttle stops in the corner of the house to go to White face mountain for the ones that ski, it is the perfect house to have family reunions or any other group gathering. We highly recommended to people that like comfort, have good taste and want to choose the best place for their reunion.

Really great place for a get together including different age groups!

  • 5 of 5

Very large commune spaces, modern, clean, confortable, beautiful house. Had a get together with 5 couples and whole lot of kids from 5 to 16. Everybody enjoyed their week end and we all hope to be back soon. A spa would be awesome!

Unforgettable Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This experience was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. We could not be any happier with our choice and are sure to return for a future visit. The home accommodated my family, my parents, my 4 siblings and each of their families. There was plenty of space and no one ever had to wait for a bathroom or didn't have a place to sit. The house was wonderfully maintained and very clean. It was stocked with anything we could have wanted. There were two coffee makers, two toasters, two ovens and two dishwashers. Everyone was able to eat at the same time and clean up was a breeze with the second dishwasher. The location of the house is perfect. The hill was challenging for a few but otherwise it is within easy walking distance of Main Street and Mirror Lake with the Olympic Skating Oval and Olympic Ice Rink right down the road. Anything that was not within walking distance was a short drive away. The owners were wonderful to work with and responded quickly to all communication. They also were very understanding and worked with us when a teen in our party inadvertently caused some damage we were unaware of until after we left. My parents have not stopped talking about this trip. It meant the world to us and this house was a huge part of it. Thank you so much!

This is a beautiful house that is in the perfect location. Terrific for both winter and summer vacations in the most amazing setting! This house accommodates very large groups easily. There is so much to do in the area and this house is central to all activities in and around lake placid.

I highly recommend this house and the owners and staff are wonderful to work with.

This home is absolutely fabulous. The kitchen is a dream to cook in and very well organized, not missing a thing. Plenty of spots to hide if you need some quiet time. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Just a few steps to Main Street We will be back.

Perfect in Lake Placid!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house to celebrate a 50th birthday and participate in the adult pond hockey tournament in Lake Placid. This house was PERFECT for our group. Plenty of gathering space to socialize, and enough space for everyone to escape for a bit when they needed a break from the crowd. The house is walking distance to the main street in Lake Placid (including all shops, bars, restaurants, the lake, the Olympic oval and the arena). The proximity to town allowed people to enjoy both the house and the town on their own schedule, including teenagers who could easily walk to town on their own. The kitchen is stocked with absolutely every thing you will ever need. The two dishwashers and two ovens were a great asset with a large group. The house is exactly as pictured. The hockey players in the group were most excited about the "gear drying room" which is a huge closet off the mudroom with heated fans. They were able to dry their gear between games. The owners recommended a place to provide dinner for our big crowd. (Villa Vespa - highly recommended!) Derrick is the local caretaker and was extremely responsive to our needs. If you have a large group - look no further. This is the house for you.
