About Doug Calvey

My wife and I are both from large families that annually get together for family vacations. We designed High Peaks House with group entertainment and flexible sleeping to create a fun and comfortable reunion experiences. We enjoy skiing, hiking, kayaking and love the High Peak scenery.

Doug Calvey purchased this house in 2013

Why Doug Calvey chose Lake Placid

Hillcrest is a quaint old-fashioned neighborhood in downtown Lake Placid. You can walk to the Olympic Arena, the public beach on Mirror Lake. Kids as well as adults can walk downtown to shop, walk around Mirror Lake or go to the Palace movie theater. There are lovely views of the mountains and glimpses of Mirror Lake.

What makes this house unique

Large groups and family can celebrate anniversaries, birthdays and special occasions dining together with seating for over 24.

The kitchen is set up to feed a crowd with two ovens, two dishwashers and servingware for 24.

Family and friends can play volley ball, pool, poker, ping pong or just relax around fireplace.

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of this house don't do it justice, it is beautiful. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable. We had 3 families staying in the house with young adults and small children. There was plenty of space for everyone, 2 game rooms, lots of becdrooms and baths, very large kitchen with everything a large group could possibly need. We really enjoyed the large front porch , the picnic style tables on back porch for dining and badminton. I highly recommend this home and hope we are lucky enough to visit Lake Placid again. Lake Placid is a great vacation destination with many activities for all ages! Donna couldn't have been nicer and very helpful with any question! Melonie

Owner's Response: Thanks Melonie! Your family was so fun to host. And Derek, our caretaker, really enjoyed interacting with such a gracious Southern family, sharing fishing & hiking tips. Kudos to you for exploring the country through annual family reunions. We hope you keep up this tradition and someday return to Lake Placid:)

Great size, owners, location and details!

  • 5 of 5

This rental is in a great location for access to downtown Lake Placid! It's perfect for gathering extended family yet giving everyone their own space. The kitchen with 2 dishwashers and 2 ovens makes it easy to cook and clean up for large numbers. Great yard for family fun too! I have already suggested it to other families!!

This house is amazing, and the owners were such a pleasure to work with. Our son was getting married, so we were looking for the ideal home to rent for us and several of our friends flying in from Texas. We wanted a nice home that we could also use to socialize with people arriving for the wedding. This house was the perfect choice. It had plenty of room on three different levels, two different game rooms, plenty of sleeping capacity, beautiful outdoor decks on two levels, convenient parking with a driveway and multi-car garage, just a short walk from the Crown Plaza Hotel, where other friends were staying, decorated with amazing taste and looking in brand new condition. The kitchen was beautiful, with a huge center island with much seating that became our late night place to have a glass of wine with friends and visit. Everyone that stopped by the house to visit were amazed and commented on the house. Donna, the owner, gave us great recommendations for some hiking in the area, and we are already thinking about a reunion in Lake Placid to tackle more of the hiking and peaks. When we return, this is the house we will plan to use as our home away from home. Thanks Donna and Doug for helping to make our son and daughter-in-law's wedding an amazing week with many beautiful memories.

The sixteen of us who stayed in this beautiful place could probably go on and on and on! about how incredible this property is in terms of accommodating such a large group and having literally everything you could ever need. I don't think there's anything the property owners haven't considered. There is lots of comfortable common area space, but also room to get away if you need to escape for some peace & quiet (as might be necessary when prepping for IRONMAN).

The beds are super comfy, the kitchen incredibly well equipped, and the organization & attention to detail is top-notch.

The location is pretty ideal, too. While there is a hill to walk, the house is very close to the downtown area (and my 75 yr old ma didn't have trouble w/the hill, so you can do it, too! :) )

I can't imagine a better accommodation for a large group meeting in beautiful Lake Placid.

THANK YOU, Donna!!
