About Laurie Morley
We built this cabin in 1982 and have been enjoying it ever since! It has been the perfect family spot. However, because we do not get a chance to use it as much as we would like to, we look at this as an opportunity to share our home away from home with others.
Laurie Morley purchased this Cottage in 1982
Why Laurie Morley chose St. Ignace
We love St. Martin's Bay! We love that this 'secluded' location is still only 2 miles from the expressway (I-75) and within 20 minutes of St. Ignace and Cedarville! We love that you can bring your ATV's out here and not have any issues (and be right next to some of the best trails in the EUP). We love that the cottage is off the beaten path and that it's not 'Too nice' to stay in, but rather, 'very comfortable'. Mostly, we love that one can be as active or inactive as they want! This is the perfect spot for your 'all girls weekend', your 'guys trip' or your family vacation!
What makes this Cottage unique
There are so many things to see and do in this area! But, knowing that you can leave from the cottage on an ATV, a bicycle or in a car and be able to hit a trail or a main highway is a very unique thing! So, why not take advantage of the opportunity to stay at the 'VanKamp' and make your own opinions! Being so close to the area attractions is an added bonus!

We loved this cabin! It was the perfect size for our six-adult, two-kid family. We had lovely mornings sitting outside drinking coffee and enjoying the sights and sounds of Lake Huron. It was a very peaceful place. The fireplace was welcome too as a few evenings it got cold. The sauna was a lovely amenity. We certainly enjoyed that as well. Everything was stocked wonderfully!
A very beautiful cabin on that lake that offers an escape from daily stress
The experience was everything we hoped for. We spent a lot of family time in a relaxing environment that was perfect. We spent time inside watching movies together as well as taking the paddle boat and canoe out for a swim. An awesome experience where many memorable memories were made.
We are so glad you enjoyed your time! Your explanation on your vacation is the exact reason we open up our cottage to others!
We hope to have you back!
From the moment I stepped in the door I felt at home. Was very comfortable. Beautiful views.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We want everyone who stays to feel at home!
Hope to have you stay again!
Beautiful view! Spacious cottage
Beautiful lakeside cabin
We had a great time. We were fortunate to have good weather and enjoyed building fires and drinking hot chocolate while taking pictures of sunsets. Great central location for day trips to Sault Ste. Marie, Paradise and Mackinac.
Nice roomy cottage in peaceful location.
We had a good time during our stay. The location is great if you want to visit near by attractions like Mackinaw island, the The THQ Falls, the dunes on lake Michigan or Pictured Rocks. The beds in the cottage are comfortable and the cottage is nicely decorated. We also appreciated good quality cotton sheets in our master bedroom. If you like to take strolls along the shore this place is not for you. There is no walking space along the water. The water level is shallow and you need to go far into the lake if you want to swim, which is good if you have young children. Bring the water shoes for little kids. The lake has sandy bottom but you need to go about 30 meters to reach the end of pier and get to the sand and the pier is slippery. The neighbors on the left were very friendly and helpful. My boys took a canoe to see a sunken ship to the left of the cottage. The cottage doesn't have a wifi and the TV signal was often in and out and then completely gone for one night, so not much TV either, which was a bit disappointing as it was during Olympics. There were plenty of books and games in the cottage. The kitchen also had everything you need. It's a lovely place overall.
The 'VanKamp' is located on St. Martin's Bay (Lake Huron), only about 2 miles from I-75 (Exit #359) about 15 miles from downtown St. Ignace, 15 miles from downtown Hessel, 15 miles from downtown Rudyard, about 17 miles from Cedarville, about 45 miles from Downtown Sault Ste. Marie and about 60 Miles from Tahquamenon Falls. It is a great spot for a relaxing vacation, where you will also be within an hour of some of the EUP's finest attractions!
