About Susan Metzger
I am an artist and teacher. When I moved to Colorado from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Hugo, I looked at a lot of houses. I fell in love with this one immediately and felt extremely lucky to purchase this home in 1991. I've always loved old houses - and my artwork is of historic architecture.
Susan Metzger purchased this Bungalow in 1991
Why Susan Metzger chose Palisade
When I married 9 years ago, I couldn't give up this house, I had spent years planting roses and exotic plants - and it had lots of happy memories. When I moved in, the house had the original wooden shingle roof covered with moss, and the original wiring. I only had 6 outlets! I sadly redid the roof in 2002 when it started to leak, and I had the wiring redone and added an outlet in the bathroom in 1997. My mother is in her 80's and if she decides to move to Colorado, I want her to be able to move into this wonderful place where you can walk to the grocery, library. post office and bakery.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Few of the houses in Palisade have as many original features. Sash windows, pine floor, high ceilings, wooden pantry. The entry to the basement is a trap door. And a bubble bath in the original clawfoot bathtub has been a constant pleasure. Enjoy a quiet old fashioned pace of life.

Another lovely stay!
This was our second time staying here and it was wonderful again. The two bedrooms easily accommodated two couples, the living room is super comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The shower/tub is super easy to use (not sure why people complain about this?!) and the location is great. We will definitely return next summer. :)
I’m so glad you had a good return visit. And we got a laugh when you displayed the Halloween dinosaur skeletons! We’ll make sure it’s on display on the hutch for you next year.
Lovely home in the heart of CO wine country
The house was a beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bath in Palisade. We were in close proximity to CO wine country (about a 10 minute drive), which offers wine of all varieties and second to none. The house did not have internet or television which offered my family some great time away from electronics and allowed us to connect. The house also came with everything you need to make your own meals (oven or stove). Additionally, we were allowed to bring our dog. She loved the walk at Riverbend Park (which I would highly recommend, only a 10 minute walk away itself) and enjoyed the ability to be part of her first family vacation. The owner was great to work with and the check-in / check-out went seamlessly.
We will definitely be back to this home for yearly vacations!
Thank you for the lovely review and the care you took of our house. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay. Also I’m happy that your pet could be part of your get away. We love taking our dogs places and are glad to offer that opportunity to visitors.
We’ll be glad to see you return next year!
Wonderful home to stay at!
Susan is a wonderfully nice lady! She left us fresh picked cherries for our visit and even offered to let us use her own home shower since the road construction was taking place! This house is very comfortable and the back yard is AMAZING! We look forward to staying there again in the future.
Thank you. I’m so glad you had a good time - we’ll look forward to your return next year when the road construction is over!
Enjoyable step back in time
Clean and comfortable home. We loved being able to walk downtown. SItting on the front porch rockers and reading was very peaceful. The back yard has a trellis covered patio which could be a joy to spend an entire evening at if it had comfortable chairs. No TV and no internet; but we aren't media addicted, so that was fine. The air conditioners weren't in the window yet, so my allergies were going crazy as we had to keep the windows open to keep it cool. In spite of these things, it was such a comfortable home that we would gladly stay there again.
Charming house with a beautiful relaxing yard!
It's more spacious than it looks from the outside. Just a heads up, no shower in this rental, only a tub. It's cute and fits perfectly with the house but I would have liked to be able to shower. The owners were fabulous and very easy to work with. Thanks so much for your hospitality Susan!
I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay - and thanks so much for the great clean-up.
Wondferful quaint house!!
This house was close to everything and suited us well for our Palisade weekend. I had read in the reviews that some didn't like the claw footed bathtub and handheld shower attachement, but we loved it! Very unique and truly takes you back to another era; which staying in a house that is 102 years old should do. We are already planning our return trip next year.
I'm so glad you had a good time and enjoyed the tub! For me it was a selling point when I bought the house in 1991.
We look forward to your return.
Palisade is famous for peaches, and is the center of Colorado Wine Country. Agritourism abounds - visit fruit and lavender farms, tour wineries in town and on East Orchard Mesa, high above the Colorado River. In town visit our Blue Pig Art Gallery,Palisade Brewery, Peachtree Distillery. Cycle along the Bike trail that follows the Colorado River or ride the country roads among the orchards.
