High ceilings will greet you through the front entrance where original bead board walls whisper stories from the distant past and restored yellow pine floors pave the way to a more contemporary present. We have brought together period elements from the coal mining era joining them with contemporary colors and modern amenities. Remnant artifacts salvaged from the house during its recent renovations are on display accompanied by vintage black and white photos of the era.
The ground floor offers two bedrooms. The one directly to your left upon entering, features a classic full size wrought iron bed dressed in quilts with two lamps and nightstands, armoire and river views. The room to your right boasts a sunny disposition arrayed in hues of red and green. Its companions are an ornate metal queen size bed, ceiling fan, closet and comfortable chairs. Continue down the hall into the open Dining Room which is centrally located and acts as a hub for the whole household to gather between the Living Room and Kitchen. For the musically inclined, there is upright piano dating back to the early 1940’s and a large country table with pullout extensions to comfortably seat 10 people. Additional seating can be found at the breakfast bar.
The Kitchen is equipped with microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, gas cook stove, antique country sink and drain board and ceiling fan/light. Glass sliding doors separate the kitchen from a private back deck with patio set and a private backyard view.
You’ll be right at home in the spacious Living Room with sloped ceiling and hardwood floors, leather couch, and loveseat. An oak armoire entertainment center houses a TV and DVD Player. One of the most unique features of this home is the large antique oak pocket doors at your disposal to close off the Living Room if more privacy is needed. On the opposite side of the house is a Laundry Room with washer and dryer, clean tile floors and laundry table. This room leads to another full bathroom with full size tiled shower.

About Sherry Hubbard
We originally moved here for the whitewater and we're still here because of the magnetism of the mountains, rivers and streams. West Virginia is our mountain getaway everyday!
Why Sherry Hubbard chose Moatsville
Parts of the guest house date back to the early 1900's during the coal mining era when tracks of the B & O Railroad line ran directly through the community of Arden. Since those days, an extensive renovation and many amenities have been added to make a comfortable yet historic guest house. It's a great spot to gather with friends and family since you have the run of the place. It sleeps 10-12 easily and there are plenty of central gathering areas to spend time together.
What makes this House unique
Situated on the river with views from every bedroom and the front porch. It's a lovely out of the way place to catch your breath and enjoy the mountain air. Period elements from the early 1900's are still preserved in the home including original pine floors and beadboard walls along with relics from the coal mining era.

Our experience was enjoyable. The location enabled us to explore the region, relax and attend the main event, WVU commencement.
The accommodations allowed three families, (5 adults and 2 small children) to have joint and private time. The historical aspect of the home, the sounds of the river, the waterfall down river and the views from the porch were more than we imagined. The kitchen and dining areas were spacious.
The owners were welcoming and attentive. We truly felt part of the community with the friendliness of the people, a true characteristic of WV.
Even though it was fully disclosed, the lack of cell phone reception was a bit of an adjustment for the techies in the group; WIFI was a satisfactory alternative. This is definitely a location for going off the grid. The pastures and river will soothe the soul.
Better than expected
The house was perfect for us .... and actually bigger than anticipated. The only thing I would change is the description of the kitchen to include a crockpot, coffee maker, and waffle maker so that we could’ve brought items to make waffles and did not bring our own coffee pot & crockpot. Also it would be great if the games and cards would be updated as we were snowed in the entire week.
nice and relaxing
We stay Tygart river guest house on Feb 16~ Feb 18.
First, we are arrived 7pm after sun goes down, it was hard to find the vacation house. we are highly recommend to be there before the dark. after we find the house, we have really enjoy our weekend get out. the house is very clean and they have everything we need for.
next day, there were two dogs(black and brown color). We thought it's from owners house, but we were not sure. anyway they are very friendly. Our kids and even I petting them.
We have enjoy the drive around with our trucks. they have fun road to drive. I think it was perfect to ride truck(i have wrangler).
We hope we have little better weather, but we enjoy whole time when we stay. Also when we were back home, we passing by beautiful snow town. It was lucky we got little snow overnight.
Thank alot Sherry. We really had a great time.
I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves! It was a very wet weekend and I think it's great you didn't let that stop you from getting outside to have some fun and explore the mountain roads in your truck. :-) There's always something to get into no matter what the weather! I am continually in awe of seeing the river when it's so big and powerful - a sight to see! Oh, and I agree it is always a great idea to get in before dark when you're unfamiliar with the area. Google maps can bring folks in some very creative ways for sure! Having a printout of directions is handy just in case and you can always call us if you're not sure.
Thank you leaving the house in such great condition. Please come and visit again soon!
New Years Eve
A bunch of friends and myself were looking for a place to get out of the city and spend quality time together. The River house was just what we were looking for. Was a great way to start 2018.
Very clean and well-maintained property with great amenities
Sherry is highly attentive to all the important details; the house was super clean and wonderfully decorated. It is well-appointed with comfortable furniture and has everything, in terms of kitchen gear, etc., that most renters would need. We very much enjoyed our stay at this property!!!
Another great weekend at Tygart River House
This was the fourth or fifth time we have rented this lovely home on the Tygart River for our college gang's reunion site. The house is great for a large group (thus year we only had 4 but have had 6-7 in the past). Sherry, the owner who lives next door, is always accomodating and will even have firewood delivered if requested. We know we will be back again!!!!
Arden on the Tygart River is a largely undiscovered treasure in North Central, WV. It has transformed from booming coal mining town in the early 1900's to a beautiful getaway. If you enjoy escaping to the mountains, scenic whitewater rivers with breathtaking waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain biking or just getting away from it all, this is an ideal place to visit!
