We are a family with two very active teenage boys and we live in a town just north of Houston, TX called The Woodlands. We began going to Kauai in about 2005 and absolutely fell in love with it on the first trip! We love spending our summers on the island hiking, snorkeling, surfing and relaxing on the beach!
Larissa Bonner purchased this condo in 2013
Kiahuna Plantation is a gorgeous property on one of the best beaches on the island! It is walking distance to several restaurants and great shopping center.
Kiahuna Plantation is the only beach-front condo property in Poipu and our unit has some of the best views right from the living room! The lanai is the perfect place to watch the surfers in the summer and the whales in the winter!
We were so happy to have such a nice place to stay in Poipu. The condo was very comfortable for our family of 4 (2 adult sons). It was close to the beach, set amid beautiful gardens. Everything we needed to prepare breakfast was available. Owner was easy to work with. We definitely recommend a stay at this lovely condo!
This condo is in a perfect location. The beach is so close that you can sit on the balcony and watch the surfers. There is a large grassy area with a grill next to the condo. We had a great time grilling and playing frisbee. You can walk across the street to great restaurants, shops and a place to get some groceries. The property is immaculate. There are beautiful flowers, lush greenery and lilly ponds everywhere. Right down the beach is great snorkling. A turtle came up off the beach while we were there!
We had 6 people with us and had plenty of room. You can sleep with the windows open and fall asleep to the sound of waves. The owners have thought of everthing. There are beach items such as boogie boards and a cooler. There are also board games and a large variety of books. Can't wait to go back and stay here!
Our family of five had a great stay here. We were there 8 nights with our three children. The kitchen and baths had just been redone and the condo was well-maintained. We cooked a lot with outdoor grills on the property and had a lot of soccer and kickball games on the giant lawns throughout the property. We would definitely return. The condo had a great location, it was really well-stocked and very clean. The only thing we would change is the super soft matress in the master. Another advantage of the condo is the membership to the athletic club. The property itself does not have a pool, so access to the great one at the AC is a great bonus.
This condo is a bit far from the main lodge and the walk to the beach, but not that big of a deal. The views from the balconies are amazing! Sitting with a cup of coffee watching waterfalls, majestic mountains, and stunning ocean is a treat.
The apartment is well furnished and has the "extra stuff" that you will need: boogie boards, tennis racquets, beach chairs, etc. Beds are comfy and it really has everything you need (including laundry). Nothing but good to say about this. Only downside (sort of) is that it is on the 3rd floor, so schlepping bags up is not great but no big deal
The resort itself is charming. The restaurant and bar is still under construction (which seems to have been a LONG time). But looks like it will be amazing when finally done.
The staff are either very nice, or short and rude. Really depends on the person. Inconsistent.
My family spent part of our two week Christmas holiday on Kauai in this spacious two level ocean view condo. We could not have been more delighted. From the comfortable bedrooms, including a large master suite with lanai. To the incredibly convent washer and dryer. A 2nd floor open living room/kitchen, which is set up for perfect family time. The kitchen was well stocked, including spices, for all our cooking needs. We took full advantage of the comfortable living room furniture, especially the lazy boy recliners, and enjoyed dining and lounging on the huge upstairs lanai.
The grounds of the Kiahuna Plantation are stunning, especially the orchid garden, steps from the condo front door. We loved the easy walking distance to several restaurants, shops, quick market and Starbucks. We also enjoyed lazy afternoons swimming, lounging, eating and drinking at the Poipu Beach Athletic Club. But the best part of the vacation was boogie boarding steps from our condo on Poipu Beach.
We have booked through VRBO over 10 times with repeated stays at a couple of places. Our experiences with VRBO have all been very positive until this one. My biggest complaint is that we had cockroaches. Our family has traveled to Hawaii 7 times now and we have never seen a cockroach before this trip (I had actually never seen one alive in my life before this trip). The owner said that cockroaches are common on the islands and a "nuisance" at this resort, but I have never experienced that in any condo/hotel in Hawaii ever before. We did not even feel like we could cook here because of the roaches we saw in the kitchen. The property managers told us that they would be happy to move us to another unit (they spray all the units regularly to try and avoid this problem) IF we had booked with them. Since we booked through the owner, they said there was nothing that they could do but call the exterminator for 2 days later.
Also, the view in the photo from the condo in this listing is deceptive as it shows the beach, but they cropped out the parking lot that is right in front of the condo. There are cars in and out at all times of night and much more foot traffic than I would have thought. In addition to this, the microwave did not work, many lights were burnt out (maintenance did come fix these for us the next day) and the TV works but has large fuzzy lines down half of the TV no matter what you are watching - TV or movie. It is not as clean and nice looking as the photos make it look. The condo is in a decent location and we like the resort with the grassy area above the beach (about a 5 minute walk from the condo).
We alerted the owner of the cockroaches right away and she did get back to us, but just said that she hates cockroaches too and is sorry we had to deal with them - she did not do anything to help us or compensate us in any way. She called management to see about the exterminator, but it did not help expedite anything.
I also wanted to add that I have never left a negative review on a place that we have stayed before and again, have always had great experiences with VRBO until now, but then again, we have never had cockroaches. I saw all the positive reviews for this place so we were really excited - maybe we were just unlucky with the week we had the condo, but it definitely put a damper on our travel to Kauai.
