Waterfront Fun/Coziness on 2 Acres; Pier, Wood Fire, Kayaks, Dining
Celebrating that we were named by TRAVEL & LEISURE as top Airbnb in Maryland! This sunny but cozy 3 bedroom/2 bath cottage is just the spot for a get-away on your own, with other couples/friends, or with big and small families! Just steps from the water and nestled on a country-like acre in a surprisingly convenient corner of the Chesapeake Bay, this unique, quiet, scenic spot is just over 20 minutes south of Annapolis and 45 minutes from Wash DC, Alexandria VA, or Baltimore. Our Flat next door creates even more space if you need extra accommodations.
Couples, groups, or families can easily converge here right after work on any given afternoon, and travelers can use it as a relaxing waterfront 'home' while you're touring the area. After a quick trip from these cities or local airports, all you need to do upon check-in is the following:
* hang out and chat or snooze under the large shady trees,
* swing or kayak or yoga to your heart's content,
* play Frisbee, football, soccer w/ your dog, friends, or kids,
* read or work on your tan as you gaze at the water,
* cook out, cook in, or pick crabs at a table on the lawn,
* savor the nearby waterfront dining,
* cozy up, watch DVDs, or play games by a wood fire.
Or just settle in to the pace of the birds and the bay breeze for a week or two. :-) With a washer/dryer, 2-car garage, BBQ, and full galley kitchen, it's all right here--complete with view.
Despite it's country-like location (no street lights--only stars!), all the services you need are within minutes, including 4 quiet little burbs (Deale, Galesville, Shadyside, Churchton) with
*a great grocery store,
*'famous' consignment shops,
*fishing boat excursions,
*fitness club or Bay history museums,
*little walks, drives, and sights,
*lots of waterfront and other dining options--whether you want a casual crab-picking feast with live music, carryout sushi/pizza, or a long romantic dinner.
Nearby historic Annapolis is also full of great sights, shops, and restaurants, as well as movies and the mall (but people just don't seem to care as much about those things when they're here!)
As your host, I have been sharing my lovely place next door for over 7 years with the greatest crew of happy guests (see reviews of Flat and Cottage), who have been so much fun to host (See reviews below for 'Lovely Chesapeake Waterfront Flat', since the cottage has only had a few!). Since many are return guests who would like to come back with their couple friends, their kids, or their dogs, I decided to jump on the opportunity to buy the cottage next door!!!.
We set a nice low price for this solid little yellow stucco cottage until folks get to know it's here, and because we will continue making it better and better over time! So far, everyone has LOVED it, and one couple is bringing their extended family back for Thanksgiving after their first visit less than one month earlier.
This bright yet cozy cottage has a queen-sized bedroom that shares a charming
tub/shower with the room that has a full sized bed. Then there is also another queen-sized bed in a room that is a bit more separate from the others, and has it's own small bath with shower only (with gorgeous new tile job and fixtures that we just finished in the renovation!). Finally, there is an L-shaped Ikea couch that easily becomes a queen-sized bed or huge chaise lounge, allowing the cottage to sleep a total of 8 (if the last 2 are OK to be in the living room).
There is charge for each person over 4, unless otherwise negotiated. Bringing a dog incurs a basic charge of , plus per dog per night, added after your basic reservation request (contact me or see House Rules about doggie deposit).
Finally, if you need space for more people, if the dates you want for the Cottage are booked, or if you're looking for a smaller, less expensive accommodation or romantic get-away, we also have a charming Carriage House attached to the cottage, which can be rented separately or with the Cottage for a reduced rate (be sure to ready the description as this near-new space also has some special considerations.
Also, please check our other listings next door to the Cottage: Lovely Chesapeake Waterfront Flat (often used as a honeymoon suite!) and my own home, Shawn's Amazing Waterfront Digs, which I sometimes rent out to folks or include for a larger gathering! I'm thinking the best description of me for your purposes as potential guests appears in the reviews! I'm someone who is just here being incredibly grateful to live in this gorgeous, quiet, nature-filled spot on the Chesapeake Bay; to have this opportunity to share it with others; and to have connected through and [just recently] VRBO with such lovely people. I'm always thrilled to see how much these individuals, couples, and families enjoy staying here, and am hoping that what they have said about me will tell you what you need to know. I am thrilled that my 2 friends and I partnered together to buy the cottage next door to me to extend our my ability to share this really special spot with larger groups (and dogs!) Beyond that.... I will be very happy to answer any questions you may have about my diverse interests and pursuits, as well as the travel destinations I am currently exploring. The most recent was taking our adopted daughter back to see China, her birthland, with a quick stop in Germany on the way home! Finally, I love my OTHER work as a life/author-coach, for which I'm close to being Certified as a facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie, a simple, predictable way to turn our most stressful situations into highly creative solutions and greater peace each time! Very cool.

The place is very comfortable and very scenic. Children will have a great time ...like in the hot tub, kayaking, playing with a very friendly dog, outdoor games. Owner is very friendly & helpful. I would definitely go back again.
Great little place, fantastic views
We were attending a wedding, and we found this great place that was close to everywhere we needed to be. Shawn was very attentive to anything we needed. The wood stove was fun and it was a bit cold to take advantage of the kayaks, the option was there. Relaxing environment, and away from the main roads, but there is a grocery store right up the road for any "supplies". If I had to give feedback on anything, the showers have very low water pressure, but I don't think that's probably something that could be "fixed", so to speak. But it's not like you spend your whole day in the shower, right? Definitely would stay here again when we come back to visit family in Maryland. Thank you Shawn!
Just what we wanted... waterside, dock and well maintained.
This was a great getaway for 3 old retired guys who get together occasionally to share past experiences. Had a wonderful time around the fire pit just gazing on the water and relaxing. Shawn was a great hostess making sure we had everything we needed including plenty of firewood for the pit. Everything was furnished. Certainly will keep this place in mind for our next outing.
Very Nice Spacious Cottage by the Water
Absolutely loved Shawn's cottage. Plenty of space for a large family to enjoy a relaxing time together. Great kayaking from the dock right behind the cottage and plenty of grassy areas to play family ball games or to just sit and relax beside the water. The cottage itself was extremely well equipped and immaculately clean with great views from almost every window. Loved the whole experience and will definitely be spending more time there!
Just as advertized
Shawn's cottage was so lovely. The setting was beautiful, the facilities and amenities were in great shape. Everything we needed and more so was available including quality linens and towels, complete kitchen, chaise lounges, gas grill, outdoor swings, kayaks. Shawn was available to give great advice about what to do in the area, and we also got to play with Winnie, her dog! We had a great mini-vacation, and we would return in a snap.
Restful, Relaxing and Rejuvenating
Those three words are the best description for our stay at the Chesapeake Waterfront Cottage. The bucolic location by the water set the tone for our quiet family get-away. Relaxing under the shady trees and strolling around the grounds helped us to unwind from the daily grind of our urban lives. Everyone in our small family group of grandparents, parent and child agreed that kayaking on the water was the highlight of our visit. We enjoyed our glimpses of the local wildlife while the soothing waters was balm to our spirits. Shawn is a warm and generous host who goes out of her way to care for her guests. Her location next door is a genuine asset for the property.

Additional information about rental rates
$8/per dog per night. Please contact property owner prior to booking. $350 refundable pet deposit. NOTE: I highly recommend wearing water shoes if you swim. As much as I love the warm silky mud at the bottom, it can also have glass shards or wire, etc. embedded in it. The main warning about swimming in the Bay is to not do it when you have a fresh cut or wound.
