Why Jason Miller chose Estes Park

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Great views of mountains all around us and so close to town it is just awesome. We have been looking at Estes for a while now. This property came up for sale, so we took a family vote. With a 16 yr old daughter and 14 yr old son, I thought that I would have a challenge ahead of me with convincing them. Low and behold, 100% = Let's go to Colorado!

This property previously was The Black Dog Inn Bed & Breakfast. The Millers will be living in the main home and renting out the unattached units around the 1 acre rustic property. We are a very FRIENDLY property. We do not judge by gender race, sexuality, or political views. We all just want to Get Along.

What makes this house unique

Located High above the town of Estes Park, our wooded acre has a commanding view of Lumpy Ridge(a well known rock climbing formation), Mummy Range, and Mt. Olympus. We are only a short 5 minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park. The footpath in front of the property connects with the scenic Riverwalk and also the 4 mile path around Lake Estes. This property has Luxury accommodations at affordable rates. We are only 1/2 mile from town. We love to hike and spend time outdoors in the wonders of Nature. There are literally hundreds of hiking and climbing trails minutes from our front door. Longs Peak, Twin Owls, Mummy Mountain, Twin Sisters, Lilly Mountain, etc.

A wonderful place to stay in Estes Park.

VRBO Bear stayed here

Dec 7, 2015

We spent a long weekend in a cozy cabin with great views of the surrounding mountains. It was a peaceful and beautiful setting for a visit. When we first arrived, there were elk in the front yard. The owner, Jason, left special treats for our arrival and was helpful with our questions. We arrived during the quiet season in Estes Park, after a recent snowfall, so there was still snow on the ground. We walked down the street to the local bar and grill (Cables), where we met several of the locals and had a good time. The cabin was close to shopping and downtown, and a short drive from the Rocky Mountain National Park. Just a great location. After a day out, we enjoyed the relaxing jacuzzi tub. The kitchen was well equipped with cooking oils and spices and all the pots and pans we could need. We prepared several meals at home. The living room was cozy and the loft upstairs sleeps two. Two more could sleep in the living room sofa which opens up into a bed. The deck outside looked like it would be awesome in warmer weather, but it was cold enough that we mostly stayed inside. We had a great vacation in the mountains and are planning our next trip.

clean and spacious but limited view

  • 3 of 5

Clean and spacious 1 bedroom with loft was a good size for our family, and if the weather had been a little warmer we would have made good use of the deck. The view was limited by a nearby building, and we found the utensils and kitchen tools to be a bit limited. Elk did come right up on the property both mornings, which was a real treat for our kids:)

Convenient, Enjoyable, Relaxing and Friendly

  • 5 of 5

We -- a couple, our daughter, her fiance and our dog -- enjoyed a wonderful week+ at Old Man Lodge! Jason and Joanne are wonderful hosts -- friendly, full of support and suggestions when asked and quick to respond to any issues that may arise. Old Man Lodge is beautifully (and simply and comfortably) decorated... a wonderful base for hiking, sightseeing, and relaxing. We cooked most of our meals, and the pots/pans/etc. in the kitchen were more than we needed. We had a great time and would definitely stay again. The only things we would say to be aware of -- and they are not complaints about Old Man Lodge -- are the fact that the mountain view is overlooking fences and Estes Park and -- if you are staying for more than a weekend -- that there is no W/D (although there is a very friendly laundromat within a half-mile).

Thanks Jason and Joanne for a wonderful escape!

Very Nice Estes Park Rental with Plenty of Room

  • 5 of 5

The Old Man Lodge was a comfortable rental as we enjoyed what turned out to be a snowy fall foliage trip. The unit has plenty of space in the two sleeping areas. Closets and dressers in the downstairs bedroom allow you to unpack that suitcase. The upstairs area with the two twin beds has loads of space for kids or grandkids to get away. The bathroom areas are large and equate to two separate bathrooms. The kitchen has modern appliances and was easy for us to prepare meals. We were travelling with our dog, so we were happy to have a nice place we could all enjoy, and there were ample places to walk the dog. The location is convenient to both the downtown area and Rocky Mountain National Park. Coming from the land of no snow, we enjoyed our unexpected snow days both in the park and at out rental. The owners are keeping this place looking nice, and we would gladly return again.

We enjoyed our stay. The unit was neat and clean with very nice furniture and decor. My only regret is that our stay was too brief. Hope to return someday.
