About John and Annemarie Marinelli

We are natives of Massachusetts. We enjoy the beach, wildlife and outdoor activities; fishing, kayaking, and hiking. We love spending family time on the Island and creating lasting memories.

We are happy to share our home with other families. It has been such a rewarding experience to receive emails, phone calls and thank you notes from families who have enjoyed themselves at 'A Shore Thing.'

John and Annemarie Marinelli purchased this house in 2014

Why John and Annemarie Marinelli chose Bald Head Island

In 2011 we were fortunate to discover Bald Head Island. We were looking for a vacation home on the Outer Banks for over a year and could not find what we were looking for. Purely by good fortune we came across a link to Bald Head Island, NC. We did some research, contacted a Realtor, purchased a lot and flew down to see the Island, in that order. We had never even been to NC before. We fell in love with this beautiful Island, it was EXACTLY what we had been searching for!

Our original plan was to wait four years and then build our dream home. However, we couldn't wait! We were passionate about the Island, it's wildlife, the life style, and the conservation/preservation of this enchanting barrier Island. We got to work immediately; hand picked our Builder, Architect and Designer to help us make our dream home a reality. We could not be any happier with our decision! We know now that it was fate that we found BHI and not an accident.

What makes this house unique

We especially appreciate the casual, relaxed lifestyle of the Island, friendly vacationers/ residents, the varied environments of this spectacular Island and the wildlife.

This past summer we were fortunate to see a loggerhead turtle's nest boil....amazing!

Another wonderful week at "A Shore Thing" on Bald Head Island, NC

  • 5 of 5

Our family had another wonderful week staying in this beautiful home ~ we felt so comfortable and enjoyed every minute upon entering the home. We loved being together with our three daughters, their husbands and our seven sweet grandchildren! East Beach was the destination every day and playing games was the order of the evenings, putting the games in the well stocked cabinet to good use! Happiness, fun and love abounds within these walls and on all the great porches.

We have already booked our third vacation at "A Shore Thing" for next July. We are counting the weeks before we return and we can not wait.

Thank you so much, Annemarie and John. You made everything PERFECT for our stay!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

A Shore Thing was the perfect spot for our annual trip to BHI with our growing family. The house was superbly stocked and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. We loved the location and the easy access to the beach via the cut through the forest was special. Everything at A Shore Thing is in great condition and any questions we had were answered immediately and thoroughly. Two rainy days-which could have been daunting with seven little children-flew by due to the entertainment options available in the house. We loved all the porches and the dining area that could accommodate all of us together. Thanks Annemarie and John for sharing your wonderful home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your "perfect" rating! "A Shore Thing's" location is ideal. It is located on the East side of the Island in the esteemed community of Cape Fear Station, named for the US Life Saving Station that once stood along East Beach. Cape Fear Station has a multitude of environments and exceptional natural surroundings; ocean, marsh, tidal creeks, dune ridges and the maritime forest. Our home is within walking distance to East Beach (one of the most beautiful beaches on the Island), the Southern Living inspired community, Conservancy, The Common ( a true Village Green), South Beach, Shoals Club and The Point of Cape Fear. There are two beautiful, direct, shaded public boardwalks on Portsmouth Way which intersect Station House Way, the first boardwalk brings you directly across from beach access 41(the quickest route to the beach) and the second brings you to within a 5 minute walk to the Shoals Club. We encourage our guests to take advantage of and experience the enchanting boardwalks when they walk to East Beach or the Shoals Club. Thanks again for taking the time to review our home. It was our pleasure sharing our home with your family. John and Annemarie

"A Shore Thing" is perfect

  • 5 of 5

We had four couples (plus one small child) and this house as absolutely perfect. All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, everything was in tip-top condition, location was perfect for walking to the beach, and you could see the ocean from the top deck (FYI there are outdoor decks all over this house, which is fantastic). Would go back in a heartbeat - John & Annemarie made the booking and stay seamless for our group. Thanks!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your 5 star rating! When we gave our lengthy list of beach house "must haves" to our Architect, at the very top of that list, second only to an abundance of outdoor spaces was, "every bedroom must have an adjoining bathroom". We felt it was extremely important for our guests privacy, comfort and convenience to have an en suite bathroom. Each bathroom is beautifully tiled, and have granite counter height sinks. The master bathrooms have double sinks, vanities, Jacuzzi tubs and the Water Dance multi spray shower system; hand held shower, rain head and body sprays. We incorporated plenty of outdoor spaces; covered porches, decks, and screen porches into the design of our home for families, friends and large groups to congregate and enjoy each others company. We appreciate your review and for sharing what you enjoyed about our home, "A Shore Thing".

With three carts large groups can travel together to the same destination or small groups can go their separate ways and explore the Island. Thank you for your review!

Beautiful and very well stocked house!

  • 5 of 5

Getting everything you need over to Bald Head Island can be a challenge, so we were grateful to find "The Shore Thing" is completely stocked, and the owners have taken the time to detail out everything they have in the kitchen (down to the spices, trash bags, paper towels, etc.) to make your packing easier! The owners were wonderful to work with and always provide a very prompt response. AND not to mention, the house is fabulous! Beautiful decor, comfortable beds / bedding, and plenty of room for everyone! I can't wait to come back for our anniversary!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our vacation home, "A Shore Thing" on Bald Head Island. We appreciate your comment regarding our responsiveness. We wear our phones like most people would wear an accessory. We respond as close to immediately as possible. Pretty much the only time you will not receive a response is; when we are sleeping or driving (we have been known to pull over while driving to respond to an inquiry). We manage our home like our second full time job and we love it! Fondly, Annemarie and John
