About Deirdre Hochstetler
Being a fourth generation Floridian the mountains have always been a source of wonderment for me. I have many fond memories of summer vacations with my family camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians. The cool crisp air, winding mountain roads, rushing crystal clear streams, and lush flora were a refreshing contrast to the Florida heat. When my work brought me to Atlanta two decades ago I was delighted to discover the mountains a short two hours away. Unlike the Carolinas, the Georgia mountains are still relatively undiscovered by tourists. My retirement goal is to trade the hustle and bustle of Atlanta for the quiet unspoiled beauty of the north Georgia mountains. This mountain cabin represents a promise to myself that someday that dream will come true.
Deirdre Hochstetler purchased this Lodge in 2012
Why Deirdre Hochstetler chose Suches
The Chattahoochee National Forest is where the Appalachian mountain range begins and is the one true mountainous area in North Georgia. Its edges are dotted by quaint mountain towns like Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Dahlonega, and Helen, but the only civilization inside the forest is the community of Suches. With ten wilderness areas and six wildlife management areas most of the forest is unspoiled and is as wild as when the Cherokee Indians roamed. For a nature lover the natural beauty and abundant wildlife that encompass Suches are about as close to heaven as you can get on this earth.
What makes this Lodge unique
The Riverlands Lodge sits 50 feet from the Toccoa River which is one of the premier trout streams of Georgia. This stretch of the Toccoa is privately owned and heavily stocked offering excellent fly fishing opportunities. The cabin is nestled in a small river valley surrounded by mountains offering a 360 degree panoramic view. Herds of deer regularly graze in the open fields while wild ducks, herons, and beavers can been found along the river bank. Growing up I wanted to be a Forest Ranger so I have added all the amenities to the property that make it feel like you have your own private park. There is a picnic pavilion on the riverfront with an in-ground charcoal grill, and a rustic fire ring surrounded by benches to roast your hotdogs and marshmallows. Horse shoes can be played while the picnic is being prepared. While I enjoy the outdoors I also like to be comfortable so the cabin is setup with all the amenities needed to enjoy your time inside as well. The cabin was built to be a family home so it has a spaciousness needed to accommodate a variety of people. The four bedrooms are separated to afford privacy to each bedroom making it ideal for family reunions. I thoroughly enjoy the simple beauty of Suches, and this cabin puts you in the middle of the very best of it. I am proud to offer my guests the chance to share this experience and hope they find Suches as heavenly as I do.

Perfect place for our getaway! Very clean and spacious and Mrs. Deirdre was very accommodating. Look forward to visiting again in the near future!
Beautiful property and welcoming home
The home is definitely country living and closer to Blue Ridge than Dahlonega. The stream/river is right out back and there's a beautiful view of the mountains from the front porch. The home is fairly new with a nice kitchen and plenty of beds and space for a group of people. The beds and linens were nice and new and brighter in person than in the pictures. My only complaints are that connecting to the internet/wi-fi is challenging (but country living, right?) and the house was very dusty (lamps, blinds, window ledges, etc.). The owner is terrific though, easy to work with, and will probably have the place nice and clean for the next guests. We had a lovely retreat!
Beautiful place, very well set up for short term vacation rental.
Super nice place, great for families or a group of friends. Very accommodating owner and she was very responsive and easy to work with. Would definitely come again.
Couldn't have been better!
Our family and two others rented this lovely cabin for a weekend getaway. It was absolutely perfect. The kids spent most of the weekend playing on the expansive, plush lawn, and the adults loved relaxing riverside or in the hot tub. The kitchen and dining area were spacious enough to enjoy family-style meals, and we topped off our nights with s'mores around the fire pit. Sleeping accommodations were plentiful and the kids had great fun in the bunk room. The cabin is clean and well-kept and the owner went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The property is a short drive from great outdoor adventures, including the Toccoa River swinging bridge. If you're looking for a comfortable, quiet, spacious place to relax or use as a jump-off point for outdoor fun, look no further. We look forward to coming back!
The home was great! We had plenty of space to enjoy all it had to offer..
Beautiful, quiet, away from it all setting. A quick drive to the swinging bridge & numerous trails.
The perfect getaway for a large family. Plenty of space to stretch out, play games, fish, grill and gather round the fire pit. Clean, well taken care of home offering everything needed for cooking & entertaining. We visited in February, shorter days, so packed in as much sight seeing as possible during the days and enjoyed the evenings preparing Smores by the fire pit, relaxing on the porches and enjoying the hot tub. Morning coffee is ten times better with this view. Peaceful!
We had a great time! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!
