About the property

Elegant 6 bedroom, 7 bathroom ranch home surrounded by a private spring creek.

More than just a home, this 400 acre ranch has nearly 2 miles of a private spring creek. Fly fishing is a few steps from the porch, as is floating in a kayak or Stand-up paddleboard (SUP). Secluded but only 10 minutes to town.

Much of this working ranch is under conservation easement with the Teton Regional Land Trust. Several cold springs flow from underground to form this prime trout fishing creek. For birders there are also 7 ponds, some designed in partnership with Ducks Unlimited, which attract an array of migratory waterfowl and shorebirds.

The recently remodeled home has a beautiful and spacious great room. The wood floors are adorned with oriental rugs and knotty pine walls have original artwork. All of the 6 bedrooms have their own private bathrooms with heated floors. There is a well stocked cooks kitchen with two dishwashers, a Wolf gas cooktop, and granite countertops. The dining table seats 12, with space for 8 more at the counter.

There are over 1500 square feet of decks (creek and Teton facing), plus piers on the creek and pond provide ample space to enjoy the spectacular mountain views. One could spend days here without ever leaving the property. There is a historic barn, a horseshoe pit, bacci balls, and a fire pit next to the creek. Mountain biking can be reached from pedaling from the house, or by a short drive. Enjoy walks through the expansive property, or hike in the close by Tetons and Bighole ranges. 2 major ski resorts (Jackson and Targhee) are within 45 minutes.

Caretakers live onsite in a historic bunkhouse a few hundred yards away. The friendly local couple, avid skiers and bikers, are a wealth of knowledge that can be helpful to people unfamiliar with the area. They can also provide meal catering and housekeeping upon request.

About Beach Huntsman

After losing a battle with cancer in 2012, my father left this ranch for his wife and 8 children. Our family strives to protect his legacy and maintain Fox Creek as a working ranch. I am the 5th child and the caretaker/ ranch manager. My family mostly resides in Salt Lake City and often visits the ranch as a base to ski, mountain bike, hike, fish and spend family time together. We only allow 2 rentals per summer season (July-August).

Beach Huntsman purchased this lodge in 2001

Why Beach Huntsman chose Teton Valley

My father was raised in Utah and Idaho, a passionate sportsman throughout his life. After searching the west for the ideal fishing property, he found a cabin on the Teton River in 1986, upgrading to this ranch in 2001. Initially it was a heavily grazed cattle ranch. Since then, he and our family, with the help of dozens of grants, volunteers and local agencies, have transformed the ranch into a wildlife preserve and trout spawning mecca. The evolution has been spectacular. Nearly 2 miles of creek banks have been regraded, gravel returned to riffles, deep pools dug, and around 22,000 native trees, willows and shrubs have been planted along the newly restored creek banks. Dozens of bird species can be seen here nesting on the waterfowl ponds or in the native grasses or trees. The spring creek flows from underground and never freezes- even at minus 30 in the winter.

If one desires more culture, shopping and restaurants, Victor or Driggs in a short drive away, and Jackson Hole just over the pass.

What makes this lodge unique

The unique benefit of this property is definitely the spring creek and surrounding habitat. Fox Creek is a major spawning tributary to the Teton River. Where else can you wake-up, walk 30 feet and catch a big ole trout, or hear the gurgle of a creek while laying in bed?! You can watch the sunrise over the Tetons while cattle graze in the distance. Fox Creek Ranch offers a unique opportunity to experience Western ranch life and land conservation working together.

Truly special and fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

Fox Creek Ranch is truly special and wonderful! An incredible location with views in every direction of the Tetons and Big Hole mountains; conserved farm and wetlands; a restored and pristine spring creek for fishing and kayak/paddle boarding; a large, comfortable and well-stocked and maintained family lodge; and, most of all, great, sincere, helpful and available hosts (Tara and Beach). A one-of-a-kind place and experience. Thanks to the family for sharing with our group of five couples.

Terrific house on its own private wildlife preserve, but convenient to local towns and Jackson, WY

  • 5 of 5

Our 3 generation family stay was a great treat for all. The home is beautiful and furnished with all the conveniences you could ask for. The property is truly spectacular--with its own trout stream and ponds, plus views of mountains front and back. The stream is also available for kayaking/paddle boarding (with equipment provided), and wading if you like cool water. The property is very private, but only an short drive from two towns for shopping and restaurants. Jackson and Grand Teton NP and their large number of activities are only about 40 minutes away.

Beach and Tara, the property managers, are in a separate house on-site. They were extremely helpful and guided by your interest in how visible you want them.

Clearly a five-star property for those who love nature.

Fox Creek Ranch

  • 5 of 5

Rustic elegance on a beautiful setting. We spent 2 weeks with family and friends at the ranch and had a great time. Beech and Tara were most helpful and provided accommodations more like a home than a rental.Everyone had great fun kayaking and paddle boarding the creek and jumping off the bridge. You could fly fish a few yards from the house or walk the stream and find isolated fishing holes. Birdwatching was great and having 3 bull moose run across the front of the property was memorable. Very comfortable for a large group. Everything about it made for a memorable vacation. Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Rick and Kathy, we loved meeting you, your friends and family here on the ranch. We are so glad you liked the ranch. Our family has put countless hours into discussing large-group friendly decks, kitchen and an overall layout of the house. We love having guests enjoy a float down the creek, a walk out to the bridge, or a cocktail around the fire on the river deck- and to see 3 bull moose streak by is a bonus! Thanks for the visit and we hope to see you again in the future.

Abundance of Nature

  • 5 of 5

We arrived with a group of 7 who had been fly fishing in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho and had no idea prior to arrival how beautiful and full of nature the ranch property was, or we would have worked our plans to support a longer stay. Beach, our host, was very accommodating and gave us a great overview of the property upon arrival, making us feel welcome and not giving us the standard rentor treatment. The house was fully equipped with everything needed by a large family or group of friends to enjoy the property....excellent kitchen, gas grill, kayaks, mud room for dirty boots and wet waders, and a great outdoor patio for enjoying those crisp mountain evenings or sipping some cool, adult refreshments. The look and feel of the house is not your typical rental, with lots of family pictures and items that give it a personal touch. Everything, including the bedding, was upscale and modern (of particular importance to wives and girlfriends); not dated as we find in many rental homes.

The location is perfect for fishing or float trips, and 15 minute access to some nice restaurants (numerous choices) and small town shops. Also, the short, easy ride to Jackson airport enables one to stay to the last minute and get the most out of the vacation.

Assuming we get back to the area in the next year or two, we'll definitely put this property at the top of our list. We've been fly fishing the larger area for 20 consecutive years and have never stayed in a home with all the amenities, or as nicely furnished or equipped. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Owner's Response: John and Kathy, thanks so much for the positive words. You were our first ever VRBO guests and we were so glad that it all worked out. Our family and friends have spent many years enjoying this magical place and we love to share. I'm glad to hear that the fishing was good and that you all caught some nice trout! We hope to see you back again some day. Thanks.

One of a kind family estate

  • 5 of 5

We've rented many homes and this was far and away the nicest. The house itself was perfect for a large group, sleeping with Fox Creek outside your window was heavenly.

The grandkids loved to run on the lawns barefoot and creek safety was not an issue. Fishing on the creek was terrific, especially for novice fly fisher. We enjoyed hiking on the property, kayaking, bird watching and making smores on the deck over the river. Beach and Tara, who stay out of your way unless you need them, were terrific. We look forward to seeing them again.

Victor has terrific restaurants and a great source for excellent steaks and good wine, which came in handy for a 12 person dinner party when a few couples joined us for dinner.

We floated the Teton a few days and caught quite a few cutthroat and were visited numerous times by large moose.

The drive to Jackson is an easy and scenic 45 minutes for shopping.

The grandkids, 2, 3 and 5 enjoyed the elk, buffalo and Old Faithful on the Yellowstone road trip. It's a long day but worth the trip. We picked up lunch at a great place, Ernie's Bakery and Deli in West Yellowstone and ate along the Firehole River on the way to Old Faithful, then head south to the West Thumb and up the lake until you see the elk and buffalo then doubled back to Jackson for dinner and back to the house.

We also hiked into a part of Yellowstone rarely seen, the Bechler River access. A terrific hike and only a few hundred people see this annually.

The trip to Last Chance to see Big Springs/Johnny Saks cabin, Harriman's Railroad Ranch and Mesa Falls is a great day trip, be sure to check out the elk burger and local brews at Trout Hunters for lunch.

The house was clean and well stocked with silverware, glasses, spices, and towels. Great internet and SAT TV. The photos under sell the place, we were lucky to find Fox Creek, truly a special place and plan to rent it again for sure.

Owner's Response: Fred, thanks so much for the kind words. We genuinely enjoyed meeting you and you lovely family. You guys certainly made the most of your stay here- and we were impressed at how much you got out to float, fish, enjoy the deck or just walk around the property (which seemed to pay off with your numerous moose sightings). The cooler that you left us has been very well used. We are so happy to share our family's ranch with your family- we hope to see you again in the future. Thanks.
