Why Patty Stanton chose Helen

Helen was the perfect place to chose to buy a vacation home. The seclusion of our property provides the quiet solitude for relaxing and disconnecting from a hectic schedule. But when I feel like getting out, there's always activities and events going on in Helen and some of the most gorgeous scenery to take in during a mountain drive. Waterfalls, views, covered bridges, State Parks, gorges, etc.

What makes this cabin unique

This Cabin Feels Very Private With The Forest Just Feet Away, Yet, Its Only A Few Minutes To Helen.

Its Rustic Meets Potterybarn And In A Great Location.

Watch For Deer Bounding Across The Driveway And Bear Cubs Playing In The Forest.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The Bear Affair is absolutely beautiful. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our experience there. I give the architecture, decor and comforts a 10 out of 10. The wood burning fire place was a lot of fun for me. I really enjoy collecting wood and making camp fires. The jacuzzi was very comfortable and relaxing as was the king size bed. I highly recommend renting this cabin if you are going to be in the Helen area.

Loved the decor, we counted over 70 bear-themed decorative items! Lots of thought went into it!

Loved the decor and deck and hot tub. Lots of thought went into making it a great experience. Also the privacy in the woods. Lights on the covered deck were like magic. Just wonderful overall!

Perfect Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect and just as depicted on the website. The cabin was adorable! We loved the hot tub, the bear decor, and the quiet, dead-end location. We had everything we needed and made most of our own meals or packed a lunch to take out with us. We also had so much fun in this area...visiting Helen, tubing the river, and finding plenty of trails that led to beautiful waterfalls in the mountains. We even did a bit of gold mining! (I would not recommend more than two adults, however, due to limited space.) This provided us with a wonderful vacation!

Slightly off-grid, completely off the charts

  • 5 of 5

The drive is quick from Atlanta, as long as you don't go through Helen proper. The drive from the road in to the cabin was—almost off-road. We drove a VW GTI, which worked well. We have a Mini Cooper, which we would have lost in potholes.

First impressions:

• Immaculately kept

• Well equipped and stocked: towels, toiletries, cookwear

• Huge bed

• Bears everywhere! ;)

Details—Bear Affair is a presentation. It's clean and well stocked with toiletries, towels, and dishes. Bear skin on the bannister, bear clocks on the wall, nick-nacks, photographs, paintings, stick-ons, towel racks—if you can get it with a bear theme, it's here. Not cluttered, but very warm and welcoming.

Much of the outside lighting, along with the hot tub, are on automated timers. There are scenic lights providing mood lighting and visibility, making the cabin inviting no matter what time of day. Deck wraps three sides of the cabin, with a door on the kitchen and entry. The grill outside the kitchen is a standard Webber round charcoal grill. All the utinsels are present. We got a weekend worth of food at Betty's(?) in the north end of Helen. Quick 10 minute drive, lots of fresh deli goods.

The staircase to the loft is a little scary, at first. Take the AC remote on your way up, it's a little warmer upstairs. The King sized or maybe a bit bigger. Sturdy and quiet. Talk about an amazing sleep—it was difficult to readjust to a Queen bed, and an upgrade is now in the plans.

Even on a long weekend, Bear Affair had more to offer than we could take advantage. Wifi, the hot tub, and little TV with a Tom & Jerry marathon could keep you fully satisfied on a rainy weekend, but overcast days and a thirst for the outdoors is easily sated. Searching a 10 mile radius finds a myriad of waterfalls, lakes, camp sites and hikes. Kitchy groups will find the roadside shops and Helen's Bavarian strip.

This was an amazing vacation spot. We never got to use the fireplace or hot tub, but only because we tried to stay out during the day, and were exhausted at each day's close.

No complaints, we'll think of the Bear Affair when we find ourselves in the area.
