ABOUT LAKE DOUGLAS
Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers
and provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities.
Douglas Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in TN, and the only lake convenient to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is an anglers paradise and is the site for several bass fishing tournaments, including the Tennessee B.A.S.S. State Tournament
Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier bass and crappie lake in East Tennessee. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you will find there is good stock year-round
Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. From mid September until mid May the lake is lowered to provide an emergency reservoir in case of heavy rains/snow in eastern Tennessee. The boat launch near our cabin remains open and is active all year.
Year Purchased: 2013
About: Our home is located in northern Wisconsin where winters are extremely cold. Our son lives in Tennessee near our cabin and after four visits to the area we made a decision to purchase a cabin and spend our winters here. The beauty of the area also played a major role in our decision. We have traveled extensively around the world and had the opportunity of living in Switzerland for five years while I was employed with Control Data Corporation. The mountains near our cabin remind us of the Jura Mountains in Switzerland. We purchased the cabin in February of 2013 and commenced the major remodeling process starting 2014. Our traveling experiences have educated us in what is required for a comfortable stay in a place away from home. Hotels never gave us the feeling of tranquility. Our goal was to offer you a home style visit where you can enjoy yourself as though you were at your own house. If we have learned anything through the years it has been that there is nothing that beats winding down after a long day in a comfortable environment. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our home.
