Central location, walk to events and restaurants in this historic Gold Rush town. Enjoy your own quiet, cozy 550 sq. ft. apartment with full kitchen in the lower level of a private home. Children welcome. Plenty of parking.

Comfortable 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment, for 1 to 2 adults (children welcome) with a queen bed and futon couch (Pack n Play available). The flat is in the basement of a home (quiet, single occupant). The ceilings are low (81'; one crossbeam descends 5-1/2') and, while there are plenty of windows, the apartment gets natural light mainly in the mornings. The apartment has its own entrance and an outdoor table and chairs.

Guests are asked to book a minimum of 2 nights and to only bring the number of guests agreed upon. Monthly rentals are welcome. A pet is possible, if quiet and well behaved (pet deposit required).

This is a fabulous location in the heart of an old Victorian gold-mining town that makes a car unnecessary for most your needs.

Your host is a professional writer, teacher and world traveler, and is likely to be available to assist you for much of the year while writing her next book. Otherwise, the apartment is overseen by a very capable couple. We’re glad to recommend sightseeing, walks and local eateries that will make your stay extra special. Someone will check with you after arrival to make sure everything is okay; otherwise your privacy is respected.

Why Mary Greer chose Gold Country & High Sierra

I moved to Nevada City from San Francisco because I was looking for a slower pace, beautiful environment, and lots of art, culture and interesting events. I'm happy to share my downtown home with visitors to this lovely country town.

What makes this apartment unique

I enjoy being in the midst of things, walking distance to everything, on a usually quiet street (except during festivals and parades). Every time I return from a trip, I delight in driving into my picturesque Victorian town, lit at night by gas-lights and people ambling through the streets, no matter the time. There are plenty of trees around the house, giving the sensation of being in a private oasis (while actually being quite central). Most days the nearly cloudless sky is a sparkling blue and the air is fresh. Even in winter there are summery days while the summer nights are cool. We have our own public radio station, combining the best in music and talk, plus there are plenty of activities from wine-tasting to courses, guided hikes, winter/snow activities, plays and everything in the arts.

Great amenities and comfy digs right downtown

What a gem, so glad i found it and i will return to this roomy and well appointed downtown apartment. Great to have a full kitchen, comfy bed, sizeable bathroom and good shower. All very clean and comfy with good screens in all the windows, excellent coffee maker, flowers of the season to welcome you in beds at entry and windowbox. Had a chance to meet owner for brief greeting on arrival, and she was warm and welcoming.

Angels Camp

Cottage Street!

This was a second time visit. Perfect and quaint little place, in a one blocks walking distance to Main Street and all the shops, restaurants and grocery store. I'll be back Mary.

Close to Downtown NC

Mary's place was perfect for our stay in Nevada City. Everything was just as described. The apartment was very clean and welcoming. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans. There were even some condiments and sugar!

The apartment is walking distance to Downtown Nevada City. Perfect for getting breakfast, lunch or dinner!

There were many maps and brochures covering the area and many hiking trails!

We look forward to coming back and staying here again!

Our stay was relaxing and very convenient to town and all that Nevada City has to offer. Mary was very friendly and gracious and we would not hesitate to stay there again. It is perfect for 2 people.

Comfortable, relaxing, nice neighborhood.

We found this apartment to be quiet, comfortable, cozy and very convenient to downtown Nevada City. The owner, Mary was very vice and accommodating. Her directions where spot on, we had no problems locating it. She lives upstairs and is on hand if you need anything, which we did not, but she did find some toys and a high chair for my grandson. The place comes well stocked with dishes, cookware, bath essentials and bedding. The apartment was clean and tidy when we arrived. The furniture is comfortable and the apartment is nicely decorated. We cooked dinner for our Nevada City family during our visit and had everything we needed to provide a meal and a comfortable visit for them. When we weren't out and about we where able to relax and just enjoy the quiet, cozy atmosphere of the place. Thanks Mary, job well done!

Clean & Convenient

Mary is great to deal with and even knocked on the door to check in. We stayed for three nights towards the end of spring.

The apartment is very close to downtown making for easy walks to morning coffee and evening dinners. It was very clean and quite with a comfy bed - we slept very well. It's rather dark, which I'm sure keeps it cool in the summer, but might be an issue if you intend to spend your days inside. I personally don't go on vacation to stay indoors. The kitchen is serviceable and we did cook there a couple of times, but the pots and pans could use to be updated.

Overall we'd recommend it others as a clean and convenient place to sleep while you explore the surrounding towns and nature.

This is the heart of California's Gold Country. The Sierra Foothills has a mild four-season semi-arid climate with occasional snow, rain only during the winter rainy season, and mild summers (compared to the blistering central-valley). You'll find festivals, theatre, music, markets, plus lots of hiking and outdoor activites - many within walking distance and others, only a short drive. Sking is only an hour away and swimming in mountain rivers is even closer. This is also a popular area for weddings and other family gatherings.
