Interaction with Guests
We live on site and are available via phone or text. We are happy to assist with your itinerary and visit about fun things to do in the beautiful Rogue Valley. Just give us a text or call. Otherwise you are free to enjoy an undisturbed, private getaway at Middleford Cottage.
Surrounded by mountains in every direction, we find Southern Oregon a natural paradise. We ski Mt Ashland, float the Rogue, Applegate, and Illinois rivers, hike dozens of nearby trails, and bicycle all over the valley. Our favorite ride is the Pioneer/Dark Hollow loop just south of our home. We also see live shows at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland Cabaret Theater, The Camelot Theater, and The Ginger Rogers Collier Theater. At home we have a small flock of free-ranging chicken-pets. We welcome you to southern Oregon and to Middleford Cottage.

Our guests say 'Ahhhhh' when they arrive at Middleford cottage. Entry into the cottage is very easy. Pull into the driveway, park in your VIP space on the cement pad with the basketball hoop, pass through one gate and walk a few paved steps to your private porch and cottage. Everything welcomes you, from serene gardens with ancient sycamores and cedars, to softly clucking hens. You will find luxurious surprises in every room, such as plush bamboo/Turkish cotton blend towels, high thread-count sheets, leather furnishings, and fine wool rugs.
To travel from Middleford Cottage to Ashland, we recommend a scenic route through farmlands, vineyards, and gently rolling hills.
Head south on Columbus Avenue and continue through the 4-way intersection at South Stage Road. At the T intersection, turn either left onto Carpenter Hill Road or right onto Dark Hollow Road. From Carpenter Hill, turn right onto Pioneer Road. From either road, continue south. The roads will meet again at a Dark Hollow/Pioneer (T) intersection. Continue east, through a 4-way stop (on Pioneer Road), until the next T intersection. Turn right to head south on Colver Creek Road, which will intersect with Highway 99 in the small town Talent. Heading south on Highway 99 will bring you into the heart of Ashland.
Continuing onto Carpenter Hill is also lovely, and will intersect with Colver Creek to continue south-east to Ashland.
Take your time, and just drive in a south-easterly way. You might hit a dead-end lane but all of these roads are beautiful and you won't get lost or taken far from your intended path. Most of these country roads meet up at Colver Creek Road, which will intersect with Highway 99. These roads also make lovely routes for cyclists who enjoy hills, and motorcyclists. Columbus/Carpenter Hill/Pioneer/Colver Creek into Ashland takes less than 30 minutes, so this route doesn't add significantly more time than driving I 5. Enjoy!
My wife and I were in Medford to visit relatives for five nights in December and we found the perfect "cottage." Suzanne was a great host, warm and welcoming and very accommodating to our needs. The property is beautiful, well appointed and spotless. One of the most comfortable king-beds we've ever slept in. We plan to return in 2017. Hopefully, next visit we will have time to enjoy the pool and hot tub. We will definitely recommend this "cottage" to our friends and relatives. Thanks again Suzanne !
Very spacious with everything you could need! Comfortable beds and very clean cottage and hot tub! Would definitely recommend!
I was very pleased with my stay at the Medford cottage. The rental is great and has everything we needed, no complaints! We didn't do all that much in the area, but the location was great for a visit to Crater Lake, where it was snowing...in October : - ) Absolutely gorgeous property!
We felt right at home as soon as we entered the property. Suzanne was available if we needed her but the cottage was well equipped With all the comforts of home. There was even a bowl of snacks and fresh eggs and cream in the refrigerator! The hot tub was a nice bonus. We definitely hope to return on our next trip to Oregon.
This is our second year staying at this location. We intend on staying next year as well. We golfed, went to plays in Ashland and wine tasted. All of these functions were close by and convenient. This location and it's amenities are some of the best we have experienced using VRBO. This mother in law house in private and comfortable. Kitchen is fully stocked with what ever you may need. We even got fresh eggs from the chickens on the property. We enjoyed the deck overlooking the pool with friends and wine. All and all this was a great experience.
I've stayed here many times, and will keep coming back to this beautiful cottage. I come to visit my grandson and his family, and we all love playing together in the pool, then warming up in the hot tub. There's a drawer of toys he knows where to look for now, and a whole cabinet full of family games. Being acclimated to Seattle summers, the heat of Medford is something I'm not used to, but this cottage mellows it out with the cool pool and the shaded front porch. Of course, it's thermostat controlled air conditioned, but with all the shade and cool breeze on the front porch, we were able to open up mornings without air conditioning until midday. I adore that indoor-outdoor connection. Our hosts think of everything to make the place like a second home--I believe they've furnished it with love and care for visiting family, and we other guests benefit! A new positive I discovered this time is that it's totally accessible and was suited to my sister's physical needs--better than any place we stayed on her 2 week visit from the East Coast: high toilet, walk-in shower, only a few steps with a good hold to get in and out of the cottage, then all on one level. Paul and Suzanne are wonderful hosts, always so warm, caring and attentive.
Bring your bicycles or jogging shoes; we are nestled in the south west corner of Medford, where Mediterranean-like hills undulate through pear orchards and vineyards. You can ride all day on gorgeous country roads. We are also near the Bear Creek Greenway. Dutch Bros and a neighborhood convenience store are catty-cross our street. You can drive anywhere in Medford in 20 minutes or less from Middleford Cottage and downtown is fewer than five minutes away.
We are three miles from Jacksonville, a quaint town listed on the National Historic Registry. Dine at Jacksonville Inn, Bella Union, Las Palmas or Deja Vu Bistro. Their patios are particularly lovely in warmer weather.
The city of Ashland is also nearby (13 miles), with artisan shops, Lithia Park (must see), and Tony award-winning theater. The Pioneer/Dark Hollow route from Middleford Cottage to Ashland is gorgeous, passing through farmlands, vineyards, and forests.
Medford boasts a variety of golf courses, with a local favorite public course within walking/touring distance from Middleford Cottage.
Medford is very easy to drive around and we are less than five minutes from I-5 exit #27.
Perhaps best of all, we are surrounded by wilderness paradise, with rivers, lakes, and hiking/biking/cross-country-ski trails too numerous to list here.
For a day trip to the beach, Brookings is a 2 1/2 hour drive, partially through exquisite redwood forests.
Crater Lake is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Please see it if at all possible. We recommend the boat tour.
