FRONT ROOM...

“Shellebration!” has an open, spacious floor plan. The entrance opens into the living area with ceilings adorned with wood beams and floor to ceiling windows, allowing the Lowcountry sun to shine in. The living area comes equipped with a 65-inch plasma TV w/Blu-Ray, a sofa, love seat, and a chair & ottoman. During the winter, relax by the fireplace (upstairs OR down) with your feet up and a good book.

KITCHEN & DINNING ROOM...

“Shellebration!” has a beautiful dining room equipped to seat 6 comfortably. You will find everything that you need in the well-lit, open and well-equipped kitchen that offers additional sitting for 6.

MASTER BED/BATH & SUN ROOM...

The master bedroom has a beautiful queen size bed with full dresser and two night stands with romantic lighting. Step out of the master into the sun room for additional seating. Wicker furnishings offer a comfortable area for sipping coffee, reading the paper or enjoying a nightcap. The sun room is equipped with a separate entrance to the front porch for quiet entry into the master bedroom. Master bath offers a dual vanity with bath and shower.

REST OF UPSTAIRS...

Second bedroom furnishings include a queen-sized bed with night stand and soft lighting. Third bedroom is spacious and has two twin beds with night stand. Hallway bath is a single sink vanity with bathtub and shower.

DOWNSTAIRS...

Venture down the wrought iron spiral staircase to find the downstairs living area. Furnishings include a 32-inch flat screen w/DVD, love seat, sofa and over-sized chair. You will also find a beautiful fireplace for sitting and relaxing. Enjoy some ping pong! Two additional bedrooms can be found in the lower living area. Bedroom One is equipped with a double-size bed and a set of twin bunk beds while Bedroom Two offers a queen bed with nightstand.

THE BEACH...

“Shellebration!” is only 75 yards from the beach. On our barrier islands, the tides are semi-diurnal, which means that our shoreline experiences two almost equal high tides and two low tides each day. At high tide, the water can swell to an average of 7-9 foot tides. At low tide, you will find that you walk out about 300 beautiful, scenic yards to get to the ocean. There is a wonderful large tidal pool, which, as any veteran of the SC coast will tell you, is a great place for both small children and semi-submerged beach chairs. Don’t forget the floating cooler!

PRIVATE ISLAND...

As anyone who has ever stayed at a 'public access' beach can attest, Fripp Island's greatest – and most unique – feature is that it is private. The whole island. You can’t get over the bridge without being an owner or renter. That means no overcrowded beaches and the roads are not choked with the cars of thousands of day-trippers. It’s hard to overstate just how much this adds to the character of Fripp Island – and to your vacation. And we are just a short but BEAUTIFUL ride from Paris Island.

GROCERIES...

Another thing to keep in mind is that Fripp Island does not have a commercial corridor – which is nice but it also means there is no grocery store. There’s a tiny shoppette where you can buy milk, etc., but the nearest real grocery store is in back on St. Helena, about a 20 minute drive. So plan your food, grill, and beverage situation. (Which is why you will LOVE having that 2nd fridge downstairs!)

AMENITY CARDS - Amenity cards are only needed to access the club benefits on the island (such as the pool, golf course and restaurants). You do NOT need an amenity card to access the beach. Should you wish to purchase cards, during the summer season (Memorial Day - Labor Day), each card is $50 for a 7 day pass and $35 for a 4 day pass. During the off season, the passes are $35 for a 7 day pass and $25 for a 4 day pass. These fees are a pass through charge from the Club to us to you with no upcharges. Only those 14 years and older need an amenity card. If you are unsure if you will need amenity cards, we would be glad to talk you through the process before you commit to purchasing them.

Here is a little about us .... Shell is a South Carolinian and a graduate of The Citadel. He has gone to Fripp Island since he was a boy. Jennifer, although native to New Jersey, has called South Carolina her home for 30 years.

Not bad, but not great...and not worth premium vacation dollar

When we made our reservation for this place several months ago (last winter) ....this review (below) hadn't been posted yet. Had I seen it back then, it probably would have steered us to another property.

"There are a lot of beds, HOWEVER the mattresses need to be replace. We had a person in every bed and no one really felt their mattress was very good. I've slept in worse-sunken and lumpy) these didn't do that, but were hard and cheaper quality. ...There are TWO fridges (WONDERFUL!) HOWEVER the ice make is not installed in the downstairs fridge and the one upstairs didn't work."

Most of the mattresses were okay. And the owner has apparently replaced some of them recently. One double mattress however was a nightmare. It was like two box springs were stacked on top of each other. Totally unacceptable, especially if you're the parents of the bride and are already paying an arm and a leg for a wedding down here.

When we mentioned this and the ice maker not working to the owner she seemed genuinely surprised saying that no one had mentioned problems with the mattresses before and that she thought the ice maker was working just fine. Again, the comments above were made about 6 weeks BEFORE we arrived.

When we got there the door handle on the first floor, leading outside by the trash bins and outdoor shower, was barely hanging on the door. A half of a yank would have sent the inside parts all over. Not a huge issue, I found a screw driver and fixed it. But this isn't how I would leave a house to a guest.

We ended up having a good time here. It was a great wedding, and the house is definitely large enough to have a crowd over. But would I come back here again? No. And it's not solely a reflection on just this property, or the owners. I checked rates with other places to stay and this place is in line with others from a rate perspective.

However, during the summer months (which started when we arrived) you have to stay a minimum of a week, and it has to be Saturday through Saturday. No one on the island deviates from this. And you have to buy amenity cards if you want to enjoy the island (golf, go to the pool, eat there, play tennis, rent golf carts, rent bikes, etc.). The beach is free.

Fripp Island is overpriced. It's a nice enough community but you're going to pay through the nose here. Obviously it is very popular, as many of these properties stay booked up. But I can think of several other places where my money would go a lot further.

Owner's Response: Thanks for writing and submitting a review, Mr. Kemmy. We appreciate your input and honest feedback. As per our many conversations both during and after your stay, we did try to address all the issues that concerned you. We had no idea about the door handle (so thanks for fixing that). We had a repairman out right before you arrived who was replacing the door's threshold, and the handle must have been removed or worked on while that happened. We certainly did not expect you to have to do ANY work on the house while you are there and would have gladly addressed it if we would have known about it. We are in the process of replacing the beds and sorry you did not find them comfortable. As for the ice maker, we did fix it, then it broke again, so we got it fixed again during your stay. I feel confident the issue is now resolved. As for the value for the money, we constantly monitor what other properties on the island are charging and, as your research will show, we are not among the higher priced rentals. Our property is not brand new - but it is also not priced as such. It is clean. It has plenty of space. It is in a great location. 99.9% of the time everything is working perfectly. What it is not is a 5 star hotel. It is a home. We love our house at Fripp and do our very best to be sure that it is maintained to the highest standards. Many other folks who have stayed at our property and reviewed it can attest to that. I will say that you are the only guest who has given us a 3 star review, and also the only guest who left us with an outstanding balance. We wish you the best for future rentals with other VRBO homes and hope that your next vacation meets and exceeds your expectations.

Second time just as good as the first!

This was our second time at the Shellebration and we enjoyed our stay immensely! The location of this house is perfect and central to the whole island. The owners and brother are extremely pleasant to deal with. Can't wait to book our third stay in the future!

The property owners were very kind, accommodating and easy to work with. The house was spacious and beautiful! Just a short walk to an amazing and quite private beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Good, but some things could take it to great

First, there's a lot of room here. The pictures don't do it justice. There are two couches and a chair with fireplace and tv upstairs. The downstairs living spaces mimics this. The laundry room is large and is just inside the door from the outdoor shower. This is on the main entrance/parking level, so it's great to come in and put stuff before heading to other areas of the house.

There IS view of the beach, HOWEVER there is a large pine tree right in the middle of that view. I'm not sure why that is. This home is very close to the beach access, just steps away actually, HOWEVER it's currently closed (April 2017) along with many of the beach accesses in this area. That made it necessary to rent a golf cart ($75 a day) or drive to a nearby access and park. That was doable in April, but I don't think it'd be a possibility in July since there's not much parking. I don't know if that's normal, or if it's a result of hurricane Matthew, which was a pretty big deal here. There are a lot of beds, HOWEVER the mattresses need to be replace. We had a person in every bed and no one really felt their mattress was very good. I've slept in worse-sunken and lumpy) these didn't do that, but were hard and cheaper quality. There is a 60" screen tv in the upstairs living room HOWEVER, three grown men couldn't figure out how to play it. It might have been and issue with cable since it began working the second day there. There are TWO fridges (WONDERFUL!) HOWEVER the ice make is not installed in the downstairs fridge and the one upstairs didn't work. There are two staircases to the downstairs, which is fun. This isnt handicap friendly though. Lots of stairs to get to main living area. If one wanted to stay downstairs and not access the kitchen and dining rooms that would be okay. We had a friend with severe asthma with us and she had to be careful climbing the stairs. The landings (two on one set of stairs) helped her to pause before continuing. The room for people to sit down and eat at a table was great too. So often people have lots of room to sleep but little room to sit and eat. The owner was accessible via email, which was nice. The price for the space was very good. So would I stay there again?Yes. HOWEVER, I wish I'd known a few of these things beforehand. The beach access is a pretty big deal.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, Lynette! We appreciate you taking the time to write it. As a follow up, we wanted to respond to some of your comments: 1. The view - there are a lot of trees between us and the beach, impeding the view, but most of those are located on our neighbor's property, so unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about that. The good news is, and I think you will agree, those tress make the house VERY private. 2. Accessibility - The house is absolutely not handicapped accessible and we state that in our description. There ARE a lot of stairs and the bathrooms and hallways are not equipped for handicapped accessibility. Sorry we mislead you to think we were. 3. The beds - We are working on replacing the beds. This is one of those "Goldilocks" issues where some people like them soft and some like them hard, so we try to compromise when we make purchases. Both of the beds in the downstairs bedrooms have been replaced in the past year. 4. TV info - Before our guests arrive, we send them a few documents for review. One of these documents is directions for the upstairs TV. Sorry that was a problem for you! 5. Beach Access - Yes, this spring the beach access has been an issue. Hurricane Matthew left the island with lots of issues, and one of them is that some of our beach accesses are more flooded than usual. I will tell you that our access (Beach Access #9) is one of the FIRST ONES on this list to be repaired and we have our fingers crossed that this will happen very soon. Great value, great location!

We had a great stay during our trip to Fripp Island. The house was very clean and a close, easy walk to the beach. The only problem we had was that the ice maker in the refrigerator did not work so we bought our own ice. The owners responded promptly to all the questions we had. Would stay here again!

Great house to stay in. Location near beach was fantastic! Fripp Island & the Low Country are great

We shared the house with friends. Kids (3) got the lower level and the 5 adults were upstairs. Very convenient location to all island amenities. All of us loved the easy beach access, feeding the deer (sometimes right from our hand!), traveling to visit Beaufort and Savannah, sampling the local restaurants, taking the evening pontoon cruise, and biking/walking the island, including the beach. Very friendly neighbors. Never a dull moment for any of us. Can't wait to come back again.
