The sunsets are amazing, in the evening you will see the locals pulled over to the sides of the road to watch for the green flash as the sun goes over the horizon.
There are two transit systems that run by on Alii drive making them very accessible.

About David Hamm
My wife and I were fortunate to grow up on the beaches of Southern California but with all of the stresses of development we decided to move here in Kona where it is what California was like in the earlier years. We are now able to host guests so that they can come experiance the life style of Island living.
David Hamm purchased this House in 2011
Why David Hamm chose Kahaluu-Keauhou
We are located close to the hustle and bustle of the oceanfront Kona town and yet far enought to get away from it when you are ready to relax.

A great place and a great location.
I really enjoyed my stay. It was beautiful, well furnished. However, it was quite loud in the morning with traffic and birds and since there are no windows, only screens, wasn't much you could do about it. But the ocean breezes coming in throughout the house and all the ceiling fans was great. I would give the warning that some of the homeowners list their properties with several booking agents (VRBO, AirBNB, etc.). So when I thought I had the place for the entire week and booked it as such, I had to be notified by the owner that his calendars didn't match up and it wasn't available for my first 2 nights requiring me to find another place to stay which was really inconvenient. David was very nice and helpful.
Thank you for your review. I just want to clarify that our place was not the one with the calendar mix up. I go to great lengths to make sure I don't over book. As for the island birds, I believe you are referencing the Francolin bird. They do have quite a unique song that might not be for everyone, yet is part of the charm of the Big Island. We are blessed to have nature as part of our everyday lives. Hope you enjoyed the island.
We had a nice time here. David is friendly and attended to our needs quickly. My husband enjoyed the funny “chicken parade” this morning. The view is great, and the apartment is very cute. The only reason I give 4 stars is that the open air windows and shutters did not provide an adequate sound or wind barrier, and the room was cold at night. We would recommend adding a couple of luggage stands, and a TV channel/stations guide.
Great location and nice top floor suite
This is in a great location for the snorkeling beaches and close to downtown Kona. David was very accommodating, even giving us fresh chicken eggs upon our arrival. The suite had everything you need, but the snorkel gear was quite worn out. The towels and beach chairs are perfect. The only reason we did not give it a 5 star, is that the noise level from the traffic is quite great. During the night for sleeping, it is quiet, but early morning rush hour starts early. Also, being that this house contains 4 other smaller suites, the main top floor one, King Palm suite, is the one we stayed in and there is a bit of noise from people coming and going. The living room only has a partial wall that doesn't reach the ceiling, and our voices and TV were clearly heard in the front foyer. We could also hear everyone else very clearly as they entered and exited the house. It wasn't a huge issue, but we did feel our privacy for conversation was a bit compromised. But the bedroom is very quiet and our sleeping wasn't bothered by this noise with the bedroom door closed. So we just made adjustments at certain times and thus the noise issue wasn't a huge deal.
All in all, a great place to stay. Having a full kitchen, enclosed bedroom with ensuite and screened in lanai, it was great value and we would not hesitate to stay here again.
Great space and location. Well stocked and very comfortable. Enjoyed my stay
Lovely place. Spacious, clean, well decorated. Would stay here again.
Very comfortable place to stay, airy, and an easy walk to the beach
Clean, spacious and convenient to Ali’i Drive and South Kona sights. Easy parking and gracious host.
We spent 3 nights here because of the proximity to the airport and the ocean before continuing on to other parts of the island. The property is as depicted, very open and spacious with screened windows on 3 sides. Evenings were cool during our stay, but sleeping was comfortable. The kitchen was adequately equipped and we ate breakfast and some other meals in. Good grocery store 10minutes away at Keahau We saw David every day working around the property. He is very nice, and knowledgeable about the area if you are looking for recommendations. We loved hearing the birds in the morning (especially his chickens—hens only, no rooster) and really appreciated the fresh eggs that David left for us! Within walking distance to snorkeling at Kahalu’u but be prepared to carry your gear a ways along busy Ali’i. Easy road for your morning run or walk in the along the roadside as well. But being one house away from the road with no glass in the windows does mean you pick up a lot of road noise. Usually not a problem at night but traffic begins early in the AM. We enjoyed our stay there, knew it was a busy area, and we were ready to move on to quieter areas after 3 nights. I would recommend this rental with that caveat, particularly for folks looking for access to Kona town and associated activities.
