Studio, 1 bathroom, with peaceful yard.
Our sweet backyard cottage is nestled among the fruit and flower trees of the yard. It is easily within walking distance to the grocery store, coffee, shopping, restaurants, post office, and local arch park events. It is at the north entrance to Yellowstone Park, as is all of Gardiner. The cottage is in the heart of town and also shielded from the main street by the owners' home. The yard is shared with the owners but privacy is afforded by the trees. The owners' home was built in 1930 and its cottage was built in the 1940s by former owners, the Eastons. It is believed that their intent was to rent the cottage to visitors of Yellowstone, making it a very early vacation rental in this town. The cottage is a perfect fit for two people who want to day trip to northern Yellowstone, book local activities like rafting, biking, horseback riding, and return to a simple, basic, clean environment to relax. Our guests note that the well cultivated green and floral landscaping add to the charm and character of their experience. The stucco cottage still has the details of its early history with the old style door knobs and kitchen cabinets. There is a comfortable queen bed, sitting area with DVD player & movies (no television service), eating area, full but small kitchen, and full bathroom. It is clean, well cared for, and you are welcome!

About Eleanor Stone
Tom and Eleanor Stone came to Yellowstone Park in the late 70s and early 80s, met and were married here. They worked in the interior of the Park for a number of years and then settled in Gardiner in 1989. They raised their two daughters in Gardiner. Outside of work in Yellowstone Tom enjoys gardening, fly fishing, reading, and traveling when able. When not working, Eleanor's life revolves around family, friends, and food and she's been active in the community. They have been hosting family and friends in the Lilac Cottage for years and are happy to open it to newcomers and folks who want to enjoy the area.
Eleanor Stone purchased this Cottage in 1995
What makes this Cottage unique
We love our home and cottage because of its location. It is handy to go out the door to run errands or explore, and yet this downtown property has a surprising ability to tuck you away. We love the old fashioned comfort of this historic property. We purposely keep the nightly rate of Lilac Cottage reasonable for this area. The reason is that we think that the additional 10% taxes (7% state and 3% local) plus the $40 cleaning fee and now the new VRBO Service Fee add enough to your charges! We are making our rate fair in comparison to vacation rentals in the area and even to Gardiner motels.

This was such a perfect little place to stay during our visit to Yellowstone. 5 minutes to the park entrance- can't beat that! The cottage itself was very inviting and comfortable-it had everything we needed and more. Eleanor was so kind, helpful, and pleasant despite our late evening arrival. Decorated adorably-attention to detail evident. Would definitely recommend this place and will hope to stay here again if we ever get the chance to make it back to this neck of the woods.
Just what I was looking for
Cozy, quiet cottage with a host who thought of everything, plus an absolutely stunning setting. Loved it and hope to return.

We loved our stay! This is a perfect location; very clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. We will certainly stay here again!
Great space for a couple. Kitchen had everything we needed including a couple of coolers for use in the park. Bed was very comfortable which is unusual for vacation rentals. Great location too. We walked to grocery and restaurant.
We can't wait to come back!!
This was our first experience with a HomeAway and it set the bar so high! This is the cutest little cottage with everything you could possibly need. Eleanor and Tom have thought of it all: directions, maps, food suggestions, DVD's, books, toiletries, a massager (great after hiking!!), several cooler sizes, robes, hair dryer - there's nothing you could want that they didn't have available in the cottage! They also included nice little extras: ice cream, candy, small boxes of cereal in the pantry for us, and a lilac soap (that smells amazing!!!!). I truly could not have expected any more out of our stay and we cannot wait to come back. The location in respect to Yellowstone is perfect - easy access to the park. There are also a number of restaurants, coffee, ice cream and shopping spots close by. Thanks for such a fabulous stay!
Thank you so much and we DO hope you can come back!
Perfect for a couple. Less than a mile to north entrance of Yellowstone national Park. The owners are super friendly. They go the extra mile to make sure your stay is relaxing and comfortable. Many little extra little touches make you feel pampered. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Yellowstone Park's north entrance is one mile from your door. Rafting is across the street. Arrangements for horseback riding, mountain biking, cookouts, fly fishing, hiking guides and much more are across the street. Great places to eat and coffee are on the next block in either direction.
