The chalet on high meadows - hear the silence

The Chalet on High Meadows is an artistically designed European-styled Chalet nestled in a high meadow of the Black Hills in western South Dakota. This vacation rental chalet graces a peaceful meadow and overlooks the Black Hills National Forest and is approximately 10 miles NW of Rapid City. It is conveniently positioned to the west of I-90 between Rapid City and Sturgis, SD on a well maintained county road. The easy access allows visitors to enjoy top events and attractions yet experience the quiet of the natural setting.

Enjoy the openness of the floor plan, the closeness to nature and the simple beauty that surrounds The Chalet. Features include: One full bathroom on the main floor, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, two bedroom areas with queen-sized beds (one queen bed and a single bed upstairs in the loft; and, one queen bed downstairs near bathroom) as well as a sofa sleeper, all comfortably appointed beneath a lofted, knotty pine cathedral ceiling. Outdoors features include: Gas grill, private tennis court, gazebo, deck.

Activities include: tennis, pickle ball, bike riding, hiking, birding, forest bathing, fishing in area lakes or streams, skiing at nearby downhill ski resorts or cross-country skiing, golfing, variety of restaurants and various tourist attractions. Come stay at The Chalet and play tennis or pickle ball on The Chalet's private tennis court. August 2022 Pro Track and Tennis, Inc. out of Omaha, NE completely reconditioned the tennis court. The court is designed to meet the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tennis' global governing body specifications.

To continue as hosts on the VRBO platform, we are following the VRBO Host standards:
1) Contactless Check-in/Check-out: we allow you to check-in and check-out without any personal contact with us. We will text or call you with specific instructions;
2) Shoes must be taken off at the door and not worn inside.
3) Light Housekeeping: we will leave cleaning supplies in the bathroom and kitchen for you to use as per VRBO specifications. Guests are to provide some light housekeeping prior to checking out as per VRBO guidelines. We will leave a copy of the guidelines for you in the house book. We ask guests to leave The Chalet clean and tidy.
4) Buffers: we are attempting to leave a 1-3 day buffer between each set of guests checking in at The Chalet.
5) Hot Tub: we are happy to provide the hot tub to our guests. Please contact us if you wish to use the hot tub. Any public health and safety conditions that change due to unforeseen events, then, we will follow CDC guidelines.
6) Extra attention to cleanliness.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We really enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking! The Chalet was spacious enough to have room to be alone and read, which we appreciated.Be aware that some attractions are an hour or more of driving time away. The quiet beauty of the land surrounding The Chalet was wonderful.

We loved our 4 night stay at the Chalet! The gardens were beautiful- we saw deer, a family of turkeys and several species of birds. The house was relatively close to everything we wanted to see in South Dakota. The owners are attentive and will immediately respond to any of your inquiries. Wonderful stay in South Dakota!

Beautiful, cozy cabin literally at the top of a high meadow. Loved the turkeys, deer and birds that visited every day. The hot tub was spotless and a perfect way to end each day exploring the Black Hills. Would definitely go back.

Very nice little place. Little is the key. There are no bedrooms. Only a double armoire separating a bed from the living room. All the closets are locked so no real place to unpack. Two beds upstairs in the loft with plenty of room. Sleeps five, but parks one vehicle well. Two can squeeze if they're small cars. Everyone needs to know each other very well as there is no place for privacy. Nice place, but the description needs more accuracy for people I think.

We're glad you found the Chalet to be a nice place, and we're sorry the space felt smaller than you expected for your group. The Chalet is an open floor plan cabin, as noted in our listing: the main-level bedroom is separated from the living area by two large side-by-side double armoires. The loft has two additional beds (one queen and one single bed) which opens out onto a balcony overlooking the tennis court. We'd like to clear up a couple of details for future guests: one of the two armoires is open with hangers for guest use (the other holds linens), and our paved parking area comfortably fits two full-size pickup trucks with ample room to walk around them. We hope you enjoyed the hot tub and the walking paths with benches to enjoy the views and the wildlife (wild turkeys, deer, birds, etc.). We're always happy to answer questions before booking so every guest knows exactly what to expect. Thanks again for visiting!

Property was clean and quiet in a beautiful setting, very relaxing. I do think they should not post pictures of a pond and creek on the site because they are Not on the property. I also think they should disclose that you have to drive up a steep Dirt road to get to the property about 1.5 miles. But all and all the whole visit was great.

We're tucked into the Black Hills National Forest, so a bit of gravel/dirt road is just part of getting to this kind of peaceful, quiet, setting — but we're always happy to walk guests through directions before arrival. Loved this stay! The Chalet is so cozy and makes you feel like you are staying at a friend's house! Very clean, meticulously kept, and so peaceful. There are hiking opportunities within walking distance and the tennis court for fun nearby. The kitchen is well stocked and the hot tub is a welcome sight at the end of the day or first thing in the morning. It is also not far from rapid city and worth the drive. Will stay again if back in the area!

This was a great place to stay. It was beautiful inside and outside. The tennis court was great for burning of the kids' energy while us adults enjoyed the hot tub. The location was perfect as you got to be in nature but still had easy access to major highways. We didn't have to go far in town for groceries. We saw plenty of wildlife on the property. The owners/hosts were very nice and accessible. It was a great first VRBO experience! We'd recommend!

Your hosts, Becci Flanders-Paterson and Colin Paterson are both geologists by degree and naturalists by interest. Becci was born on a US 82nd Airborne Army Base in Germany and grew up near the family's generational farm in Iowa. Colin is a native of New Zealand and has practiced geology on six continents. Both have lived in the Black Hills since the early 1980's.

The private tennis court / pickleball court allows visitors to practice and play to your heart's desire in a natural setting. Bring your Pickle Ball racquets as Pickle Ball lines have just been added to the tennis court!
Within hiking distance is Botany Canyon -- an exceptional way to spend a day. Botany Canyon is truly one of the most unique ecologically-sensitive areas in the Black Hills.
