About Chris and Angie

Living in Canada’s northernmost big city we carry on busy fulfilling lives with “important” jobs and an active family of five. For sure minus 40 degree winters are an incredible motivation for settling on Buenavidaville in Tamarindo. But the whole story is more about realizing our dreams, finding a fun & safe nest for our family & friends and keeping our values intact.

Chris and Angie purchased this house in 2014

Why Chris and Angie chose Guanacaste

The origins go back many years when we fell in love with Costa Rica while travelling there on a project for business. The natural surroundings and kindness of the people were incredible and the values of a well educated, healthy and happy population make Costa Rica unlike any other place in Latin America. We used to come home from each trip vowing to go back one day to escape from the winter and have a home in Costa Rica”. This area and property met all our needs for fulfilling the dream.

What makes this house unique

We turned over stones in many places before we circled back to Tamarindo. It’s not perfect like Disney, but the experience of arriving one evening and then waking up in this beautiful place is the meaning of Pura Vida for us. La Buena Vida is our private oasis nuzzled near the beach. When the first morning comes we are in a completely different space and our worries melt away. We feel like kids again and we never get tired! Our teens have taken up surfing and love the vibe here. In the end, we even want to go back in summer…Beaching, outings and endless adventures…it’s just too hard to resist.

Great vacation rental, short walk to beach and Downtown

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a very enjoyable 11 days in Costa Rica. We spent 9 nights at La Buena Vida 4 and highly recommend this condo. It is fully equipped with everything you need. The owners were great before, during and after the trip. As first time visitors they answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere is relaxed and the other condo owners were very nice and friendly as well. The pool is small, but we rarely had any one else out there and it was a great spot to escape the midday heat. The walk to downtown and the beach was about 5 - 7 minutes. To the far end of the main street and to the end of the beach, by Witches Rock Surf Camp, was just about 1 km. We walked everywhere and only took a cab to go to the Auto Mercado (nice grocery store) which was about 2.5 km away. There are excellent places to eat within 100 - 200m meters from the condo and we highly recommend La Esquina (great pizza), La Bruja Ines (the best ceviche) and La Bodega (great breakfast). When we come back to Tamarindo, and we will, this will be our go to place to stay.

Travler tips: Bring lost of bug spray and sunblock, very expensve to buy in town and you will need it, especially if you go on any tours in the canopy or rain forest. Also one of the condo owners (Maria) owns a tour company (SiSiSi tours) and we made all our excursion plans through her as it was very convienent. She is very nice and helpful, and the cost was the same as other companies.

Owner's Response: Hello Stephen, Glad you enjoyed our home and Tamarindo. We really appreciate you sharing advice & experiences! La Esquina is our go to spot as well…Pizza is great -We love the Kabobs and Shrimp Tacos, plus the price and quality is always very good. There are new places opening all the time in town and the selection can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. Our little street has some of the best and most established places in town and the dining is always warm & casual in the evening. We look forward to having you again at La Buena Vida . Thank you so much for being great guests. Chris and Angie

Amazing Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was a family vacation that included two teenage children, and was thoroughly enjoyable to everyone. The relaxed atmosphere was perfect. You can customize your vacation to be as busy or as laid back as you choose. With everything from a sunset cruise to zip lining and white water rafting, or watching the sea turtles nest, it was truly a perfect mix for everyone.

The location is ideal, with the ability to walk a few minutes and be in the middle of town, or stay put, and have the quiet of the "off the beaten path"

People are very friendly, and despite the many vendors selling their wares on the beach, there was never anyone that was overly aggressive or pushy. There was never a time where I felt uncomfortable or unsafe.

The amenities in the condo are ideal. There was a feeling of home from the minute you walk through the door.

Will definitely be back, hopefully soon!

Very Clean and Well provided Condo

  • 5 of 5

Condo was super clean and had everything we needed, hair dryers, curling irons, paper towels and toilet paper. That I found very impressive. It was very convenient and close to everything, bank almost right next door and not to far from the beaches, bars, shops, restaurants and the Saturday Farmers Market. On Friday, there is a fellow that sells fruit, and if you get there early enough, you can get some Great Papayas. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, just a garlic press was the only think of that it was missing. If you go to the boats by the creek, one gets turtle tours etc at a much cheaper price, as they don't have to pay anyone commission. Pool was very handy, and there was lots of light due to the fact it was the end unit and right beside the pool. If you rent by the month there are some good deals to be had. Overall stay was very nice, just not long enough for me. Costa Rican people were very nice, and Costa Rica is much cleaner than Mexico. Would gladly stay there again. Restaurants upped there prices though when the high season started, was not happy with that, I actually thought it would be much cheaper than it was, but I did find Tamarindo a bit of a Tourist trap, price wise. Best to shop in the Big Stores out of town, if you want to save some money on groceries, beer etc. No problem staying at this condo again if I was to return to the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review. Glad to hear you enjoyed La Buena Vida 4 and took the time to provide helpful advice for future guests. That is so kind! We use our place regularly and always want people to feel at home. Tamarindo is renowned for some of Costa Rica's best dining - Many International residents have opened wonderful unique places in town. Prices often are comparable to Canada/USA and this can be a surprise. So, shopping and dining outside the core is a good idea for more economical choices. We will update our welcome letter to include more "local" spots...The Mega Super in nearby Villa Real is a large local grocery and great economical choice. We hope you'll have opportunity to stay with us again. Its nice to have such caring guests. Kind Regards Chris and Angie PS. Picked up a Garlic press tonight-Great idea

Great vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

I've been to Costa Rica a few times, and this was my second visit to the Tamarindo area. The first time I stayed closer to Playa Langosta, which was nice, but a little bit too far from everything. I really appreciated that La Buena Vida 4 is so convenient for the beach, restaurants, and bars, but still tucked away. It's a short walk and close to the best part of town.

My vacation was mainly for surfing and relaxing. Tamarindo is a good base for day trips along the coast. If you have a car, I would recommend going to beaches like Mina, Conchal, Avellanas, and Negra. Playa Langosta is nice too and about a mile walk.

Also, Pedros is a great surf shop near the beach by La Buena Vida 4 instead of by the shops near Witches Rock (Pedros is by the Surf Shack, Pacifico, and Nougis - at some point definitely go to Nougis and sit on the beach). Richard gives awesome lessons, and you'll come away having actually learned something whatever your experience level.

The owners Chris and Angie were extremely responsive and accommodating from the very beginning, and Coastal, their property management company, was helpful with my arrival around 11:30 pm and lost baggage. The condo has everything that you could want in the way of bedrooms, bathrooms, living area, and even laundry. And making dinner in the kitchen with fresh caught fish is amazing. It's a beautiful and comfortable home.

La Buena Vida 4 was way more space than I needed, but I loved it. It was perfect for my trip. If I go back to Tamarindo, I will definitely stay there again.

Very Nice Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Central America and we loved it. La Buena Vida 4 was the perfect spot in Tamarindo. Everything was quite close and we enjoyed the short walk to the beach and shops. We also traveled to many other beaches, the mountains and even a volcano for day trips and afternoon outings. We watched so many great sunsets and always felt safe walking about town in the evening.

The VRBO pictures and description captured the feeling of the home very well. It’s a very pretty and secure small complex with the end house being more spacious than we expected. Six of us had plenty of room to stretch out. Everything was there for us including really good cooking utensils, boogie boards, and beach towels. You can tell that this home was outfitted for personal use and to share with family and guests. The large kitchen was a real bonus for our clan but many great restaurants are just around the corner. (Daniel and his family at La Esquina were amazingly sweet!). It’s so nice to have time to linger and we never felt rushed like we do at chain places back home.

The beaches we visited had beautiful and varying sand colors. One afternoon we got Playa Conchal all to ourselves. It’s a beautiful place about 20 minutes away and we experienced a sunset to die for. Some afternoons we just watched our teenage grandchildren swim while we made snacks or read our books. There are only a few neighbors so most of the time we had the pool to ourselves. It was very special family time for us. Overall a wonderful stay and we would love to come back again.

Perfect Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the first time we went to Costa Rica. We loved everything about the trip!

The property owners were really nice since the beginning of the booking process and provided us with all important information we needed. They also checked if everything was fine right after we arrived. The property is amazing, location is just perfect, just a few blocks from the beach, really close to restaurants and shops, but not to close that the noise would be a problem. It is a quiet condominium and being the last house right next to the pool it is a must! We enjoy cooking so the open floor plan and fully loaded kitchen was perfect!

We spent 9 days in Tamarindo and since we had a car we were able to go to all nearby beaches, from Playa Guiones all the way to Playa Coco and also spent one day at Monteverde Volcano. We did everything by ourselves, using a GPS and reading Lonely Travel book of Costa Rica. We didn't have to do any of the tours! We also did a private surf class at Playa Guiones and we loved it! The instructor name is Diego, was born and lives there and has been teaching surf for the past 2 years.

The restaurants we most like were all really close to the property. We went to a few restaurants at the main street but they were not as good. We loved Wok n Roll asian restaurant, Dragon Fly and La Esquina Pizzeria. At Playa Avellanas we ate at Lola's at it was great!

We will definitely going to come back to Costa Rica and hopefully will be able to stays at La Buena Vida 4 again!

Highly recommend the property and staying in Tamarindo.
