Bayfield Migizi Landings Lake Superior Shore Home

Located between Bayfield and Washburn on the sandy beaches of Lake Superior sits Migizi Landings. You will quickly learn why this home is so special to our family.

Migizi Landings is a short drive to everything that Bayfield County has to offer. A very convenient spot for those who vacation, hike, canoe, kayak, ski, ATV visit the Bayfield Apple Festival and attend Big Top Chautauqua events.

Many have told us that once they arrive they never want to leave the home. Local craftsmen built the four-story timber frame home in 2001. Many of the large wood beams were reclaimed from area buildings. Like the homes of Scandinavia that have stood for centuries, no metal is used in the super structure of Migizi Landings. You will stare up from the great room and fireplace three floors above to the loft and vaulted ceiling in awe at the sea of pine.

The home features four bedrooms, three full baths, a large authentic Finnish sauna, two fireplaces, an outdoor lake shower and a large fourth-floor open loft. A three-quarters wrap deck extends to the back overlooking Lake Superior, Madeline and Long Islands. An extended dining table in the great room can accommodate large gatherings. Custom built furniture and art fill the cabin making it feel like home to all who visit.

We named our home Migizi Landings from the Ojibwa Indian (Lake Superior Band) name meaning bald eagle. On the day we bought the home in 2009 a pair of bald eagles landed on a tree on the corner of the property looking over Lake Superior. On every visit since we see them multiple times daily. Their nest is on the lake within a 1/2 mile of our home. Deer, fox, loons, pileated woodpeckers and much more are experienced on visit.

A post-stay cleaning fee is taken out of your security deposit. It is typically $150-175, but has been higher when the cabin needs more post-stay attention.

Wonderful Timberframe Home

  • 5 of 5

Migizi Landings was a beautiful place to spend the Christmas holiday for our family. It was welcoming to see Christmas lights and decorations in the kitchen and living area since it was dusk when we arrived. The timberframe construction was sound and comfortable while a storm raged outside. The levels of the timberframe with the lofts were spectacular. We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen, which looks even better than the photos on the website. We were happy to see one of the eagles two of the days. The owners were very good hosts.

The Delta Diner has such a special breakfast and is only a short drive. We also love to visit Ashland to buy groceries at the newly located co-op and eat at the Black Cat and the Deepwater Grille with South Shore Brewing. We cannot forget the Ashland Baking Company with excellent breads and cakes as well as dips and spreads. There was not much open in Bayfield due to the winter season.

The cabin was perfect. We enjoyed having fires and the view was great. It was also a nice treat to have access to the beach. The beds were very comfortable and I would recommend staying again.

Delightful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week in this lovely home. I think "abundance" would be a good word to describe Migizi Landings. From the space, plenty of room for everyone to gather, or have privacy, to lots of towels, sheets, paper products, room to cook, lots of dishes and kitchen equipment, you name it, the homeowners have thought of it.

And the view of Lake Superior out the huge living room windows is breathtaking.

The weather wasn't the best when we were there, so we spent more time in the house than we normally would. This house is so cool, with its lovely setting and interesting, unique furnishings. Made it interesting to stay there.

In addition, we got long, personal notes from the homeowners, telling us about the area and great places to visit. Maggie's, in Bayfield, is a little, brightly painted old house off the beaten path. Great food, good service, and more pink flamingos than I've ever seen in one place! We never would have seen it if Patti hadn't told us about it.

We felt very welcomed by both Patti and Kevin.

I would recommend staying at this home. It was fun.

This is a very top tier house and location. As a 70 YO with some physical limitations, ( my problem not the houses problem) the steps in and outside are challenging. The BR on the ground level is very nice but stepping out of the very deep tub would be a challenge for many. I love the sand shower but getting there can be a challenge.

In summary this is a very beautiful, unique and spacious home. The view from the deck alone almost makes the entire cost worth it. If you love the lake this place makes the list.
