Overview

About the property

Cabin with 5 Bedrooms: Luxury Lakeshore property

From the moment you walk in the door you will feel completely at home at the barn at Madeline Island.

Sleeps 16 in beds/featured in both Martha Stewart Weddings, Linda Mack's new book about Madeline Island homes and featured on the Discovery Channel (Great Retreats).

Our home is located on over 900' of private lakeshore (18 acres) surrounded by beautiful white pine, maple and birch forest. The 3000 square foot home was built in 2003 from a 200 year old Vermont hay barn we had disassembled, transported and painstakingly reassembled into a luxury vacation home. The hand hewn beams inside are up to 20' in diameter and the walls are original barn board.

Enjoy our over-sized dock at sunset. Stand Up Paddle Boards and Kayaks are waiting for you at the lake... You and your kids will love swimming at the shore.

A charming treehouse for the kids and a handmade bonfire area to enjoy marshmallows and cocktails.

You will feel warm and comfortable from the moment you step inside to find a gourmet kitchen with Viking range and all of the amenities needed to relax and or entertain in grand style. Sit on the huge deck with family or friends and watch the sun set over the islands.

A perfect retreat for a couple, a wedding, a reunion or a larger group of friends looking to experience peace and quiet on Madeline Island.

We've hosted gorgeous weddings, family retreats, reunions and honeymoons. We take extra pains to make sure your needs are met. (caretakers are down the road!)

The Barn is truly a work of art that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

We are 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. There are tennis courts available as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. Moped, kayak and bicycle rental also available. Take the ferry over to Bayfield for a day trip of shopping and dinner out.

Available for weekly (7 night minimum) rentals during July and August or shorter periods in fall, winter and spring (3 night minimum).

This review sums up your future experience at our home:

"The home was BEAUTIFUL. It was decorated lovely, with a warm and cozy feeling. It was spacious, clean, very comfortable and the view to Lake Superior breathtaking. The home had all the amenities we needed and the gourmet kitchen was fabulous. We spent a lot of time on the huge deck, which had comfortable seating for all. The dock was large and awesome where we spent a lot of time sunbathing, taking a dip in Lake Superior to cool off and trying our skills on the paddleboard. We had a lovely time and we all agreed that it was one of our best vacations. We also want to thank the owner for calling us to make sure we had everything we needed. That's customer service at it's finest. "

What makes this estate unique

The barn at Madeline Island is actually a 200 year old hay barn that was lovingly moved from Vermont to its new home at Madeline Island where it was turned in to a breathtaking luxury home. Featured on the Discovery Channel, Martha Stewart Weddings and the upcoming book 'Madeline Island Summer Houses' by Linda Mack.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sanders and family - A HUGE thank you for renting us your home

on Madeline Island for K&L's wedding weekend.

Here is a link to a few pictures chosen by the photographer

to post on his website:

http://carrphotography.blogspot.com/search/label/Apostle%20Islands

We thought that you might enjoy seeing these, because we all read the

framed article about your wedding and it looks like K+L were

married on the same spot!

We had a wonderful meal catered by Good Thyme and amazing flowers

all grown on the Island and arranged by Cynthia Davell of Sylvan Island Events.

Your home was the perfect spot and exactly what K + L had hoped for

when they thought about their wedding day - close to nature and very, very special.

We tried to leave your property as clean as the day we walked in. (And it

was very clean on that day!)

Thanks again for providing us the contact information for your caretaker. He was a great help by coming to pick up the extra

trash and getting the septic company to come and pump. We all felt

better knowing he was so close.

Best always,

M&P

PS - Also had a lot of fun on the kayaks (we have some at home, too!)

and LOVED the paddleboard, the dock in general and the tree house!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We booked a long weekend at the end of April at the Barn. Our daughter was on break from school, and The Barn was the perfect place to relax, unwind and catch up. Sanders was so wonderful and easy to work with. He provided perfect details and all the needed information about the cabin. When we arrived it was breathtaking. We enjoyed the cabin décor. The cabin was so warm and cozy and we immediately felt right at home. The cabin had everything we needed. Our stay was perfect and we did not want to leave. Thanks for sharing this treasure with our family. We can't wait to come back.

Fabulous retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Barn is a beautiful, creative, quiet retreat on Madeline Island. The host was gracious and communicated well. The house was wonderful and the view of the lake was inspiring. If we had one recommendation, it would be to add a third toilet/sink in the basement so that we didn't have to choreograph our large group quite so carefully. There is access to the lake and a great pier with canoes and kayaks, however it is a challenging path for folks with balance and joint issues. We will take away great memories of the place and hope to return some day.

Lovely Time at The Barn

  • 5 of 5

We gathered at The Barn for my mother's 70th birthday. This one-of-a-kind property is gorgeous, organized, very spacious and well-maintained. There are a lot of toys, games, and equipment available which is a huge bonus. The screened porch was wonderful for late-night Scrabble games and the view of the lake and evening sunsets can't be beat. Sanders is a very responsive and helpful host. We look forward to coming back and highly recommend staying here!

Simply Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

It only took a few minutes at The Barn for me to completely relax. The view of and proximity to the lake are spectacular, the rooms are comfortable and sweet. One of my favourite things about the house itself is that the main action happens in a large shared space: there is cooking happening on the gorgeous stove, games on the long dining table, and a whole range of perfect reading corners. In short: we had a great time unwinding, taking time for ourselves and reconnecting with each other. I'm counting the days until we go back.

Magical.

  • 5 of 5

The Barn has become our favorite family vacation spot. The home and its surroundings are magical, including the dock! The home is extremely comfortable and very well stocked. The kitchen is a dream for anyone who loves to cook. Beds and bedding, top notch. Our kids never run out of things to do in the lower level kids space--when we need to be indoors! Most of our time is on the dock, in the water or meandering in the woods. The paddle boards and kayaks constantly in motion. Short trips to town for ice cream or a stop at Tom's Burned Down (the best) for a little adventure. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to live at The Barn a week every summer--it really feels like our home while we are there.
