Overview

About the property

Cabin with 5 Bedrooms: Rustic meets luxury Lakeshore property

From the moment you walk in the door you will feel completely at home at the barn at Madeline Island.

Sleeps 16 in beds/featured in both Martha Stewart Weddings, Linda Mack's new book about Madeline Island homes and featured on the Discovery Channel (Great Retreats).

Our home is located on over 900' of private lakeshore (18 acres) surrounded by beautiful white pine, maple and birch forest. The 3000 square foot home was built in 2003 from a 200 year old Vermont hay barn we had disassembled, transported and painstakingly reassembled into a luxury vacation home. The hand hewn beams inside are up to 20' in diameter and the walls are original barn board.

Enjoy our over-sized dock at sunset. Stand Up Paddle Boards and Kayaks are waiting for you at the lake... You and your kids will love swimming at the shore.

A charming treehouse for the kids and a handmade bonfire area to enjoy marshmallows and cocktails.

You will feel warm and comfortable from the moment you step inside to find a gourmet kitchen with Viking range and all of the amenities needed to relax and or entertain in grand style. Sit on the huge deck with family or friends and watch the sun set over the islands.

A perfect retreat for a couple, a wedding, a reunion or a larger group of friends looking to experience peace and quiet on Madeline Island.

We've hosted gorgeous weddings, family retreats, reunions and honeymoons. We take extra pains to make sure your needs are met. (caretakers are down the road!)

The Barn is truly a work of art that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

We are 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. There are tennis courts available as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. Moped, kayak and bicycle rental also available. Take the ferry over to Bayfield for a day trip of shopping and dinner out.

Available for weekly (7 night minimum) rentals during July and August or shorter periods in fall, winter and spring (3 night minimum).

This review sums up your future experience at our home:

"The home was BEAUTIFUL. It was decorated lovely, with a warm and cozy feeling. It was spacious, clean, very comfortable and the view to Lake Superior breathtaking. The home had all the amenities we needed and the gourmet kitchen was fabulous. We spent a lot of time on the huge deck, which had comfortable seating for all. The dock was large and awesome where we spent a lot of time sunbathing, taking a dip in Lake Superior to cool off and trying our skills on the paddleboard. We had a lovely time and we all agreed that it was one of our best vacations. We also want to thank the owner for calling us to make sure we had everything we needed. That's customer service at it's finest. "

What makes this cottage unique

The barn at Madeline Island is actually a 200 year old hay barn that was lovingly moved from Vermont to its new home at Madeline Island where it was turned in to a breathtaking luxury home. Featured on the Discovery Channel, Martha Stewart Weddings and the upcoming book 'Madeline Island Summer Houses' by Linda Mack.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sanders and family - A HUGE thank you for renting us your home

on Madeline Island for K&L's wedding weekend.

Here is a link to a few pictures chosen by the photographer

to post on his website:

http://carrphotography.blogspot.com/search/label/Apostle%20Islands

We thought that you might enjoy seeing these, because we all read the

framed article about your wedding and it looks like K+L were

married on the same spot!

We had a wonderful meal catered by Good Thyme and amazing flowers

all grown on the Island and arranged by Cynthia Davell of Sylvan Island Events.

Your home was the perfect spot and exactly what K + L had hoped for

when they thought about their wedding day - close to nature and very, very special.

We tried to leave your property as clean as the day we walked in. (And it

was very clean on that day!)

Thanks again for providing us the contact information for your caretaker. He was a great help by coming to pick up the extra

trash and getting the septic company to come and pump. We all felt

better knowing he was so close.

Best always,

M&P

PS - Also had a lot of fun on the kayaks (we have some at home, too!)

and LOVED the paddleboard, the dock in general and the tree house!

An amazing home with a wonderful view

  • 5 of 5

This was such a beautiful clean home, with all the amenities. So spacious and cozy. Lots to do, but our favorite was to walk down to the pier to fish and relax. Our little ones enjoyed the space so much, too. The deck was a great place for them to run and take in the scenery. Cooking was easy with the kitchen being very adequate. A very nice getaway for a family or friends looking to do nothing but relax, be active outdoors, or check out the island itself. Sanders, the owner, will take care of anything and everything you need. Always a phone call away and so helpful without feeling intrusive. We would definitely go back and stay again.

Feel in love with the area

  • 5 of 5

We were a multi-generation family of twelve and had such a good time - the best family trip (with kiddos ranging in age from 4 1/2 to 15) we've had. Lake Superior (and the dock at the barn to enjoy it) were simply beautiful. And when it comes to the kitchen and related amenities, the barn was perhaps the best rental I have stayed in.

The Barn House on Madeline Island is Pure Magic

  • 5 of 5

The Barn House on Madeline Island is pure magic! We had a very small wedding (ten people) at the house and it was absolutely perfect. We booked the home based on the beautiful photos in the listing and a few emails with Sanders and it couldn’t have gone smoother. The home is even more stunning in person and had everything we could have needed. We got married on the hill behind the house with views of Lake Superior through the trees, had an incredible dinner by Good Thyme Catering followed by an amazing cake by Harbor House Sweets. We spent five days at the house together and it was one of the most special vacations our family has ever had. I only hope we are lucky enough to stay at the Barn House again in the future – the only problem is you never want to leave. Thank you, Sanders and family - you helped us have the most incredible wedding and priceless time with our family!

Absolutely Incredible Place to Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

From the location on Madeline Island to the beautifully built home, this cabin is the perfect getaway for family and friends. No detail has been missed in Sander's amazing home. The rooms are spacious, the cabin is warm and welcoming and the views are spectacular. There is tons of room to entertain, huge fire pit for smores, and an easy walk down to the water. It's a short drive to town, but you honestly will want to spend all your time here. I also can't say enough about Sander's attention to detail and ease of communication. There is nothing to want when you're in this spectacular home, just relax and unplug. Can't wait to get back!
