Notes:
We have a wondeful carpeted sleeping loft with a double bed. Children seem to love this - BUT - we ask that no children under 10 years old be allowed in loft - and that adult supervision is maintained on children at all times around the property. This loft should not be used as a play area for children. There are no rails and there is a danger of fallng. A ladder provides access to the loft and caution should be used a all times when climbing up or down the ladder. There are two separate stairways leading to the beach. Please use caution when using, and do not allow children to play on the stairs - or run up or down stairs.

Lots of room but needs maintenance

  • 3 of 5

The lake view and Keuka waterfront, along with sleeping for 12, sold us on the property. We enjoyed having two kitchens, and two living rooms. The shaded deck and porch were pleasant and mostly clean places to relax together. The kitchen equipment is adequate for a group of 12. Having 3 bathrooms and laundry was terrific.

However, for the price, we expected it to be better maintained.

Here's a list of needed improvements.

1 the dock is treacherous, missing pieces and some boards are rotting .

2 there are spiderwebs everywhere outside, and a hornets nest that could not be eliminated, despite spraying it multiple times.

3 there was garbage in the can on the beach and the beach area needed weeding and raking.

4 the upper deck needs painting; some of the stools are falling apart, and one of ballasters on the smaller cottage is missing. We tied a snow shovel there to keep the toddler safe.

5 the insides of some kitchen cupboards is dirty.

6 the non-potable drinking water is an inconvenience. Again, for the price we paid, please provide enough water for the whole week , along with quart bottles in the bathrooms. Several people in our party had intestinal distress, which could be water-related.

7 The septic overflowed after a big rain storm, and after we reported it, it was pumped out immediately and eliminated the odor.

Perhaps as hosts ourselves we may have higher standards and higher expectations.

Owner's Response: We are very upset about your review. From before the vacation started to the end of the week, Robert and I communicated via text on a frequent basis. Our concierge did an initial walk-thru of the cottages and Robert or his wife signed off. We all asked him to let us know if ANYTHING was in need of repair or if he had any problems during his stay to contact us. We also asked him to leave a note for our maintenance and cleaning staff of anything needing attention. No note was left. Throughout his week, he only mentioned the holding tank issue-which was handled IMMEDIATELY. His texts were answered within seconds of receipt. He indicated that he too was a vacation rental owner/host, so he knows the importance of good communication and property reviews. By not communicating to us ANY of the things he mentioned in his review- left us blindsided and very upset. The water issue was petty, as we had our maintenance man bring 2 extra 5 gal jugs to the property the day after your arrival. Most guests bring bottled water with them-or buy more if needed once they arrive. This is a lake cottage-not the Marriott. Hundreds of balusters and 1 missing? When did it fall off? Tying a snow shovel to the railing? If we'd known, our man would have taken care of that immediately, and the same for bees and any dock repair. Our cleaning and maintenance staff is excellent. No complaints all summer. But to make it perfect...we need good communication! We have two kitchens with tons of cupboards. Which one was dirty? Cobwebs? We are heavily treed & they appear overnight. After next guest arrived we read this in your review. The staff "touches" everything in the cottages, and missed a dirty cabinet? All in all I'd say "someone" had a bad time for some reason. You gave us no opportunity to make it perfect! We shoot for a 5 star rating, and this year we got it - until yours. You never communicated any of these issues you mentioned in the review. Weeds on the beach? It's a rock beach and with all the rain, I suspect weeds are thriving. As a host of your own vacation rental, I am surprised that you found it acceptable to "vent" about our property in this review format-rather than send an email or text either while you were there -or even afterwards. Our homes are very special to us, and we love to share them with our guests. They are well maintained and the location is also 5 Star. It's only fair to say that you could have done a better job communicating with me.

Our Wedding Week

  • 5 of 5

We rented these 2 cottages for the week of our wedding. There were perfect from having a rehearsal dinner, getting ready for the big day & enjoying everyone's company afterwards. After our wedding (at Keuka Lake State Park Shelter - great place for a great celebration) we stayed at the cottages with our closest friends & family. We wanted to spend more time with those that traveled from various states & these cottages were perfect for that. We planned some group events (wine/beer tastings & dinners) but also had time that each family could go & do as they wanted as well. And, those friends who didn't know each other that well at the start, now have a bigger extended family now. It made our "honeymoon" week so much more fun & memorable! We couldn't have planned or dreamed of such a great week! The cottages were the perfect spot with spacious room for all to have their own space & enough space to be together as a group. The best part for us was waking up with the lake view & drinking our coffee on the deck or dock. It is so peaceful, you can't help be relaxed, We did not have that "hurried" feeling at all. (Not even when getting tot the wedding on time.) We dealt with Linda, the owner, & she was great! Any time I had a question before our stay she responded to my email within the same day. She was also available via text messages throughout the week. We had minor questions for her, & she got back to us within minutes. I would recommend this place every time! We are all still talking about how great a time we all had & that spending the extra time together was a wonderful experience. Our week at the cottages were so relaxing that no one wanted to go back home. We are already being asked to rebook it for years to come because everyone had such a great time!

Great spot for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Lakeside Cottages on Keuka Lake. The owner was very responsive and concerned of our comfort and needs while we were there. It was an ideal spot for our large family to enjoy. Great deck spaces!

Keuka treehouses was the perfect description of the cottages by one of our guests.

  • 4 of 5

I planned a Keuka vacation with my adult children and grandchildren in hopes that they would enjoy it as much as I did in my childhood. The lovely and comfortable cottages made our inaugural Keuka family vacation a complete success, guaranteed to be repeated. The large decks allowed plenty of space for entertaining as did the lakeside docks and firepit area for enjoying the lake and views. The convenient location to Hammondsport and the vineyards was perfect for exploring the breathtaking landscapes.

Location couldn't be better. Branchport has 2 small grocery stores-one with wonderful Keuka logo items to buy as souveniers (Crooked Lake Mercantile). Restaurant located in one store. Library, gas station and hardware store also located in Branchport -just 3 miles north of our cottages. Just 15 minutes to Penn Yan where you'll find banks, restaurants, drug stores, post office, hardware store and walking trails next to canal. (Goes from Penn Yan to Dundee) A scenic and fun hiking area. Hammondsport is just 11 miles south on the West Lake Road and is truly one of the coolest small towns. Several great restaurants to choose from.. a.bakery, shops, grocery store, library and a beautiful park located at the head of the lake. Pontoon boat rentals are available at the Lakeside Restaurant located just 3 miles south of cottage. The Glen Curtis Museum is a must see and is located just outside the Village of Hammondsport on Rt. 54. Also, the brand new boat museum is located on Lake St in Hammondsport in an old winery - and is also a must see for boat enthusiasts and those who love to see unique architecture. British Airways voted Rt. 54A one of the most scenic highways in the US a few years ago. Take the drive and see for yourself! Road is located very close to the lake, and the homes along the shore are something to see.
