Memories on Keuka Lake
This was our first time at the cottages on Keuka Lake. We very much enjoyed our time together especially all that the outdoors had to offer from the hot tub to the hammock to the easy access to the lake/docks. The seating at the main cottage was perfect for our 8 adults and 4 children. We loved being able to look out on the lake from anywhere on the porch. The porch at the guest house became quite the gathering place on the one day that it rained really hard. We all hung out there most of the day. If it wasn't for that covered porch we would have had to sit indoors and we all just wanted to be outside even though it was raining.
We loved the location of the fire pit and that we were able to bring our own kayaks and fishing boat to which we had easy access right at water's edge.
Sitting on the dock in the early morning hours was so quiet and calming. We even saw a few fish jumping.
We did have issue with the lack of central air-conditioning. Three out of the seven days we were there the temperature was above 90 degrees with the temperature in the kitchen on those days being close to 100 which made preparing meals almost unbearable.
Some things in the cottages really need to be updated such as the carpeting in the living rooms. The guest house living room carpeting was especially dirty with a musty smell that was apparent as you approached the door from the outside. I was very hesitant to even allow the grandchildren to play on those carpets.
We did appreciate having a washer/dryer and that there were two 5 gallon bottles of water available to us.. Kids loved the loft and hanging out up there.
There was one incident that was quite upsetting and that was that our 15 year-old granddaughter's second jump off the dock the day we arrived landed her on a cinder block that was in the water at the end of the dock. She obviously didn't see it nor did any of us expect that to be in the water at the end of the dock. She came out of the water with a huge gash on her leg. We dressed it the best we could but had to take her to an urgent care facility the next morning, the closest one being in Geneva. We had to change her dressings every day and she refused to go in the water the rest of the week which was what the 4 grandkids love to do more than anything. She will have a permanent scar no doubt about it.
We had a lovely time at the cottages. A few improvements would have made it perfect.
As you must know...we strive for 5 star and love knowing that our property worked well for you and your family! Disappointed that our carpets needed cleaning. We have a fabulous carpet cleaner on premises that should have been used to clean the carpets before you arrived. Late check-out of previous guests may have caused this not to happen. As you can imagine - when it rains - wet feet walking through the houses must have left dirt. This will be taken care of asap! I will stress to future guests to really look hard at floors and carpets, countertops, etc. during their walk thru with our concierge. If it isn't PERFECT- our cleaning staff is instructed to make it so before they leave.
Regarding a/c - we will be providing window/room air conditioners next season in each bedroom. This was a rare year of heat - and never in all of our years of renting has anyone asked for air conditioning. This, however, will be rectified next year!
Great outdoor space, beautiful natural setting
Spent two weeks at 2 Side/Side with extended family, renting both the main (upper) house and guest house. The houses are nestled among the trees on a slope, making you feel like you are living in a tree house. Deck space is very good, with lots of outdoor furniture and amazing lake views. The guest house has a covered deck, which is ideal when it rains. The hot tub near the deck of the main house is large and in good working order. The rocky beach is also ideal, with space to lounge and a fire pit surrounded by many comfortable outdoor chairs. We had a campfire every night and loved it. The canoe and kayak were also great for exploring the lake.
The indoor space is serviceable, although not outstanding. Both houses are a bit dark inside and the loft in the main house gets hot and stuffy. Kitchen in the main house was small but well stocked with dishes and pans, plus a good dishwasher. The guest house has rather small bedrooms, and the place was a bit dusty.
Oddly, some of the dressers are filled with personal belongings, making it hard to put away your own clothes. With desktops, dresser tops, and bathroom cabinets also holding personal stuff, it feels a bit as if you walked into an occupied house and took over. But overall, we had a very good time and loved the lake access and beautiful views.
So glad you all had a great time, and wanted to thank you for your detailed review. We will definitely work on getting certain personal items put away...but we do want our guests to enjoy some of our "things"..obviously not our clothes! I think you're referring to the dresser in the guest room of the main house. That dresser has always had a little sign explaining that it is a delicate antique dresser that was my grandmothers - and the one piece of furniture that we ask guests to not touch. We'll get the sign back up which will explain all that and why there were clothes in there!
Did you not find our "hidden" lights? There are multiple switches throughout the house, and some are a little hard to find - but the two track lights in the living room as well as one table lamp and the floor lamp usually is enough - at least for us. Sorry you found it dark.
Our master bedroom closet I hope was empty - as well as the drawers. If not-I wonder whose clothes were in there! We'll be more careful about this in the future! And you're right about our bathroom vanity. That is the one area we forgot to clean out!
Regarding the guest house being dusty - I'll speak to my cleaning staff. That's inexcusable! It does somehow get dusty around the TV for some reason - but other than that you shouldn't see any dust!
Great Property and convenient location on West Branch
Two very nice cottages with super views of the Bluff from the numerous decks and docks. We stayed with another family with a total of four adults and five older teenagers. Plenty of space for all of us and a more if needed. Both of our families grew up on West Bluff so we are vary familiar with the lake and the property met all of our expectations. The owner and the management staff were extremely helpful and the property was clean and neat. We will return in the future!
We'd love to see you again! You were wonderful guests!
Our Wedding Week
We rented these 2 cottages for the week of our wedding. There were perfect from having a rehearsal dinner, getting ready for the big day & enjoying everyone's company afterwards. After our wedding (at Keuka Lake State Park Shelter - great place for a great celebration) we stayed at the cottages with our closest friends & family. We wanted to spend more time with those that traveled from various states & these cottages were perfect for that. We planned some group events (wine/beer tastings & dinners) but also had time that each family could go & do as they wanted as well. And, those friends who didn't know each other that well at the start, now have a bigger extended family now. It made our "honeymoon" week so much more fun & memorable! We couldn't have planned or dreamed of such a great week! The cottages were the perfect spot with spacious room for all to have their own space & enough space to be together as a group. The best part for us was waking up with the lake view & drinking our coffee on the deck or dock. It is so peaceful, you can't help be relaxed, We did not have that "hurried" feeling at all. (Not even when getting tot the wedding on time.) We dealt with Linda, the owner, & she was great! Any time I had a question before our stay she responded to my email within the same day. She was also available via text messages throughout the week. We had minor questions for her, & she got back to us within minutes. I would recommend this place every time! We are all still talking about how great a time we all had & that spending the extra time together was a wonderful experience. Our week at the cottages were so relaxing that no one wanted to go back home. We are already being asked to rebook it for years to come because everyone had such a great time!
What can I say? Your review is heartwarming for our family. We work hard to make it the very best it can be, and a piece of heaven for those who stay on our property. Thank you, and we are all so happy that everyone enjoyed themselves. Come back to see us next year, or stay in the little cottage for a long weekend this fall!
Great spot for a family vacation
We enjoyed our stay at the Lakeside Cottages on Keuka Lake. The owner was very responsive and concerned of our comfort and needs while we were there. It was an ideal spot for our large family to enjoy. Great deck spaces!

Location couldn't be better. Branchport has 2 small grocery stores-one with wonderful Keuka logo items to buy as souveniers (Crooked Lake Mercantile). Restaurant located in one store. Library, gas station and hardware store also located in Branchport -just 3 miles north of our cottages. Just 15 minutes to Penn Yan where you'll find banks, restaurants, drug stores, post office, hardware store and walking trails next to canal. (Goes from Penn Yan to Dundee) A scenic and fun hiking area. Hammondsport is just 11 miles south on the West Lake Road and is truly one of the coolest small towns. Several great restaurants to choose from.. a.bakery, shops, grocery store, library and a beautiful park located at the head of the lake. Pontoon boat rentals are available at the Lakeside Restaurant located just 3 miles south of cottage. The Glen Curtis Museum is a must see and is located just outside the Village of Hammondsport on Rt. 54. Also, the brand new boat museum is located on Lake St in Hammondsport in an old winery - and is also a must see for boat enthusiasts and those who love to see unique architecture. British Airways voted Rt. 54A one of the most scenic highways in the US a few years ago. Take the drive and see for yourself! Road is located very close to the lake, and the homes along the shore are something to see.
