The studio shares a private front yard and has its own BB-Q grill and picnic table with a large umbrella for shade. The unit has a three piece private bath with linens.

Our efficiencies are located ideally for fishing in the Florida Keys. Grassy Key has quick and easy access to fishing both on the Atlantic and the Bay side (the bridge for bay side access is 1/2 mile away). You can fish by boat on the flats a couple hundred yards from our dock for Bonefish, Tarpon and small Sharks. Shallow reefs only a mile or two away offer Yellowtail, Mangrove snapper, and Mackerel in abundance. The Gulf Stream offers Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna, Sailfish, you name it. This is a boating and fisherman’s paradise
Lobster can be found under rocks and ledges on both the Atlantic as well as the Bay side (during season).
Fishing from the Jetty is a lot of fun. There are small sharks, Tarpon, various Snappers and Grunt.
Our marina provides easy access to shallow water bordered by mangroves, and some small mangrove islands less than a mile from the marina. This is a great area to Kayak, you frequently see small baby sharks, tarpon, rays and a variety of tropical fish and birds. Duck Key Island is about 2 miles from our dock.
Kayaks can be rented at marina located directly across the street.
Grassy key has some quiet streets suitable for biking. Bikes can be rented at marina located directly across the street.
Snorkeling is fantastic at numerous nearby reefs and state marine parks (Coffin Patch Reef, Sombrero Reef). Several Snorkel-Boats leave Duck-Key and Marathon for daily trips to the nearby reef.
A shared community pool is available to you, it is located a minute or two walking distance within our park grounds.
A community coin laundry facility is located a minute or two walking distance within our park grounds.
Great place to meet the locals and other visitors. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine during informal "happy-hour"
Within our park, there is a jetty stretching a few hundred yards out into the ocean, great for star gazing at night, sunbathing during the day or fishing day or night.
WiFi is available (and it is free)

Engineer and High School teacher. We are a married couple who enjoys fishing, traveling, good music (ie New Orleans Jazz Fest), cooking (ie fish on the BBQ)
We work hard, then escape from the real world and go to the Florida Keys as often as we can.

We invested in our rental-units after visiting Florida Keys for 20 years. We decided that Marathon, Grassy Key, is the ultimate Keys location. People are nice and relaxed, it is the place you go when you want to get away from the 'rat-race'. Fishing, Lobstering and snorkeling is phenomenal. While Islamorada and Key West are fun places to visit, you will find the Marathon area more quiet, it's the best part of the Florida Keys. Key West is only an hour drive away, take a day-trip.
Enjoy our private setting. Listen to the birds, gaze at the stars at night, mingle with friendly people who are in the Keys to have a relaxing and good time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in #9. Description is completely accurate. It's a very good value for price (for the Keys). Very easy check-in process--no need to negotiate an exact time for check-in or out. The photos make the unit and grounds look a little frumpy but actually they are cute and lovely. The owner really puts a lot of effort into making the yard and interior very attractive, highly functional and comfortable. Everything was immaculately clean. Thank you, Housekeeper! Strong air conditioning. Plenty of supplies. I cooked meals in the kitchen easily. Probably for health reasons, no food was left in the unit for us to use. The wifi worked fairly well--good on my laptop, so-so on my phone--better on the porch where the router is located. We aren't familiar with using satellite TV but got the hang of it. Unless I'm missing something, you need to wait quite a while for channel information to load. The beds are firm and comfortable; however, a tall or large person might find them too small. There are trailers and other residences quite near the unit, but there weren't many other residents around (even in December) and it was perfectly quiet and private. The no-see-ums were pretty bad in the yard. Skin-so-soft repellent worked better than Off. I saw online that some people recommend using various essential oils as repellant, so you may want to investigate that in advance. I insisted in sitting in the lovely yard despite the bugs and came home with tons of bites. However, it depends on the person--the bugs didn't bother my husband at all. I know no-see-ums are a problem in Florida and many parts of the country, so you'll find them many places. The walk to the jetty and the jetty itself were great--very natural with hardly a man-made structure in sight. Mangroves. Beautiful. Lots of birds and sea creatures. It was often breezy/windy at the jetty which kept the bugs away. The area is nice--north side of Marathon. There are things to do in the area (plenty of stores and restaurants too) and you can drive to Key West in 90 minutes or so. In conclusion, if you want to spend a lot of time outside & are susceptible to bug bites or if you wouldn't be comfortable on a twin bed, this might not be the best place for you. However, if these things wouldn't be issues for you, unit 9 is an absolutely perfect place for an affordable Keys vacation. Highly recommended!
We recently stayed in unit 9 for one week, and loved every minute of it. The park that the units are located in is very well kept, and the residents definitely show pride in ownership. The beds were comfortable, the A/C worked very well, the kitchen was fully stocked, and best of all was the outside area. The landscaping is beautiful, and the birds plentiful! So many flowers! The patio was pretty private, and each unit has it's own gas grill for bar-b-que dinners. The units feature original artwork and hand crafted furniture, which was really cool. Hans and Lisa were there on the weekend, and were friendly and accommodating. The jetty is at the end of a picturesque, tree covered path, and it was one of my favorite things about this place. You can see a bunch of fish, horseshoe crabs, and even a small shark! It's the perfect place to go at the end of the day, to watch the sunset. The pool was very clean and the water was warm. I can't say enough about this place!
The only bad thing was the noseeums. Not too many mosquitos, but the noseeums ate me up. I came up with a solution that I recommend to everyone: wear long sleeves, pants, and socks at night and in the morning. I brought a very light long sleeve button up blouse, and it kept them off of me, along with leggings and footie socks with sandals. Quite the sight, I know, but the park is so quiet that nobody really saw me. :) This little precautionary measure enabled me to take walks at night to star gaze. To be fair, noseeums are a problem pretty much anywhere in the Keys. Just dress for them.
If the opportunity arises again-and I'm sure it will-I will definitely stay here. Grassy Key is close enough to Marathon that you have everything you need, and far enough away to be away from the crowds. Sombrero Beach is the perfect beach-not too crowded, shallow water that is crystal clear, and lots of trees at the South end for shade.
It's a neat, clean room with a well equipped kitchenette. Walk out the door to the fishing area or enjoy just sitting looking at the water. The owners of the properties take pride in keeping the park looking good. It is a well kept friendly park with a nice atmosphere. We have stayed before and would come back again.
What an amazing place to stay!! From the start, Hans was always quick to reply to any questions we had about the rental and was extra helpful!! When we arrived, the place was spotless and so beautifully decorated!!! It also already had anything we could need...All we had to do was buy the groceries we wanted! The locals were also very nice and friendly, giving us plenty of fishing tips, as well as recommendations on the best restaurants to try and we were always very pleased! If we are ever lucky enough to take vacation in the Keys again, there is absolutely no way we would ever consider staying anywhere else!! Fabulous place! Thank you for your hospitality, Hans and Lisa!!

Thank you for making us feel welcome, we had a fabulous time and the efficiency was wonderful! I can't think of a thing that Hans and Lisa could do to improve their rental; it was very clean and well kept. We loved the quite friendly community it felt like a home away from home. Our only regret is that we could have stayed longer as we did not have enough time to do everything we wanted to do. I would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay, we will be back again!
From the start the communication with Hans was top notch. Being new to this area of Fla we wanted a place to come back to that was low key and welcoming. This was it. The tenants at Lion's Lair were super informative and friendly. Even invited us to sunrise service and Easter brunch to follow. About an hour from Key West we able to travel for day trips. Place was super clean and the air conditioner kept us cool on a hot hot week. Pool was a perfect temp. Kitchen had everything we needed. Would denfinately recommend this efficiency to anyone. Cost was right, area was right, and Hans knows what he is doing. Thanks again.
