  • Simply Perfect!

"My family had the best time at Key Lime Kottage in June. Our two teenagers and two toddlers had the best time in the pool and hot tub. We enjoyed kayaking from the dock to the mangroves and watching the juvenile fish and nurse sharks, parrot fish, and horseshoe crabs wonder around the dock. The sunsets from the dock were also incredible. The house had every single amenity we could ever ask for, and that's saying a lot since our family has such a range in ages/needs. There was a pack and play, high chair, and even a potty for the little kids. The beds were very comfortable, the house was very clean, the kitchen was well equipped, the TVs were awesome, and the games in the living room were an added bonus. There were bonus memory foam pillows in the master bedroom for those who don't like the soft fluffy pillows (like me). Our kids had a lot of fun feeding the iguanas (there were at least 6 wondering around at times). We took advice from others and went to The Wreck next store for lunch and dinner, and of course the famous key lime pie. I have to say that the pie has to be the best in the World! It's a must-try. The food was also very good, and the location of the restaurant was so convenient. If we had stayed at the house the entire vacation and not done anything, we still would have had the best time! A few things we do recommend doing are taking a boat tour with Family Fun Boat Tours in Islamorada. We took a four hour private boat trip with sightseeing and snorkeling, and it was awesome. All of the kids loved it, even the 2 and 4 year old got in the ocean for a little whiile when we snorkeled. Captain Kathy also watched the little kids for a time on the boat while we snorkeled. We also went to Key West for a day and recommend going to the Hemmingway house. We went to Sombrero Beach and Bahia Honda state park. The state park was excellent for little kids and snorkeling, but arrive early to get a good spot on the tiny beach. Overall, this was one of our favorite summer vacations, especially because we stayed at Key Lime Kottage! Thanks to Maria for answering all my questions and for sharing such an amazing property with us!"

  • Spectacularly located & outfitted

"One week was not enough. We were just getting into the 'keys mindset' as the week ended -- but luckily, we had booked for two weeks! If you are looking for nightlife, this is not the place. But if you want to rewind, relax, and enjoy nature while not compromising on comfort, this is a perfect spot. Sunsets are amazing -- from dock, pool, porch, bedrooms ... virtually anywhere on the property except the driveway. We rented a skiff for a few days, but actually enjoyed being at the house more. Very private spot in residential neighborhood. Great fishing from the dock. Wonderful pool and spa. We had a spotted eagle ray basking in the shallows near the dock one evening that must have had a 6 foot span across. Lobsters under the dock come out at night -- bring a good flashlight to spot their eyes in the water. Kayaking over to the mangroves (a good distance but easy going near the shore's wind shadow) brought lots more fish sightings (including young nurse sharks) and many birds. I wish that I had spent more time over there! We have spent a lot of time in the caribbean over the years and this was by far one of our best escapes. June is hot and humid in the keys even in SC terms -- you acclimate quickly, but be sure to hydrate, and as mentioned AC worked flawlessly in the house. Also, a quick dip in pool or bay cools you quickly!"

  • Perfect Getaway

"We recently stayed in unit 9 for one week, and loved every minute of it. The park that the units are located in is very well kept, and the residents definitely show pride in ownership. The beds were comfortable, the A/C worked very well, the kitchen was fully stocked, and best of all was the outside area. The landscaping is beautiful, and the birds plentiful! So many flowers! The patio was pretty private, and each unit has it's own gas grill for bar-b-que dinners. The units feature original artwork and hand crafted furniture, which was really cool. Hans and Lisa were there on the weekend, and were friendly and accommodating. The jetty is at the end of a picturesque, tree covered path, and it was one of my favorite things about this place. You can see a bunch of fish, horseshoe crabs, and even a small shark! It's the perfect place to go at the end of the day, to watch the sunset. The pool was very clean and the water was warm. I can't say enough about this place! The only bad thing was the noseeums. Not too many mosquitos, but the noseeums ate me up. I came up with a solution that I recommend to everyone: wear long sleeves, pants, and socks at night and in the morning. I brought a very light long sleeve button up blouse, and it kept them off of me, along with leggings and footie socks with sandals. Quite the sight, I know, but the park is so quiet that nobody really saw me. :) This little precautionary measure enabled me to take walks at night to star gaze. To be fair, noseeums are a problem pretty much anywhere in the Keys. Just dress for them. If the opportunity arises again-and I'm sure it will-I will definitely stay here. Grassy Key is close enough to Marathon that you have everything you need, and far enough away to be away from the crowds. Sombrero Beach is the perfect beach-not too crowded, shallow water that is crystal clear, and lots of trees at the South end for shade."
