Beautifully Restored Mid-century Modern Condo With Mountain And Pool Views

Bedrooms 2
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom 1 Bathroom, Mountain And Pool Views.

Welcome to our home away from home. In 2013 we visited the racquet club garden villas and fell in love with the property. Once you enter the gated community of 37 condos its like stepping into a lovely oasis. Each of the units are each nestled away along a beautiful stream that runs from the main pool space down toward the old racquet club to the far end. We purchased this free standing condo and just recently completed a total restoration.

Our unit has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The furnishings we selected are all mid-century modern. Both the master and the guest bedroom feature a custom built walnut platform bed. Each having large storage space underneath the bed frame. The master features a king size mattress and the second bedroom has a queen size mattress. Both have very comfortable mattresses with high end linens and pillows.

The kitchen has everything you would need to make a home cooked meal. The cabinets are all black walnut with solid surface countertops.

The bathroom features white Italian marble and the shower has a standard shower head and two body sprays.

There three patios to choose from...One large space off the master bedroom with two chaise lounge chairs. The second large patio is off the main living and kitchen area with seating and dining for 4. The last patio is off the dining area and has a small sitting area for 2 people.

In February 2018 this unit will be featured during modernism week and the tour of the historical racquet club garden villas.

In 2013, the racquet club garden villas received the 3rd ever city of palm springs historic district designation. This community will forever be preserved for generations to come and enjoy this lovely oasis that seems to take you back in time.

The history: the racquet club garden villas were constructed in 1959 adjacent to the famous palm springs racquet club as an overflow for hollywood celebrities and visitors alike who wished to have a more extended stay near the famed tennis club.

The racquet club garden villas has a triple pedigree:

1. Architect: William Cody

2. Contractor: Paul Trousdale

3. Landscape Architect: Phil Shipley

There are 37 units nestled in lush, verdant landscaping, with a beautiful stream running throughout the property. The condominiums were designed using post and beam architecture. Each unit having large expanses of windows and glass. With a significant deal of attention paid to the layout and orientation on the property. The racquet club was the place to see and be seen in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. Marilyn monroe was said to have been discovered by the pool at the racquet club.

THIS IS A SMALL, QUIET COMMUNITY. If you are looking for a place to have parties or loud music by the pool, this isn't the place for you. For us, and the rest of the residents, this is a relaxing retreat (with an emphasis on treat!) from the outside world.

About Alisse Ellis

Brent And I are both interested in and inspired by mid-century modern architecture and design. We live in Norman, Oklahoma and both work in the design and construction business. We spend as much time as possible in Palm Springs and enjoy lazy afternoons at the pool.

Why Alisse Ellis chose Palm Springs

We fell in love with the Racquet Club Garden Villas after going on a tour of the complex during the 2012 Modernism Week. We had been looking for a second home in Palm Springs, but we had been looking at houses. During the tour, we checked out a few open houses and we were sold! This is such a quiet, peaceful place for a getaway and the people are so nice. We enjoy waking up and having an incredible view of the San Jacinto mountains, and relaxing by the pool in the afternoons. The property feels so secluded, yet we can be downtown looking around the shops or eating at one of our favorite restaurants in a few minutes.

Fabulous place! Kept waiting for Dinah Shore to come out of the bathroom! Really fun.

Only complaint was the pool was quite dirty for about half of our stay.

Amazing condo in Palm Springs

  • 5 of 5

From the time we opened the door and walked in we were so impressed with this beautifully decorated, comfortable unit. When we awoke the first morning we enjoyed the view of the mountains and palm trees from the bedroom. It is close to the pool and hot tub, which we used each day. The main patio has a wall of red flowers, making it private and peaceful. It is a short drive to downtown. We hate to leave and hope to return next winter!

Comfort in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Hate to leave this beautiful mid-century modern place. Spacious, comfortable, tastefully decorated. Steps from the lushly landscaped, low-key pool area. A perfect spot to get some vitamin D and chill out. Communication with owner / onsite manager was flawless. We hope to return next year.

It was absolutely heavenly waking up to the sound of a nearby water stream, the sight of palm trees and mountains from a cozy bed, in a perfectly decorated, well thought out villa. This villa is tucked away in a gated community that feels like it is its own world; but, at the same time, it is conveniently located near everything you could want or need in Palm Springs.

This villa is perfectly located...literally across from the community pool, which is never crowded. It is also next to the stream that runs through the community.

It has floor-to-ceiling windows throughout that bring in the bright, beautiful cheerfulness from the outside (blinds are also available for privacy). It also has 3 private courtyards perfect for sunning, dinners, drinks or playing outside for young children.

The villa was extremely clean, well laid out and well designed. I'm very particular about cleanliness, and it was as if no one had ever stayed in the place but us. The design and flow is beautiful, adding to the relaxing vibe. Every little detail about it was special; nothing was overlooked.

If you are looking for the Palm Springs vibe, a relaxing vacation and a special getaway, I highly recommend a stay here. I previously vacationed at The Parker and recommend this over it without hesitation.

To me it was perfection.

Our family had a fantastic time staying at this villa. It is in a great location and close to all that Palm Springs has to offer. The owners have done a great job to decorate the villa with mid century modern furniture furniture. The views of the mountains and pool are nice features.

We stayed for a week and had a great time here. The house is clean, modern, thoughtfully furnished and each of the patios offer a lovely quiet oasis to be outside. The community pool and spa area is surrounded by gardens and set against the mountain view and as it was a quiet week here, we almost had it to ourselves.

We really like to cook and found the kitchen was very well equipped for a week, we had a few ideas of extra* things we might have liked available if we were staying longer and a grill would be a nice addition. (*I'll email you Allisse).

We got to see the very attentive Don in action when we had a little electric power trouble and he was here within 5 minutes & figured it all out for us in a cheerfully determined way.

Highlights of things we enjoyed outside the complex - a Modern Tour of houses with Michael Stern culminating in a visit to Frey House 2, Hiking in the Canyons and a road trip to The North Shore Beach and Yacht Club at the Salton Sea (recommend reading up about this first as it's not for everyone).

We're packing up to leave as I write this, and I wish we were staying another week!
