Overview

About the property

1900 Sq Ft Cottage With 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom With Walkout Lakefront Access

Come and enjoy this rare combination of vintage charm and modern amenities with 200 ft. of expansive walkout water frontage. Located on a quiet narrow paved lane that curves along the lake and makes for lovely morning or evening strolls, the cottage's quaint front porch welcomes you into a main floor that opens out to high ceilings, hardwood floors, and gorgeous views of the lake. The spacious, fully-stocked country kitchen with modern appliances flows into the living room with granite and stone fireplace and comfortable oversized leather furniture. You'll have exclusive use of the lakeside yard, dock, and boat slip, and an easy-access boat launch is adjacent to property. Enjoy striking sunrise, sunset and night sky views as you grill out on the lakeside patio with fire pit and beautifully tiled picnic table. Play horseshoes, badminton, or croquet in the huge yard that's fenced in to keep your kids and/or pets safe (as long and they don't swim away!). If you need anything, your hosts are right next door in the caretaker's cabin, otherwise your privacy will be respectfully maintained.

That's just the house! Then there's the lake itself and all the water activities you can enjoy on it, the Ludington State Park that just a short boat- or car-ride away, and it's just a quick 15-minute drive into downtown Ludington for excellent shopping, dining, and other tourist attractions.

About Laura Lyons & Will Rappman

Your hosts Will & Laurie (and their dogs Bruno & Mona) welcome you!

Laura Lyons & Will Rappman purchased this cottage in 1976

Why Laura Lyons & Will Rappman chose Ludington

Laurie and her parents moved from the Chicago area into this lovely home in 1976 when Laurie 12 years old, and she lived here until she graduated high school. In the 90s Laurie moved back to the area with her fiance Will, they got married in the yard by the water, and eventually inherited the home. With a growing family they added on the upstairs level, but once it was just the two of them again, they realized they could share their love of their home with others by renting it out weekly and staying in what used to be called the 'guest cottage' next door (now renamed it the 'caretaker's cabin'). Will and Laurie hope to see you soon!

Beautiful House, love the lake

  • 5 of 5

Overall our stay at the Craftsman Cottage last week was great. My family had a great time, spent plenty of time on the water and enjoying as much as we could that Ludington could offer. Having camped at the State Park my wife and I were pretty familiar with the area. The house was great, love the character of an old house! Will and Laura were great hosts and Will was very attentive to any of the needs we had. We had one minor issue that he jumped on and worked hard at fixing as fast as he could without affecting our stay and I must say he did a great job. The lake and the property was great, love the view from the house. Because of the breeze off the lake most days made the house inside very pleasant with the big windows. Fishing on the lake although for August which usually isn't a great month for catching large numbers we were able to find fish everyday! This is definitely someplace we would recommend to friends as a place to come stay if they are looking for a vacation rental like this. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 young kids and a dog! I had my boat with and my dad had his boat with and there was plenty of space to park and have access to power for charging batteries. Over all it's a very nice setup and really made it easy to stay!

WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect for everything we wanted to do. The view from the house to the lake was just gorgeous. The peer had a bench you could sit on and enjoy the view and had stairs leading down off the peer for swimming, plus room for your boat. The yard was very spaceous, had a fire pit, bar and grill. The inside of the house had everything we needed to feel comfortable plus additional surprises that other cabins/houses do not offer (TV,cable,wi-fi,air conditioning, etc). The big walk in shower was fabulous. My family and I can not wait to go back next year. Roberta Dec.

A fantastic week!!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a perfect get away! It accommodated the six of us perfectly and it was great to have the two dogs stay with us. The grill and fire pit down by the lake are a bonus. We loved spending time out there watching the boats go by. Speaking of boats, we rented a pontoon boat from the marina just a half mile away and had a fabulous day on the lake. The food at the marina restaurant was good too. We definitely would like to come back!

We had a wonderful time, relaxed and fun!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Laura and Will's house. They are so nice and helpful. We have a one year old and were so surprised to find that they even have playpen and high chair ready. The backyard of this house is so calm and beautiful. Hamlin lake is much larger than we have thought. Will provide both canoe and motor boat for his guests. It is a lot of fun to take the boat out and enjoy the lake. There are lot of fish in the Hamlin lake. It is quite easy to fish here and even people like us who had never done any fishing before and easily catch a few. It is super easy to go to the state park, which provides a lot of nice hiking trails on Lake Michigan shore, next to Hamlin Lake, or in the woods. You will not regret at all if you have the chance to rent this house for vacation.

Spacious and well maintained

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at Craftsman cottage. Both the cottage and yard provided lots of space and were in very nice condition. We had plenty of space for seven people and two dogs. The kitchen is well equipped with many appliances and kitchen tools which allowed us to make all meals there, or outside on the grill which offered the option of either gas or charcoal.

There was plenty of seating inside and outside for meals, a large dock to relax on, and an outdoor fire pit for roasting marshmallows at night.

If you have active dogs, then this is the place for you. Our labs absolutely loved this place and the fenced in yard and water access made this vacation the best week of their lives!

We enjoyed some time on the water and made use of the fishing boat at the cottage and also rented a pontoon boat from a nearby marina.

Overall, this was a great vacation spot to relax and enjoy time with family!

The cottage is beautiful and a wonderful location. The owner Will?

  • 3 of 5

I will make this an objective truthful review. First of all the cottage is very nice, one of the best we've rented. The location is top shelf and all the extra entertainment items are very cool (horse shoes, Bacce ball, grille deck and bar, etc.).

The owners do live 15ft. away which initially I thought would be really nice, after day 1 not so cool. You are renting their home so you will be very closely monitored how you use it, hopefully it is within their standards. We rented a "house" to be able to use it as I would use my "house" otherwise I would rent a smaller cottage, that being said we invited our family for a Sunday picnic, (the only weekend day available). We had 17 adults and children for a couple of hours during the day and all had a great time, only 7 of us stayed the night. Monday morning I approached Will letting him know we used 3 more pieces of wood than the allotted purchasable bundles he had available-------He began with 20 minutes of an out of body rant accusing me lying to his wife about how many people we would have on the property (we rented it a year ago so have an accurate itinerary of your projected use and guests), abusing the septic system by flushing too much (he was counting the refreshments we were consuming), running the air conditioners when he thought we shouldn't (they were running when we showed up), leaving lights on he felt were not needed (switches in the house turn on lights at opposite ends even outside) etc. etc. Most of his requests were valid just presented like a 12 year old and could have started with a tiny bit of professionalism, six of the evenings we had 5 occupants so abuse was not our intent and we made as many corrections as we could.

With all the odd beginnings we did have a grand week and I hope this review is helpful to others. Mr. Will should reconsider renting his home, there are better ways to just make money.
