Just an amazing time! Thank you both so much. The lock system was brilliant. We will be back!
We recently spent four weeks in Maui, staying at Ron Gess' beautiful Island Sands condo in Maalaea. The view from the condo cannot be beaten - the sound of the waves, the rustle of the coconut trees, the turtles feeding right below you and the humpback whales putting on their shows further out. The welcoming wine and coffee left for us after arriving just before midnight was a great touch, and when we asked if there was a floor fan available, Ron went out and bought a new one and delivered it that afternoon. What service! The condo has everything you'd have at home and the bed is so comfortable my husband didn't get up most mornings until nine! We love Maalaea because it doesn't have the hustle and bustle of Kihei itself, but still has Sugar Beach with miles and miles of wonderful walking and splashing along in the surf. We'll definitely return to this beautiful place.
We really enjoyed our 4 days at Ron's condo... which is just the right size and location for a couple visiting all that Maui has to offer but on a bit of a budget. Condo is up on the 5th floor facing the Maalaea Bay, with sweeping and private balcony view of Haleakala volcano and the expansive bay. We loved just opening the balcony sliding door to hear the waves crashing. You are as close as you can get to the water. Island Sands is an easy short walk to Haycraft Park in one direction, with its access to the soft sandy beach that runs the entire length of the huge bay (there is a tiny spit of sand in front of the condo, but otherwise rocky). Ron's condo has quite a few beach essentials on the balcony- beach chairs, boogie boards etc. (good call Ron!). It poured rain our first two days, and thus the water our front was murky from the stream runoff (go find a 100 other beaches... its Maui after all!). An easy walk in the other direction down the quiet street is the Maui Aquarium- an excellent and worthwhile point of interest, especially if the weather doesn't cooperate.
Maalaea is centrally located on the island for equivalent access to tourist items on the north, west or southeast. Condo is just as pictured in the accurate photos - nice bathroom, kitchen, fast wifi internet, large TVs. Only negative item we noted was that bedroom wall is up against the outside walkway, with standard Hawaiian glass vents floor to ceiling- unfortunately, these really seal and thus don't block out the noise. Early morning voices outside and the first jets on approach to OGG woke us up much too early twice out of the four mornings. I noticed some other condo owners have replaced these glass vent slats with sealed glass blocks... but a small price to pay for a solid, quality Maui oceanfront condo for a couple looking for easy access to all island options, but wanting fantastic views to start and end the day.
Ron was incredibly responsive, easy to work with, and went out of his way to surprise us with some thoughtful welcome items. Very recommended and would return.
Great place to stay it was a little noisey because of the remodeling that is going on but I still give it 5 stars ....centrally located which was great condo was well furnished we will definitely stay again.
I enjoyed staying at the Island Sands in this 5th floor condo with awesome views of Maalaeawa Harbor and I believe Haleakala across the bay (I know that sounds weird, but I believe that was the direction. The unit was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. We had come from a condo that didn't have a/c at a timeshare nearby, and we liked the cool breezes, that we never turned the a/c on at this condo. It was nice sitting out on the balcony and gazing at the water and the mountains. We also enjoyed eating at Beach Bums closeby. They had awesome happy hour drinks for $3 and they didn't hold back on the liquor! The condo is close to a lot of things, so we explored down south of the condo, in the Kihei area. We did enjoy Dukes Beach House and Fleetwood's on Front in Lahaina. I really like Dukes, both in Waikiki and Maui. Ron was easy to work with, and I highly recommend his condo! Mahalo!
Nice, quiet location, very clean, and made for a comfortable stay.
World class Aquarium close by.
