About Dennis & Ali

We are long-time Florida (Sunshine State) residents - and our 'Tropical Retreat' is just 18 miles from our Home, which allows us to be responsive to the needs of all our wonderful guests. We take great pride in our Property. It's been been completely redecorated with brand new furnishings throughout, complimented by all of the quality amenities of home. Just bring your clothes and a toothbrush - and it's OK to leave your shoes at home!

Dennis & Ali purchased this house in 2014

Why Dennis & Ali chose Tarpon Springs

It's simply a 'model' home – pristine, cozy, spacious and casual elegance throughout! From the moment we first visited this home, the 'WOW' factor caught our attention. A great 'home away from home' for us, and for all of our wonderful Guests. The nearby Tarpon Springs Greektown District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 as Florida’s first official Traditional Cultural Property. It is significant for its tenacious continuity of traditional culture, extensive Greek infrastructure, and as the only Greek American community based on the sponge industry.

What makes this house unique

Travel & Leisure magazine recently included Tarpon Springs among the “most European cities” in the United States. The list included Boston, DC, and San Francisco, but anyone who has been to Tarpon would probably acknowledge that as far as resembling some portion of Europe, it is in a class by itself.

The area was inhabited by Greeks over a hundred years ago, predominantly from the Dodecanese islands of Kalymnos, Chalki, and Symi, as the new settlers were able to ply their trade of sponge diving – which they honed on the Greek islands – in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tarpon’s historic and picturesque Sponge Docks feature an array of fishing and sponging boats moored at the Anclote River, with a plethora of restaurants and gift shops, most emitting Greek music from their loudspeakers all day long, situated along the Docks’ main thoroughfare, Dodecanese Boulevard.

This idyllic, almost mythical community welcomes droves of tourists by day – most of them not of Greek descent – who populate the restaurants and gift shops, take tours on the boats, and walk along the Boulevard, enjoying maritime scents amid mild, tropical breezes. Nearby are the beach towns of Clearwater, Dunedin, and St. Petersburg.

Even Better than Expected!!

  • 5 of 5

We were forced to find a place to stay between selling our house and buying a house which required a temporary rental for 3 months. After submitting my inquiry, I heard back immediately and they were happy to accommodate our needs. The pictures were very nice but never having seen the house, we weren't quite sure what to expect. My family was very pleasantly surprised and happy that I had found such a nice place for us to live during the transition. The house was very clean and extremely well equipped and furnished. No matter what we looked for in the kitchen, it was there. The appliances were newer and worked extremely well. They had beautiful bikes in the garage that allowed us to ride to one of the two beaches nearby regularly. The owners were very quick to respond if we had any questions and they take pride in this home. We have stayed at other VRBO's in the past but this house ranks on the top of our list. If you are considering it, you can book it without hesitation! Thanks Dennis and Ali!

Owner's Response: We are as pleased as we are humbled by such a thoughtful review from such wonderful Guests. What's most important to us is that our Guests are never disappointed when it comes to comparing our Pictures and Descriptions to what they discover upon arrival. And to be just a phone call, text or email away whenever a need arises. From day one, these folks treated our property as "home sweet home" in every respect, taking great care just like it was there home. We're pleased that their stay was enjoyable, as we too enjoyed them as Guests!

This is a great place and is a wonderful place to stay. The owners are gracious hosts and maintain a warm and welcoming house. Of course, it's location 2 blocks from the sea doesn't hurt either. We loved it!

A little bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely time staying in such a perfect holiday home, you wake up every morning to brilliant sunshine. Breakfast in the garden each morning, the house has all you ever need to make your stay a relaxing time. No need to go out if you wish to just stay in and chill. But if you do you are right there in the middle of things just a sort walk to the beaches.

And if you feel the child in you there are bicycles there for you to use even a tandem if you want your other half to do all the work.

We will be coming back again for sure came home very relaxed shame we had to leave. We would recommend this beautiful home in a heartbeat but not to much as we want dates left for us to come again A big thank you Ali & Dennis for the chance to have a fantastic time away.

Tranquil Sunsets

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the villa between mid February through to the end of April We went to see the place before we rented it and had high expectations judging from the outside. We were certainly not disappointed. It was clean with a very well equipped kitchen and laundry facilities, with a TV in all the rooms, easy to operate aircon, in fact everything we could wish for. The area is very quiet and peaceful, a great location for Sunset and Howard Park beaches, we actually walked to both but if you prefer you could cycle on the bicycles provided. The Pinellas Trail is not too far away withTarpon Sponge Docks and Wall Springs Park a very pleasant ride.

Dennis & Ali were very friendly and accommodating and seemed to be on top of things. All in all we had a most enjoyable stay

Owner's Response: It gives us great pleasure to welcome new Guests to our Vacation Home, particularly those as thoughtful and friendly as the Burtons. From day one, they treated our home as they would their own, taking great care of everything and keeping us closely informed of anything needing attention. While they arrived as Guests, they left as friends with whom we will not only stay in touch, but whom we would gladly welcome back!

We have rented from Ali and Dennis for 4 years now and their rental is great, very well cared for and they make improvements every. The location is close to the gulf and close enough to everything you want in the Tarpon Springs area. We love it and plan to come back next year!

Owner's Response: After welcoming Tom and Mary year after year, we look upon them not as Guests but rather as "old friends" who come to visit every season! They treat our home as they would their own and are simply a pleasure in every respect.

Vacation in Florida in this spacious & elegantly decorated winter retreat! Experience Tarpon Springs, the best Mediterranean getaway in Central Florida. Tarpon Springs is not only a historic and picturesque city; it is full of lively and delightful people. Surrounded by old mansions and enriched with Mediterranean heritage, Tarpon Springs has the perfect blend of culture, entertainment and history. At the turn of the century, Greek sponge divers brought the culture that exists today. A hidden vacation gem in Central Florida's West Coast. There is plenty to do such as boating, abundant beaches, state parks, golfing, deep sea fishing,… visiting the famous Sponge Docks, fabulous dining at various restaurants, antique shopping, biking, swimming, boating and watching the sunsets from one of the many bayous that feed into the Gulf of Mexico. Library, tennis courts, a meat market and grocery store, The Scenic Pinellas Trail (a 37 mile path that runs from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg for walking, jogging, running, biking, rollerblading ), the Tarpon Spring Trolley which tours the towns most famous landmarks, and more. Plus, there are two fantastic beaches (Sunset Beach and Fred Howard Park Beach) within 2 miles of the home.

After traveling all the way to Florida, most families prefer to spend their time enjoying themselves. This is why you will love our home because unlike the vast majority of other rental houses where you must pack up the car and drive to everything, from our home you can walk to almost everything including: The World Famous Sponge Docks with its fine award winning restaurants and specialty gift shops, bakeries, deep-sea fishing boats, sponge fishing tour boat, Dolphin Watch Island Tour Boat, Kayak rentals, boat rentals, antique shops, a winery, and historic district with red brick streets, exquisite victorian homes, art galleries, day spa, hair salon, scenic Spring Bayou, Craig Park, Sunset Beach, Howard Park...

Why vacation just anywhere in Florida when you can experience the quaint and peaceful village of Tarpon Springs, which is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. Tarpon Springs is Pinellas County’s oldest town and was incorporated in 1887. Tarpon Springs is located in a part of Florida nicked named the Sun Coast as it averages over 300+ days of sunshine. The town has over 51 miles of waterfront and an average annual temperature is 72.8 degrees. There are no highrise hotels and condos in Tarpon to crowd your family vacation, and there are 2 public beaches and 9 parks in Tarpon Springs alone.
