We bought are home in November 2000. With friends originally in the area, we had been visiting Hayward for over 10 years prior to our cabin's purchase. Over the years we have made many improvements to our home, most significantly our basement, kitchen, and our bathroom. We enjoy our cabin, Moose Lake, and Hayward very much and would love for others to have the same enjoyable experiences that we have year after year. We attempt to provide all amenities in our cabin that are needed for a relaxing visit. We have 3 children who won't even let us consider selling and relocating somewhere closer; it's a home filled with many memories and good times. Our future renters can be assured that our place is maintained in a way that is reflective of our own standards since, whenever it's not being rented out, we vacation there as well.
Kevin and Joanne Renfro purchased this house in 2000
Why Moose Lake. It's magical! Truly. There is ample fishing, it's large enough for skiing, tubing, sailing, and shallow enough for some warm swims. Moose Lake is a seemingly Quiet Lake but without any motor restrictions. The roadways surrounding the lake have very light traffic, if any. Numerous ATV trails provide miles of motorized adventure and also carve out well groomed hiking routes. Eagles live here and are often seen flying around and also hanging on a tree branch by the dam. River otters will greet you as you kayak or canoe around the shorelines, loons can be heard in the evening. Renters have sighted both deer and even a bear swimming across the lake. Why this property? Because wilderness abounds and quiet nights, peaceful days are an actual reality.
It's true that Moose Lake is quiet and once the refrigerator is stocked, a traveler would never have to leave. However, the fortunate flip side to being only 23 miles from Hayward's city limits is that commercial entertainment is only a short drive away as well as some very fine dining opportunities. A family can have it all while staying on Moose Lake and 1 week never seems long enough!
We really enjoyed our week at the the Lazy Moose Cabin. Moose lake is beautiful. The kids enjoyed swimming and fishing off the dock. The cabin was very well stocked. We enjoyed watching movies in the basement in the evenings. The WiFi works great! It was a very comfortable cabin and we would highly recommend it!🖒 It was a very relaxing week and was just what our family needed.
Our family just completed a stay at the Lazy Moose. We were looking for a relaxing, comfortable and clean lakefront cabin to stay at (where our dog was also welcome) as our summer vacations come to an end. We found all that we were looking for….and more! No problems or complaints to report. Even the weather was awesome. Thanks to the owners for their hospitality and for allowing us to share their vacation home. If possible, we will definitely consider returning in the future.
Our experience was wonderful on Moose Lake! The cabin was beautiful and the location was great! Very clean and was nice to bring our pet along. The lake was down because they were working on the Dam. Made it a little difficult getting around on the lake without knowing the structure and boat launches were a challenge, but still had an awesome time. Would love to try it again next year! Thanks for a great getaway. :)
We stayed at the Lazy Moose and the cabin was clean, well kept, and in a perfect location. The house is very close to the water with a nice deck and a nice dock. It is a very quiet location and had a nice lake breeze most days. The fire pit at the lake edge was real nice for an evening campfire. The fishing was slow the first two days with storms but caught many smallmouth, crappie and walleyes the last few days in the evenings. Thanks for allowing our dog we could not keep her out of the water. We also saw lots of wildlife in the area, deer, grouse, eagles, and bear.
The cabin was larger than expected; everything very clean and uncluttered. Cabin sits very close to the lake which is extremely handy. Louie's Landing was a couple minutes' drive with a convenient boat landing. Lake is big; while popular with guides for fishing many varieties, we had no luck on our own despite a lot of effort. 1/2 day with a guide might be well worthwhile. One tiny walleye was caught from the dock. Property is overall very kid friendly, the only small negative for us was no sandy area in shallow water for toddlers to play - mostly rocks until you get out closer to the end of the dock. It was an enjoyable, quiet, nice place to rent for vacation. Our Lab had a blast - lots of yard space for him :-) Thanks for allowing pets!
We were surprised at how homey the cabin was. We liked that it was right next to the road. We brought our dog and had room to walk him. We had campfires in front of the lake at night. Some contractors came and put a new ceiling in the spare room one day, which was fine because we were usually out during the day. We went to Copper Falls and hiked one day, which was amazing. All in all, we had a very peaceful and enjoyable week. Thanks for the great place.
