About Laurie Eckrod
We bought Holland Point Preserve in 2011 from a former Washington Redskin and his wife who built the house in 1990. My husband is a avid hunter and fisherman and wanted land that he could hunt and fish but also allow the non-hunters in the family to enjoy the Eastern Shore. We also wanted a property that was close to our home in Virginia. Being only 2 hours from DC, this property had everything we wanted and more.
Laurie Eckrod purchased this Lodge in 2011
Why Laurie Eckrod chose Taylors Island
We bought this property after looking at many others because HPP has everything. The house was sold completely furnished so all we had to do was bring some groceries and clothes and we were set. The spectacular sunrises, that we can view from the Master Bedroom, the sound of wildlife serenading us to sleep and the abundance of privacy were also factors in our decision to purchase 'this' property. We couldn't have been more happier in our choice.
What makes this Lodge unique
Because the house sits at the end of Hooper's Neck road on 263 acres, there is nothing that can disturb you. We have endless amounts of land that can be explored, wonderful water activities to enjoy or you can just curl up around a roaring fire and hang with friends and family. Everything that is needed to 'stay put' is in the house or can be found within a few miles.

The ultimate retreat on the water
Wow. There is nothing else to say about this place except WOW. We were lucky enough to celebrate my brother's bachelor party here with friends. Fished, crabbed, golfed and just spent time on the beautiful, sprawling property. Could have easily spent a week here exploring and relaxing.
Perfectly set up with everything you need for a larger group. We had a fantastic time! Thank you Laurie, hope to be back one day.
Thank you so much for the awesome review. We are sorry that you didn't receive the access codes before your brother arrived and appreciated your patience. Congrats to your brother and next time bring the ladies. You are all welcomed back anytime.
All the best,
Quiet, peaceful, great place to gather friends/family
Our son was getting married on Taylors Island and we needed a place for our extended family to stay. While overall it was a wonderful property, we were disappointed that we could not utilize the "Crows Nest" at all because the windows don't open and the air conditioning was not working up there. There were also some other issues with things not quite working properly, and when notified we were told that those were going to be fixed when the owners were there over the 4th of July. As a vacation rental owner myself, I would have fixed them prior to people staying on the property.
Beth and Steve,
We apologize for any problems that you encountered while staying at Holland Point. We strive to correct any issues immediately but sometimes with the remoteness of our property, lack of information from prior quests about issues and quick turnovers, issues can go unaddressed. We appreciate the feedback and will do our best to make any stay better. We hope that you enjoyed the property otherwise and that it was suitable for the rehearsal dinner. All the best to your son and his new wife.
Fabulous house and property!
Beautiful, unique house! Wonderful location to get away from it all and spend time with family. Really well stocked, spotless, and comfortable. Fabulous piece of property. Great communication with the owner. We had big family gathering there and everyone had a great time. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the awesome review and for your patience regarding the payment situation. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Holland Point and hope to see you back again real soon. Happy Holidays!
Perfect Eastern Shore Serenity!
This was our second return to this beautiful place. Perfect serenity from your workaday life. I love how this white house with it's unique tower sits alone when driving down the dirt road. It's the first thing you see when you make your turn along this road. Beautiful house with water to kayak and open land to hike and explore on. The house is more than large enough for a family and the rustic interior is magnificent. Wonderfully secluded but not too far from town for groceries, restaurants, or cinema. Has everything we look for in rentals, seclusion but not too far from town, plenty of land to hike and explore, sits by the water with access to kayaks, direct or satelite TV, internet service. All good and definitely well recommended.
Thank you so much for returning to Holland Point and for the awesome review. We enjoy having returning guests because we know they will treat our home like their own. We are so happy that you had a great time and look forward to return next year. Happy Holidays.

All the best,
Located at the end of the road in perfectly peaceful Taylor's Island. The tidal marshes of Taylor's Island have been relatively untouched by the development of small towns and villages on the nearby shores. Holland Point Preserve's 200+ acres is a classic illustration of Chesapeake Bay tidal marsh habitat, overlooking the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay, Slaughter Creek and the Little Choptank River. Holland Point lodging is a marvel of architectural beauty with wide hearth pine floors, incredible exposed beams and views from every room. Originally owned by the founder of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, Holland Point affords those vacationers enamored with the outdoors immediate access to the Blackwater Refuge, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, oyster picking and swimming off of the sandy shores are right out your screened porch. The water depth at the private dock is 3' or less at low tide so kayaks, canoes and jetskis are your best bet. Enjoy the screen porch as well as the open floor plan. In the off seasons a roaring wood fire in the great room, dinner roasting in the kitchen and a good book are all you need for a complete day. It’s the perfect place to host your friends, family, or corporate retreats. Holland Point Preserve is a 'stay put and enjoy' type of vacation. Holland Point is designed to assist guests in forgetting there is another world of crowded beaches, boardwalks and hotels. For once, treat yourself to a vacation that you don't need a vacation from.
