We are the Thomas Family...Bob and Vicki Thomas, along with 2 daughters. We live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We have always dreamed of owning a second home near water, a place where we can escape from our busy lives back in Texas, and R-E-L-A-X!!!
We fell in love with the Emerald Coast of Florida with its beautiful white, sugary sand beaches and clear, refreshing waters plus the nearby lakes. We could not have asked for more. We are very fortunate and blessed to have found our 2nd home in Carillon.
We are very excited about building lasting family memories and to be able to share our beach home with others. We hope that you will be able to build your own lasting memories with your family and friends too.

After staying at different locations and visiting several communities along Scenic Highway 30-A , we discovered Carillon. We love the casual, costal living of what we now call 'A Glimpse of Heaven'. It is the perfect size for us and our extended family and friends, with a convenient downstairs 1st floor bedroom and bath for our parents, numerous porches providing additional space to spread out, where we can hear the waves and experience an awesome view of the beach without actually being beachfront property.
The charming feel of the community including the Beach Club Pool that overlooks Carillon's private beach along the Gulf of Mexico. Plus there are 2 additional pools, a gated entrance providing safe, secure and quiet streets where you and the kids can ride bikes, golf carts and play outside (unlike Seaside, Watercolor, Rosemary, or Seacrest).
The location of 'A Glimpse of Heaven' is a short distance (less than 50 steps) to the nearest dune walkover. The beach is QUIET, not to mention beautiful! Nearby Carillon Lake and Powell Lake offers freshwater fishing, paddle boards, boating or skiing. It is more than we could have asked for!
All the homes in Carillon include features like shaded porches that capture the gulf breezes and high-ceilings that create airy rooms full of light. Each home is custom designed by an approved, licensed architect and constructed by an approved, licensed builder. Even though the overall character of the community has been maintained with strict guidelines and quality control, there are no two homes in Carillon alike.
Both homes and amenities in Carillon contribute to weaving a fine community fabric that is functional while being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is a place where family, neighbors and friends can enjoy the environment and each other, while feeling safe and having a true sense of community. In a word… it is home.
We were drawn to our house because of its comfy, casual coastal interior, perfect floor plan, proximity to a private beach consisting of approximately 104 acres and 3900 feet of white, sugary sand bordering the Gulf of Mexico.
Lloyd Vogt, a renowned architect from New Orleans, was engaged to develop our town plan. Lloyds love of historical preservation coupled with his knowledge of traditional urbanism formed the look and feel of what Carillon is today. He knew the plan needed to recognize that a community beside the seashore has different requirements from a typical town layout. It was important that the towns arrangement make the beach accessible both physically and visually. The features and their placement emphasized a sense of community, and were planned to encourage pedestrian, bike, and cart traffic.
Besides the gulf, the plan was designed around two important aspects of Carillon; one natural element and one man made.
● Totally within Carillon is Lake Carillon, a 13 acre fresh water lake. The lake is brimming with local flora and fauna including lily pads, bass, and turtles, as well as an important stopping-off point for migrating ducks and other birds.
● The Carillon bell tower is the center of our community, and all of the roads in Carillon lead to bell tower circle. The bell tower contains 35 bells, and it chimes on the hour during the day; reminiscent of village bells that once rang to announce important local events.
It was important that all homes within Carillon be unique, but also share a similar nature that would become the Carillon style. Along with the masterplan for the community, Lloyd Vogt also developed the architectural guidelines for home design and construction.
First off let me say the beach - water and sand were amazing. So much sand and all white. The water has great color there. Also, the beach is very deep so there is plenty of space and being private, makes it even better. The house is wonderful too. We were very comfortable there. One thing I had not read in other reviews is the neighborhood. It's completed gated and we felt so safe there. I think for families this is an added benefit.
This was the first time we have rented VRBO and it was a wonderful experience. Vicki was very responsive to any questions we had and it was a very simple process to reserve this property, arrive at this property, and to leave this property. Although we didn't want to leave!! The area of Carillon is close to everything you would want, dining, shopping, movies, yet it is exclusive and you feel as you are away from it when at the house. It is a wonderful community for walking, biking or just sitting by the pool. We loved the area and the house was beautiful. The home was also very comfortable and the location was fabulous! We are grateful for the opportunity to stay there and enjoy the ocean!! The name of the home is so appropriate too. It really does provide a "Glimpse of Heaven."
We absolutely loved our stay at A Glimpse of Heaven for Labor Day week! Even though Hurricane Hermine washed us out a few days, we still enjoyed sitting outside on the covered front porches during the rain. This home was more than accommodating for 6 of us...4 adults and 2 young children. The main level bedroom was perfect for my father-in-law who cannot travel up and down many stairs, and the master bedroom was fabulous with the covered porch. Our kids loved the third floor bedroom( it was a little too warm for me ;), but the cupola was so neat with the panoramic windows. The home furnishings were comfortable and beautiful. The location is perfect...one house over from the crosswalk to the beach and a block from the beach pool. It was stocked with all the kitchen ware you could need, and loved the beach-themed bath and body works soaps in the baths. If you have never stayed at Carillon, you need to! The beach is gorgeous and not crowded like some others. We were all sad to leave and will definitely keep A Glimpse of Heaven on our favorite beach house list!!
We really loved the gated community and the beautiful houses. The community was harmonious without being homogeneous, with some houses being very grand and others understated but luxurious. This one was off of the beach 1 block but due to a break in the beach side houses, we could see the gulf from the master bedroom balcony. The house was beautiful and everything was in good repair. The house has great natural light, in all areas, and has a nice family area on the first floor. The offset nature of the master bedroom allowed me the chance to get away from the kids and grandkids when I wanted to read or sleep. The top 3rd level was a favorite of the kids. The kitchen is good, and we did a lot of cooking at "home". The store is close which is nice....when we have stayed elsewhere in PCB going to the store was a 2 hour ordeal.
The community is very pedestrian friendly. We do a lot of walking and we were not constantly dodging cars etc. We also did not have any competition for space on the beach, since there were far fewer people than other places we have stayed. All in all, it was a great week.
Can't imagine a better place to relax!!!
Glimpse of Heaven was a great home for our family. We had 4 adults and 3 teenagers. The house was located 2 houses from the beach access steps so it was very convenient to come and go during the day. The kitchen was well supplied and we loved preparing our meals each night and being able to sit at the large dining room table together. All the balconies in the house were well furnished with chairs and small tables. We spent a lot of time outside looking across at the beautiful beach view and having special family time.
The only issue we had was with a small trailer that my son-in-law used to bring bicycles for the kids. He parked it in the back of the driveway but we were told he had to take it to a storage place because Carillon rules did not allow more than one vehicle in the driveway. Not only was this inconvenient but it created an additional expense. We understood the reason and we did receive a "Rules and Regulations" pamphlet when we arrived at the gate but it would have been nice to have known this before arriving. Suggestion to the owner to maybe put this in their VRBO add.
We highly recommend this home and we hope to return to Carillon again next year. It is a very lovely community with small shops, safe streets for the kids and lovely pools.
The primary attraction of the Panhandle of Florida is the beautiful white sandy beach. Carillon Beach is private, consisting of approximately 104 acres with over 3900 front feet of beautiful beaches.
Located in the heart of the property is Lake Carillon, a 13 acre lake, abundant with turtles, bass, migratory birds, blue herons, and an occasional eagle.
The property borders Lake Powell, the largest coastal dune lake in the state of Florida, at about 767 acres, and coveting the designation of a ‘Pristine Florida Waterway.’
The immediate area is rich with the history of sailing ships wrecked off the coast in the 1800s, of a wonderful lodge (still standing) built in the early 1900s and surrounded by Florida forests, wetlands, dune systems, pristine lakes, natural hammocks of native oak trees and unique wildlife.
Within 5-10 minutes to Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Seacrest, Seagrove, and about 20 minutes away from Seaside and Watercolor.
Pier Park Panama City Beach is a 900,000+ square foot Florida shopping center and entertainment hub located in the heart of this beachside city. Serving as the premiere Northwest Florida shopping destination, this mecca offers dining, specialty shops, attractions, events and more.
