About Cindy Livingston or Emily Pitchford
I was born and raised in Egg Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin. I attended grade school in Egg Harbor and Gibraltar H.S. in Fish Creek, and I'm a UW - Madison graduate. I run a family business, Alpine Resort and Golf Course in Egg Harbor. I have two sons and live in Sturgeon Bay. I have three sisters and parents that are all involved in the family business. I have a new puppy, a golden retriever, and he's huge and very active.
Cindy Livingston or Emily Pitchford purchased this Cottage in 1965
Why Cindy Livingston or Emily Pitchford chose Egg Harbor
Happy Hollow Guest house has been in our family for a long time. It's close to Alpine Resort and Golf and close to all the great things Egg Harbor (and Door County) has to offer. It's only available for vacations in the spring, summer and fall. My family is very protective of this house and keep it clean and well maintained. It's a special opportunity to live or to stay on the shoreline in Door County. With the peninsula being surrounded by water as Door County is, people come from many miles away to be on this shoreline, especially on the bay side of the peninsula.
What makes this Cottage unique
Happy Hollow Guest house is just across Horseshoe Bay Road from Alpine's 36-hole golf course and right on the water. It's convienently located near the Alpine and Egg Harbor beaches in one direction and Murphy Park beach in the other direction. You can see the water for the lawn area. The Village of Egg Harbor offers many great vacation activities including water sports, fantastic shopping, restaurants, free live concerts, art galleries and a new marina. Centrally located in Door County, it's easy to get to the other villages on the peninsula as well as the state parks both north and south of Egg Harbor.

run down shack
This property could be nice. It is a very pretty setting but the house needs a lot of work. The shower was barely functional.
There is not enough room to walk around the bed, very tight.
Bring chairs if you want to sit outside. Don't try making a fire in the fireplace, it filled the house with smoke.
NEVER STAY AGAIN!!!!! I’ll
Check in was fine, although they had no record of my final payment made a week earlier. Directions were good. Arrived to a warm, very musty smelling house. Everything was old a very “used”. Cobwebs in corners made me wonder how clean the place we were staying. Coffee pot the size of an overnight motel pot; minimal utensils, and pots and pans stored on the floor of a less than desirable cabinet with the water pipes. There was enough space to unpack. The bed was old and the sheets did not stay on the bed. More old evidence. We came home after dinner one evening to find NO WATER! While the lodge sent someone to fix the problem rather quickly, the incident was somewhat concerning. Even that repair person said it was because the place was old! Finally, we had water; smelly, iron water that causes discoloration and smells and tastes bad. After 2 nights, we gave up and came home! Door County is beautiful and we’ll visit again, we’ll just be more careful about our accommodation choice! I would not recommend this for anyone.
We booked this place because of the view allowing for west facing sunsets. The sunsets were great, however the home was very musty and the water was rusty (stinky) and showering in it or brushing teeth in rusty water is unpleasant. Drinking it (or cooking with it) was impossible. I'd suggest that the homeowners upgrade floors and furniture to eliminate musty smell. For this price, I expected more.
very old but clean cottage in the perfect spot
Loved the location, staff was friendly, space is clean BUT really old - musty smell. Could use fresh new multiple pillows and towels and a big coffee pot. The small bed and mattress has seen better days, a fan would be great - there is a window air conditioner and heater if you need it. Wifi.... you don't need to be online when in dc - don't believe it's offered here - go watch the sunset instead. This is part of Alpine Resort so you drive there to check in, to get to a very small pool, really old fashioned bar / restaurant. Super quiet get away in a great part of door county.
To be upfront and fair, we were unable to complete our stay due to a family emergency the evening we arrived but we will share our first impression.
During check-in, the staff was nice and informative. While renters are allowed access to resort amenities, the resort the property is associated to is a mile or so away so not convenient.
We arrived in the evening and was humid/cloudy, so was somewhat darker when we found the property, the directions given by staff were good/detailed. The rest is our first impression of the cottage/property, it may have a different appearance during the day or hotter weather:
1. It's an old property, as inferred to by description, and works for 1-2 people, as stated
2. Is located along a wooded area as well as by the lake, so many bugs
3. At entry, the cottage had an extremely musty odor which was overwhelming
4. However, the place was tidy, uncluttered
5. With the humidity, it felt very damp and even bathroom towels were limp with moisture... they might have considered running the air or furnace in advance of people checking in to reduce dampness and musty odor
6. Did not feel as well cleaned inside as expected, several cobwebs with bugs, plus many bugs in screens, ants in kitchen on floor and counter which gave a dirty feel
7. The fridge was working fine but we didn't use other appliances, cabinets were rustic with hard drawer pulls
8. a fire alarm in the bedroom seemed to be 1/2 wired, was plugged in using an extension cord
9. As for outside, we inquired before arriving about having a fire pit but were informed they are not allowed, per county regulation, yet a fire pit had been built on the beach closer to the main house
10. They provided a little fire wood for a small fire in the fireplace but we didn't have time to try the fireplace
You can tell that this was once a very beautiful residence at one time. I hope the owners can restore/ update it more (e.g. update lighting, hire a better cleaning service, improve the kitchen flooring/cabinets..)
Overall, I'm not inclined to return since we are not into "retro" style places or those that are more 'rustic' in nature. Other people may find this place the perfect vacation spot, just not our cup of tea. I gave it 2 stars because of smell, the dirty feel, and quality of the place for the price charged. I felt the pictures were somewhat deceiving.
Quaint Cabin, in woods, within stone throw of the Bay.
Quaint Cabin with a nice view of the Bay.
The main house is far enough away to provide Quiet and Privacy, yet close enough for cordial visits.
Would be a great place to rent both house and cabin for a large gathering.
Management at the lodge was friendly and helpful.
We would stay there again.
We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to your next visit.
Emily and Cindy
The house is located in an area of private summer homes in the Village of Egg Harbor. It's right off of the Alpine Golf Course and it's on a small estate with a main house and a guest house (this is the guest house). There are lots of trees on the property and the shoreline has beautiful limestones.
