About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Cottage On Private Lake Michigan Beach In Glen Arbor, Mi

Situated on the shore of lake michigan just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge, this cottage’s location couldn’t be better. At the end of lake isle and the base of sleeping bear bay, it’s close to the action in glen arbor, but far enough away for the peace and quiet you’re seeking. In addition to a front-row seat to all the beachfront fun you can handle, the surrounding area offers a huge variety of opportunities to explore & play. Hiking the sleeping bear sand dunes, biking on the newly-constructed heritage trail, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, wine tasting on leelanau and old mission peninsulas, charter fishing for salmon and steelhead, and arts & live entertainment throughout the county and in traverse city - the options are nearly endless.

This traditional lakefront cottage is set up for family gatherings. A large living room with a two-story wall of windows welcomes in the world class views of sleeping bear bay and the manitou islands. It’s furnished with a comfortable sofa and chairs and a 50” flat screen above the wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen and dining room offer plenty of seating and space to prepare big meals. And when it’s time to call it a night, each of the bedrooms is outfitted with comfy beds and flat screen tvs.

The spacious front deck has a gas grill and a variety of seating, perfect for a quiet morning coffee as the day begins, or a big family meal as you take in another postcard-perfect northern michigan sunset. From the deck it’s less than 100’ down to the beach. If you’re unfamiliar with sleeping bear bay, there are few freshwater beaches that are nicer. It offers miles of sandy shoreline to explore, beachcombing for petoskey stones, sandcastle building, or simply relaxing on a blanket with a book and letting the world’s worries slip away.

The bedrooms are arranged as follows: on the main level is the master bedroom with a king bed. There is a shared full bathroom just across the hall from the bedroom. The second level has 2 bedrooms with queen beds, and the top floor loft is furnished with 4 twin beds. (the loft is accessed through the shared 2nd floor bathroom.)

The kitchen is fully equipped with an assortment of pots & pans, dishes and silverware, a drip coffee maker, and blender, among other staples.

All linens and towels are provided and the cottage is professionally cleaned before every check-in.

There is cable tv and broadband wireless internet.

Why Peter Fisher chose Sleeping Bear Dunes

The owners bought it because of the gorgeous views, the big front deck, the open floorplan and the cozy living room. They loved that once they arrived at the lake from their home downstate, they could park the car for their entire stay. Anything they needed was only a short walk away. Boone Docks for lunch on the deck, ice cream at the Pine Cone, happy hour at Art Tavern. And any time the urge arose, a quick dip in Lake Michigan could be enjoyed at a moments notice.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Glen Arbor. We found this home randomly on

Home Away and were pleasantly surprised. The house was clean & well

maintained. The views & location were amazing. We had a wonderful

week with so much to see and do. Thanks for opening your beautiful home to us. (The only negative was it didn't have a bathtub)

Not A Good Time to Go to Glen Arbor When the Mayflies are Present

  • 2 of 5

Our family visited Glen Arbor and stayed at this cottage 5/11-5/15. First impression drive up and the entire house is covered in mayflies. We didn't have the best experience for a variety of reasons. The property manager locked the keys inside the house so no way for us to get inside. We had to keep calling him as he was out running errands and stand outside with the bugs until he called back with a solution to get inside a locked rental home.

Overall I would have expected the house to be cleaner than it was. I took photos and left sticky notes of items that were not up to what I would have expected for a home that cost my family 2,300 for 5 days when very few things were open in Glen Arbor.

When we did get inside there were no trash bags to be found. Also a broken toilet paper dispenser in the upstairs bathroom and a refrigerator that wasn't cold fridge. It takes 24 hours for a fridge to cool down so the items we placed in there were not kept cold. Upon walking around I noticed a very dirty air return vent and filthy fan blades in the living room.

After a few uses of the garbage disposal it was clear it wasn't working. I put my hand in the disposal to figure out what was wrong only to find the previous tenants had left a baby bottle nipple stuck in it.

The bug problem with the mayflies was horrible beyond horrible. I spent the majority of my time cleaning up or killing these bugs. The bugs were so awful that we couldn't sit outside without being constantly harassed by bugs. The agreement I was sent said their would be buckets provided to prevent sand from getting into the house. There was none so I had to locate a broom and constantly sweep to keep up with any sand that we brought in. On our last evening in the home the light burnt out above the sink with no replacement bulbs to be found.

I also would not recommend staying here during the so called "off-season" as many things to do were not open such as the Putt Place place which is within walking distance, many of the restaurants and quaint shops - all closed opening after our stay.

On a positive note the beds were very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The sunset's were amazing and the beach and lake very pretty.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. We're very sorry about the bugs and wish there was more we could do about them. The spring hatches are seen as a fact of life Up North, and thankfully they come and go in a matter of days. But I'll be sure to warn future guests of the potential for them. I apologize for the mix-up on the not leaving the door unlocked as I said I would. After dropping off the keys, I mistakenly locked back up simply by habit. I'm happy that we were able to get you inside within a few minutes of your call. Most of the restaurants and many shops do stay open year-round, though it's true that a few seasonal businesses don't open up until Memorial Day Weekend. As for the putt-putt, they've has some transitions in ownership in recent years so it's never a certainty. Best to call ahead if that's on your must-do list in Glen Arbor. Thank you for identifying the fan, air duct, and items on which you left the notes. We've corrected all of those. Your family were our first guests of the season, and with as many things we try to get "right" prepping the house for the rental season, it seems it's hard to be perfect. We appreciate your understanding and always try to respond immediately when guests contact us with questions or concerns during their stay. - Peter

Lovely Beach House

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I went on a fall color tour in October and stayed here for a week in October. In spite of the very chilly weather, the home was warm and inviting. The manager very responsive, the location wonderful - right on the beach but walking distance to town. The furnishings were lovely and comfortable. Very well stocked and clean. Highly recommend, especially for families with kids - great upstairs loft for little ones. Close to Sleeping Bear Dunes and the fall colors in the area were magnificent!

Quaint Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cottage is nestled at the end of a dead-end, private road with quiet, polite neighbors, and a private access to the peaceful waves of the lake. The house has ample space, both inside and out. We stayed with a five and two-year old, and the inside of the house was clean, up-to-date, and provided us with the amenities we needed - bonus that the loft was a TON of fun for sleeping and playing. The outside of the house proved to be the favorite part of the property for the children, as the private beach area is literally steps out of the back door, and just a few more steps led us to the water. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy a glass of local wine on the back deck while the kids played in the sand a few feet away, and the sun set in front of us, or have a warm fire and toasted marshmallows as the waves lapped the shore and the kids tossed rocks into the lake. The town offers a nice mix of tourist fun, and local fare. The cottage was within walking distance to all of our needs, and we only drove the car to the Sleeping Bear Dunes for a hike. Overall, the location, amenities and atmosphere are hard to beat, and we would return again, without hesitation.

Perfect Beach House

  • 5 of 5

Spectacular view of the Mantiou Islands and Sleeping Bear Point! The location is perfect with a short walk into town. House has gorgeous furnishings which appeared to be new furniture. Our family and friends made great memories watching the sunset and toasting marshmallows around the fire pit.
